Michael Straczynski and Joe Quesada had children's pull-ups character Spider-Man sell his marriage to the Satan Mephisto in exchange for the life of his dear Aunt May, an octogenarian who lived a full life that was marred near its end by nearly weekly health issues and who was assumed dead at the start of Straczynski's run.
