If only Jim could be like Matt Damon, because then he could be himself. Unpacking Jim's fear of the scrabble pieces. It's weird. Mamas and toddlers and being 47...the throughline is striking. Is all the biohacking showing us something about mortality avoidance? Mama birds' regurgitation feeding isn't just for the birds. Chat GPT as a therapist? No. Be forever young? How about.... forever individuating - will we be forever individuating - do you really want to individuate forever - forever and ever? (A play on lyrics to 'Forever Young")
This is a episode of spoilers. Jim and his wife read "The History of Sound" by Ben Shattuck, and they discuss their reactions and reflections on the book, so be prepared for spoilers. They also discuss the most recent Knives Out movie, "Wake Up Dead Man" and that discussion is also full of spoilers. What does, 'okay, Internet' mean and why it should be a movement. And finally, in an unexpected turn of events, Jim is developing a personal relationship with his co-pilot ChatGPT that is uncorking his repressed anger. Enjoy this real time exploratory conversation of playful banter and emerging insights.
Welcome to Nah Fam's last episode of 2025. It's a good one. Jim and his wife explore what has been meaningful and personal to them throughout the year... and what can't be said. They find themselves in a time of transition, 'crisis', reflection, grief and of course...growth. ChatGPT compared Jim's wife's life journey to that of Frodo Baggins. Why? How? This appears to gross out Jim. While the two have not spent much time on this platform recently they hope to change that going forward and will be coming around here more frequently in 2026. Woohoo and Happy New Year!
Join us as we discuss our various concert experiences over the last several months with many of our favorite artists including but not limited to; Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, DMB, The Lumineers, Mt Joy, and MUMFORD AND SONS! We also recap Jim's recent marathon completion and a brief but beautiful trip to Mexico. Enjoy!
Summer is winding down and we find ourselves in that in between space-caught between the freedom of summer and the structure of autumn. In today's episode, Jim sits down with his wife to catch up on life. He's been pushing through the season's most intense heat in preparation for his upcoming marathon, while she continues to dive more deeply into esoteric interests and admittedly, a moderate TikTok obsession. Together they trade reflections, observations and laughs in a conversation that wanders all over nowhere. Enjoy!
Episode 120 - Turn The Page

Episode 120 - Turn The Page

2025-05-2301:17:09

Jim and his wife sit down to record for the first time in months to talk about the recent passing of their dog, marathon training, Aruba, family, their relationship and acceptance of reality. Enjoy!
This episode was recorded two weeks ago. Jim and his wife talk 10 year wedding anniversary, new hobbies, that podcast called The Telepathy Tapes, whether or not Jim is brained washed, his wife's ever evolving journey inward, Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni ... and so much more.
Welcome to the end of the year. In today's episode Jim and his wife talk about what has been going on for them in recent days as well as the thing about a nightstand, a full cup of water and an iPad...The kids have been home for the holidays! Drones and Hollywood and local comedy club shows. Jim talks about what went well for him this year and how he takes the lead at home. And finally, have you seen the movie, Past Lives? We REALLY liked it. Don't listen to us talk about it if you do not want to hear any spoilers. Also, spoiler; Jim's wife gets teary as she reflects on what the movie awoke in her as it relates to her most recent realizations, ever-going healing and life lessons. It's good stuff. Enjoy.
Hello and we are back coming at you with so many updates as life keeps on keeping on. Jim and his wife have been learning so many interesting things about themselves and most of this episode is a conversation about those things... Enjoy.
Jim and his wife are talking about the current headlines in their little world today. Enjoy.
Hello! Today we are reporting on Jim's "obsession" with Noah Kahan and the news that most captures his attention... and why? We connect over our reflections on our ever-evolving family. Jim's wife is realizing that she is experiencing a rebirth, in a way.... We dialogue some about psychoanalysis school, how parenting with only one at home has Jim's wife feeling so chill much of the time, but could someone please do something about the weekly school emails situation?! My gawd.
Eleven years together. Our most recent realizations about ourselves come from the kids moving out. Leaning in or letting go with what we fear? People pleasing parent or possessive parent? You're probably leaning in the direction of one or the other. Repeating history, the idea of intergenerational trauma and how most of us are dealing with it in some capacity. Where does it show up for us? The royal road to awareness, Jim offers his personal thoughts on the emerging field of psychedelics in mental health.
This episode is far and wide reaching in topics... Jim's puzzling communication, aging parents, aging kids, weird times. The move to a new home that still does not feel like home even though you know eventually it will era. A reflection on parenting and owning controlling behavior blind spots and the consequences of owning such behavior. Individuation. Individuation. Individuation. Also, landlines, Sears. Gen Z: from Youtubers to retail.
It has been a bit chaotic over here for the past couple of weeks. We sat down a few days ago to record but we were interrupted in the middle of our conversation. We had planned to return to recording but then we didn't. However, we wanted to share what we have of a discussion over our experience related to moving two of the kids into college and how it's been for us in the days following. This episode does end abruptly and there isn't a closing of any sort. We apologize. Maybe you'll get something from our discussion or maybe you won't! Happy back to school season!
The Childish Gambino concert was out of this word. We watched St Elmo's fire the other day and by the end we were hysterically crying. Literally. Jim's wife had a timely, and moving epiphany this week as it relates to our family, and it left her full of gratitude, and love. Nathan has a very good-looking dad. Clothes; old and new and donated.
A recap of our travels to the unsalted coast last week. How we did with changing a tire on the expressway. What to do about lettuce in toilets. We like social districts and quaint Lake MI towns and when they’re together, its the bee's knees. Can we please just have one episode where we don't talk about the boys' upcoming move to college?! Spoiler; no, at least not for now because it's making our life a little weird right now and we still need to talk about it. Jim admits he is possibly experiencing midlife boredom approaching and is beginning to contemplate what to do about it. Enjoy!
This week our nostalgia tour took us to the meeting place of our adult self with our child self and it was weird. Today we are taking another trip down memory lane and revisiting some of our childhood favorites as some long-lost core memories resurface. Our memories include but are not limited to; Romancing The Stone, American Tail, Hostess treats, newspaper routes, babysitting, Pogo Balls, our favorite cereals, Nintendo cereal, French salad dressing, and flying kites.
We've been biking a lot lately. Jim is asked how he'd like to be at the end of his life. Dissecting the intersection (is there one?) of eastern and western thought...integration and transcendence. What are the motivations and actions of our respective enemies? On the flip side, what is it about us that can invoke an enemy? Jim's wife builds a case for how truth and peace can happen simultaneously. What might motivate manipulation? What a recent dream told Jim's wife about what she needs to know/feel/remember (over and over again) so that she remains fully living this one and precious life.
Jim and his wife just returned from a trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula. In true UP fashion, it was a trip full of picturesque landscapes, okay food and a couple of magical experiences. We are getting ever so closer to losing 75% of our children to 'adulthood.' We are not going to talk about politics...until we do.
Jim is recapping his wife's romantic gestures as of late, and the current canine scene in the house. Then, Jim talks about his relationship with the word 'awesome' and the underlying force which drives its overuse in his vocabulary. Jim tells us what his coach says about his wife and finally, 'still face." It's all good stuff.
