AOECS - Gluten Free Alliance podcast
Description
Welcome to the Association of Coeliac Societies (AOECS) podcast. Here we present news, interesting facts and interviews on everything that concerns coeliac disease.
Celiac disease is a condition where your immune system will attack and damage parts of your own body if food containing gluten, such as bread, pasta and cakes, is eaten. The only known treatment for this condition is a strict gluten-free diet. If celiac disease remains undiagnosed, vital nutrients can no longer be absorbed by the body. This can result in symptoms ranging from minor discomfort to life-threatening conditions like severe anemia. Approximately 1-2 percent of the global population suffers from this stealth disease.
The Association of European Coeliac Societies (AOECS) is an independent, non-profit organization representing people affected by celiac disease or dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) across Europe and beyond. AOECS is an umbrella organization of European national coeliac societies, aiming to represent our enrolled national member societies on an international stage. We’re involved in several international initiatives to raise awareness of celiac disease and encourage vital research into its diagnosis and management.
