When Stacey Simms’ son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes she turned to podcasts to learn more. But when she couldn’t find what she was looking for her husband suggested she create her own show.  Nine years on and Diabetes Connections has more than 600 episodes. Stacey is also the host of Diabetes Connections Type 2, as well as the author of The World’s Worst Diabetes Mom and its sequel Still The World’s Worst Diabetes Mom. I connected with Stacey over on Threads and in this conversation you’re going to hear what she would do differently if she were launching a podcast today, how she has successfully monetised her show and how she has connected with her listeners off air.  I’m Alison Fraser, host of Women Who Podcast, the show for side-hustling women who are ambitious but time-limited. What if no one listens. What if my friends turn against me? What if, what if, what if.  As a podcaster I’ve had these thoughts, and I’d bet that you have probably had something similar. My guest today is Becca Ingersoll, she is the host of Finding Joy Through Life’s Trials, a podcast which she describes as a safe place for us to share our stories. She had those what if thoughts too, but you’re going to hear what Becca did to push past these and to get her podcast off paper and into our ears. We’re going to talk about being brave and sharing scary parts of life, about taking the leap when your head is full of what ifs and about Becca’s reading retreat. Becca is a former high school English teacher, a stay-at-home mum to twins who were born prematurely, one of whom then underwent treatment for leukaemia, and she’s also a keen crafter and reader. Hey podcasters, what would you do differently if you were starting all over again? This is the topic of this week’s show. I’m going to go through what I would do differently, what I would keep the same and share what other podcasters would do. I asked in my free facebook group what other podcasters would have done differently. Thanks to Penny Fitzgerald from Penny For Your Shots and Mare, co-host of Connection Project 360, for contributing. So dear listener, if you already have a podcast, what would you do differently? You can join the conversation in my free facebook group, Women Who Podcast or you can email me at alison@alisonfraser.co. One of the best things I did last year was fly from New Zealand all the way over to Perth in Western Australia for a podcast listener meetup. I’d met just a couple of other people who I knew would be there, but everyone else would be a new connection - including the people I was sharing an air bnb with. Was I worried? Not at all, in fact I was so excited to be meeting people who had the same interest as me. That trip, and the people I met, will stick with me for as long as I live.  My guest today is Carla Ward, she is the host of the Everything ECE podcast and in this episode we’re going to talk about building a community off the air. Welcome back to another episode of Women Who Podcast. This is the podcast for side hustling women who were time limited, but ambitious, and who wants to have some podcasting in their life, whether that's guesting or as I like to promote, having your own podcast. This episode is a little different to the others. You're going to hear a call that was held between myself and three of my other podcasting friends. We get together every week in an accountability group. Every Thursday morning or my time we meet. And we thought it would be fun to record a podcast about each of us asking a question that kind of relates to our own podcast. You can get to hear the kinds of people who have a podcast. And if you haven't yet dipped your toe into podcasting yet, give you the courage and inspiration to do so. You might find another podcast that you would like to listen to. This episode features Robin Hackney host of Spandex & Wine. Penny Fitzgerald, host of Penny For Your Shots, and Becca Ingersoll, the host of Finding Joy Through Life's Trials. Links to shows: Spandex & Wine Penny For Your Shots Finding Joy Through Life's Trials Are you letting your mind monkeys get in the way of starting your podcast? Are you paralyzed by over analysis of all the steps you could be taking when there is an easier path for you? Are you stuck, but need someone to give you a gentle nudge to take action? I'm trialing a podcast accountability group because I have experienced for myself what you can achieve when you have others alongside you in the same situation.  It's going to be small, so as not to overwhelm you. We'll meet weekly for a month, starting the week of April 8th to get you some wins. And as my time zones going to be changing soon. I'm going to try to make it work for everyone who wants it. This will be at a special beta price of $50. To secure your seat send an email to alison@alisonfraser.co
Over the past few episodes we’ve covered topics such as how to repurpose content and how to squeeze your podcast into your jam packed calendar. In this episode you’re going to hear more about batching, the art of being efficient with the time you have. My guest in this episode is Lisa Zawrotny, host of Positively Living: Do Less, Live More... Breathe Easier. Lisa lives and breathes productivity, but she does it in a way that’s less hustle and more flow. You’re going to learn what the purpose of batching is, whether it’s something that may help you or not, plus what other things you can batch to make you feel like you can breathe easier. I’m Alison Fraser, host of Women Who Podcast, the show for side-hustling women who are ambitious but time-limited. Maybe you’ve already added your podcast to the mix, or you’re thinking about giving it a go, but you already so many other things going on in your life. How do you make sure none of these plates fall? I bet if you asked your non-podcasting friends all they think you do is record and publish. By now you’ve probably realised there’s a bit more to it than that. I find this bit a piece of cake, the recording is the fun part, I enjoy the editing process and getting my podcast out into the world. But what I have found difficult was all the rest. The emails, social media, blog, all the other bits that help your content get seen and found by ideal listeners. And then I got chatting to Emily Aborn, host of Content With Character and She Built This. I asked Emily to come on to help us with repurposing our content so that it doesn’t take a million brain cells and can be done reasonably quickly. You’re going to hear a lot of suggestions, don’t worry about taking notes as they will be in my extended shownotes. Friends, I have so many great things to say about my guest in this episode that I had such trouble choosing just one thing to pick out for the title. Joining me for a chat about all things podcasting is Audra Bartlett, host of The Wild Visionary podcast. If you’ve never heard her before I promise you that by the end of this you will be subscribed to her show and cu-ing up her episodes for a podcast binge session. Audra and I met in a podcasting course, her energy is pure electric, she radiates such wisdom and I knew she would be able to help other women podcasters get unstuck. She’s a jedi at problem solving and after our conversation I took action on something that had me procrastinating. We talk about checking your podcast’s metrics, asking for help from the get-go, finding podcasts that help you move forward and so much more.
