Welcome to our first dry witter of 2024, we have on the programme great friend of the show, the irrepressible Mickey O'Brien, broadcaster, musician and lovely person. Mickey hasn't drunk for a couple of years after a self hypnosis session in Lockdown and is blooming quite obviously. Here are some links and words from MickeyAs I said, for me, I need to know why something works and because I proved to myself - totally unexpectedly - that it does, I had to work out what was going on under the bonnet for me to have responded so effectively. Here are the links I wanted to share with you!:1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OP9byfvQoLs - Dan Jones Hypnotherapist (Ericksonian Hypnotherapy - Sir Milton Erickson)2. https://www.hypnotherapy-directory.org.uk/memberarticles/the-meaning-of-ericksonian-hypnosis-and-how-it-differs-from-traditional-met - this explains more about the method of clinical self-hypnosis that worked for me. It reiterates why it worked when I talked about the choice of images I put into the TV screens that the YouTube script was asking me to do - were personal and related to my fears and hopes only.Ericksonian hypnosis is a modern hypnotic method which taps into the potentials of the subconscious mind through a rather subtle, respectful and personalised method which usually involves the use of such tools as body language, stories, metaphors and other hypnotic techniques that are tailored to improve the condition of patients.3. https://www.udemy.com/user/danieljones11/ - The person who did the YouTube video has his own course online, so I bought it (for about £15) to help me understand the science about why and how hypnotherapy worked for me:"Different types of therapy on its own and then looking at people that have had those different types of therapy but had hypnosis with those therapies, have found that the therapy is more effective because they've had the hypnosis as well. And the reason behind that is that hypnosis is accessing the optimal learning state. It's accessing the part of the brain that updates patterns in your brain. So when you learn something new, what happens is you update the pattern for whatever that is. So when you're learning a language, whether it's at birth and growing up as a toddler and learning your native language or whether it's learning a language in school when new words stick. What's happened is the patterns in your brain, so the neurons in your brain have wired in such a way that makes it so that now there's the connections to make it.So this is a new pattern. So it could be that you're saying a word wrong until that point. And then all of a sudden you start saying the word right. Everyone reaffirms that tells you, yes, that's how it's supposed to be said.So your brain updates and says, right, we'll keep it at this point, this is how this is supposed to be.With psychological problems, if someone has a problem, whether it's depression, anxiety, a phobia, an addiction, whatever it is; the whole time they're going to therapy, hopefully it's working on the patterns and trying to alter the way they think or relate to whatever that problem is.But once change actually happens, what has happened for that change to be lasting is that the patterns have updated and there was some research done on looking at.Jennifer O'Donnell and Carlotta Allum witter on about trying not drink, with special guests

We are so chuffed to introduce our season finale with Mitch Winehouse, father of the late, great Amy Winehouse. Carlotta loses her cool a bit, but the general themse is can the community contribute to recovery and what advice to parents for their children.Jennifer O'Donnell and Carlotta Allum witter on about trying not drink, with special guests
Hello and welcome to the 5th instalment of out mini-series of TTB where we cover all sorts of issues that are relevant to scatty birds age, and maybe other too! No more so that DIET! we must have, between us, tried every diet under the sun and know deep down its not healthy - and the relationship between weight gain and alcohol is, we thought, nailed on! BUT not according to our special guest Sandra Roycroft-Davies. Her hugely successful Thinking  Slimmer for Weight Loss programme encourages retraining your brain for as little time as 9 minutes a day. This power of suggestive thought works for alcohol too, I'm totally sold!!  where do I sign? All the usual banter and some stupid diet from the 70's :)🎙 Join us on Sober Podcast UK as we navigate the journey of sobriety in today'sworld. Can barely believe it, we've come this far, episode 14 of utter twittering twoddle!! No its been such an amazing journey and we have met so many interesting people - the quality of guests has been outstanding and this week Brandon Block does not disappoint - we are ex-ravers from this generation, to paraphrase Brandon, we all need to just grow up (ha ha) but amazing and inspirational work. Thanks you everyone, we hear from Andrew my husband and other listeners, and Jenn and I have been on our own amazing journey of friendship also - this isn't the end, beautiful friend, but the beginning ! Watch this space -Thanks for music  (Im going to cry)https://brandonblock.com/Jennifer O'Donnell and Carlotta Allum witter on about trying not drink, with special guests
Happy Friday everyone its time for the Two Trying Birds podcast once again, the weeks are flying by! We cant believe that this is our penultimate episode this season - there is so much to say still - the journey will continue ! Big thank you to everyone who has listened and all the feedback. We have met so many great people, like this weeks guest Mark Dempster - a Harley Street Counsellor who came from a world of crime and misadventure, such an inspiring story, again, but more interesting how he is now a world re-known drugs recovery coach - when do we need help?  when are we addicts? is there a middle way?  all the usual questions!!  - definitely one to come back to!http://markdempstercounselling.com/ http://markdempstercounselling.com/product/the-ongoing-path-a-guide-to-stopping-addictive-behavior-and-fulfilling-ambition/https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nothing-Declare-Confessions-Unsuccessful-Smuggler/dp/0957430507@reframe Jennifer O'Donnell and Carlotta Allum witter on about trying not drink, with special guests
Welcome episode 12 of Two Trying Birds - we have called this the resilience one as its all about bouncing back. Slight trigger warning as Carlotta has a bit of breakdown at the beginning, when she 'confesses' to Jennifer about a slip - but it's a moment in time that is now passed, a doom spiral, and how we recover is important !! Our guest is the super inspiring Micheal Josephson who has such an incredible story to tell of resilience and recovery, his story is posted below but he has raised millions for children's charities and overcome using drink as a prop in his darkest dayshttps://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5700181/Cheshire-sex-abuse-survivor-42-turned-life-run-3m-year-firm-suicide-attempt.htmlhttps://stocksmcr.com@michaeljosephson1 Jennifer O'Donnell and Carlotta Allum witter on about trying not drink, with special guests
We are really excited to bring you this weeks podcast, all about motivation and determination and core values. We interview Scotty Mills who has done a million and one amazing things being a special forces elite commander. You wouldn't think there was much cross over with South London mums of a certain age, but there is so much to take from his philosophy - He talks about his book Never Give In and how his techniques can be used to support from young children to national football teams !We are going to be setting some goals and thinking about the shape of the podcast and how and where it is going -@scotty_mills07https://www.amazon.co.uk/Never-Give-Commando-Rules-Life/dp/1398508446 Jennifer O'Donnell and Carlotta Allum witter on about trying not drink, with special guests
Hello all, so this week we continue our discussion around parenting and parents on the piss (ha). We have taken the brave step of inviting our eldest daughters on, to tell us about their memories of alcohol growing up and how that may or may not have affected their habits today - hoping they don't make us cringe too much! Lovely to see their faces and I think they already have healthier habits than we do -Jennifer O'Donnell and Carlotta Allum witter on about trying not drink, with special guests
Welcome everybody to the latest rambling from the TwoTrying Birds. So much to say about this topic, we are delivering in two parts! We take a quick look back to our adult lives as drinkers and think about the relationship with alcohol over all those years. We talk to Anna Butler about her story, she is @mysobermum on instagram and has an inspiring story to tell. Things and people mentioned@soberdaveThe Body Keeps the Score      by Bessel van der KolkJennifer O'Donnell and Carlotta Allum witter on about trying not drink, with special guests
Hello everyone, thank F it's Friday?? or OH NO it's Friday?  so its time for our latest podcast. We think this is a particularly contentious and perhaps divisive subject, whether or not we can have the occasional drink and drink moderately. Jury is still out really. We chat to Tim Ayris about his journey and finding a way to moderate. Tim also extols the virtues of the sober raving and how it reignited his love for dancing and going out. Its a very interesting discussion! sprinkled with the usual silliness ...https://metro.co.uk/2021/12/24/i-leave-feeling-euphoric-meet-the-people-who-love-to-sober-rave-15809129/https://www.theguardian.com/books/2022/oct/31/in-brief-the-good-drinker-the-blue-flames-exit-stage-left-reviews@houseofhappiness@morninggloryville@riseandshine@ravewithflourish@discosforgrownupsJennifer O'Donnell and Carlotta Allum witter on about trying not drink, with special guests
Happy Friday everyone, here we are with our latest instalment of chat and hopefully inspiration to rethink your relationship with alcohol. Jokes and banter but also serious thinking about pleasure and happiness and how we reach these states. Lots of chat about cold water swimming, definitely an emerging theme. Our guest is Hugh Wahla, former MD at Urban Outfitters Europe and CEO at The Conran Shop and now a life coach (details below) and his story. Sprinkled with the usual sillinesshttps://hughwahla.com/  http://www.dunehypnotherapy.co.uk/Jennifer O'Donnell and Carlotta Allum witter on about trying not drink, with special guests
The latest instalment from the twittering birds as we cruise into February. In this weeks episode we cover all sorts of subjects but a lot about moving to the seaside - we talk to the lovely Ronnie Traynor who used to be an enfant-terrible of the music industry and her path to loudly sober, all singing, all dancing and swimming in the sea everyday https://pathretreats.com/the-path-of-love-retreat/https://www.netflix.com/gb/title/80229847  HOW TO CHANGE YOUR MIND@sosobersosocial Jennifer O'Donnell and Carlotta Allum witter on about trying not drink, with special guests
