It’s the big two-oh-oh! This week, we look back at the first episode we recorded and talk about where games were then and how far they — and our own feelings about them — have evolved. We also read through some early episode descriptions to see which games we were talking about in 2017 and which ones have stuck around all this time later. Thanks to everyone who has listened and supported this show over the years. We truly couldn’t do this without you. If you’re not backing us yet, head on over to our Patreon. It’s the spookems-est time of the year! We decided to take a slightly different tack for the commentary track this time, and picked 2005’s action-packed schlockfest video game adaptation Doom. Why is everything so blue? Which actor does the best job suppressing their native accent? Why don’t more movies have words like ‘nanowall’? Find the answers to these questions and more in this week’s episode! Rip and tear along with us – but make sure you’re watching the extended unrated version of the movie. I think that’s the only one currently available on home video, but that’s the one we ended up watching. If you’re not backing us yet, head on over to our Patreon. Spoiler warning! Light spoilers throughout this one – nothing too story heavy, there’s a big structural thing that The Hundred Line does that David reveals in order to talk about why it’s such a wild game, so if you want to go in completely blind, skip ahead to around 1:23:00. Spoiler warning! It’s difficult to discuss what makes Blue Prince special without talking about certain events or things that happen in the game. As a result, we do go in depth about some of the lightbulb moments we’ve discovered during our time playing, so if you’d prefer to remain unspoiled, you may want to skip ahead to around 1:09:00.
