Most people who believe this is a Biblical idea use 1 Corinthians 10:13 as a support. But Chara helps us understand that the context of this is when we are under temptation, not suffering, and the weight of life’s circumstances. The idea that God won’t allow us to go through anything we can’t bear is just not supported in Scripture. This is not a cause to lose hope, because the hope we have is greater than an easy life. Our circumstances may be more than we can handle, but they are never more than what God can handle.Verses Referenced:1 Corinthians 10:13; Psalm 121:2; Isaiah 41:10; 1 Peter 5:6-7; Exodus 34:6; Deuteronomy 31:8; Acts 7:59-60; Psalm 55:12-14; 1 John 5:3-4Chara's Articles Referenced:10 Popular Statements That Are Theologically Unsound: https://bit.ly/3Ppvuwg4 Reasons Forgiveness Is So Hard and How to Let Go of the Hurt: https://bit.ly/3pn5x5YBooks Referenced:Not God Enough by J.D GreerThe Weight of Glory by C.S. The Bible clearly says “Judge not.” But, it also says “Judge rightly.” You can make a defense for both if you pick out individual verses, so let’s explore all of them a bit more, in context, to get a better understanding of judgment. Episode 39: Putting Jeremiah 29:11 Back in ContextThis verse is plastered in walls, coffee mugs, and diaries. But without its historical and scriptural context, we miss its original intent and, thus, its meaning for us now. Don’t despair – if this verse comforts you, it still will when we’re done. A lot of upbeat, positive, motivational sayings pop up around this time of year. Today, we are going to discuss one that I appreciate for its attempts at offering hope, but bristle at its limitations. Today, let’s unpack the ideas behind “New Year, New You.”The good news is, a new you is never limited to a specific date or time of year. Christ can make anyone new, at any time. But what does it mean that we are made new in Christ, and how does that jive with the world’s idea of “new year, new you.”Article Referenced: New Year’s Resolution Statistics (Updated 2021) by Discover Healthy Habits: https://discoverhappyhabits.com/new-years-resolution-statistics/10 Steps to Help You Think through Your Goals for the New Year by Chara Donahue: https://www.ibelieve.com/slideshows/10-steps-to-help-you-think-through-your-goals-for-the-new-year.htmlVerses Referenced: 2 Corinthians 5:17; Lamentations 3:22-23; Isaiah 43:18-19; Luke 19:1-10; Philippians 2:3-4; Proverbs 3:5-6; Hebrews 12:11; Psalm 34:14Episode Image Credit: Getty/HAKINMHAN Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.
Will our troubles really be "out of sight" next Christmas? The Bible doesn't say that. We are those who live knowing that "in this world you will have trouble..." Once Christ died for all of our sins, He wiped away all sins. There are hundreds of commandments in the old testament, not just 10. They were written for the nation of Israel. God knew they could not follow them, so Christ died for those and every single sin for the gentiles and Jews too. In the bible it says it is done. We can not "Do" anything or not sin. Christ did it for us. He followed all commandments and lived a perfect life. He was then crucified, died, buried and rose from the dead. We can not "do" anything to get to heaven. Believing that Christ died for all of our sins is the only way. Following commandments, performing good deeds does not wipe away our sins. Only through Christ can we be forgiven. Only through Christ can we get to heaven.
