I don't care how you feel about single moms and how/why they're in the situation they're in; raising their children on their own--THEY NEED HELP! This episode hits home for me because I WAS that single mom who needed help while I was doing all that I could to get out of the rut I'd found myself in. I wasn't lazy, I wasn't irresponsible, I wasn't looking for a handout, I was simply trying to pull myself up. I needed a little support along the way, until I could fly on my own. Without caring, generous people in my life along the way, I wouldn't be where I am today. I'm better in my 50, in midlife, because people cared about me. They wanted to see me on the other side of where I was. With skyrocketing inflation and the rate of pay not increasing along with it, it is extremely difficult for a single mom to thrive. There are single moms all around us who WANT better for themselves and their children. They are TRYING! They are showing up for work, working on building their professional skills, and doing what they can with the time and energy they have to rise above the poverty line. But while they're doing all of this, they could use a little (or a LOT) of support. Tap in and listen to some ways in which you can support a deserving single mom today. And please let me know your thoughts after you've listened. I can't wait to hear from you! HAVE YOU "FOLLOWED" The bRight Side of 50, with Carla Palmer? Turned on notification? One thing I can say about being on this earth nearly 52 years is that my story is colorful! Colorful with a lot of beautiful hues but also darker shades of black and brown. About 12 episodes back, I shared a story about my senior prom and why I went to prom with my older brother. It's pretty good, you should check it out! At the end of that story, I talked about how I ended up in Los Angeles. I didn't go too far into detail about my experience working at California Federal Bank and the terrifying robberies I experienced as a teller, but I promised to come back and share more...well, here is the rest of the story. #truecrime My TRUE CRIME! Welcome back, sis, to another heartfelt GYSBtalks episode. Today's episode is titled "No More All About Me Friends." Time is a precious commodity, isn't it? When we choose to spend it with someone, it's a testament to how much we value and care for that person. But what happens when those encounters leave us feeling drained and unloved, when it becomes a one-sided exchange? It's disheartening when a friendship turns into a convenience for one person and a draining experience for the other. As a woman in midlife, I've experienced the ebb and flow of friendships throughout my life. And I'm happy to share that most of my adult friendships have stood the test of time; solid pillars of support. Probably because I've been selective about who I allow into the intimate circle of my life. But there are a couple with whom I haven't much more time to give. So, I'm asking you, sis, have you experienced this too? How did it make you feel? And what did you decide to do about it? Would you agree that true friendships are built on mutual support, love, and understanding? I believe this is an essential topic to discuss openly, which is why I wanted to share it with all of you today. Understanding our worth and learning to choose authentic connections is crucial for our happiness and growth. If you've been through this journey or are currently experiencing it, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Please share your perspectives with me in the Q&A section below, on IG @gysbmovement or through email gysbmovement@gmail.com. Let's discuss the beauty and challenges of friendships. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thebrightsideof50/support
