In this episode, Damo concludes season 4 of the Scholar Sage Podcast with a look at the various types of student and stages in a students development as they engage with traditional, lineage-based systems of inner development. These stages are: The seeker, the student and the initiate.
In this episode, Damo Mitchell is talking about his stance on the current world situation and what he sees as the bigger problem - the polarisation of communities and society. He looks at the root of fear behind peoples behaviour and the lack of kindness that is being shown by many.
In this episode, Damo Mitchell is discussing common troublesome points for beginners in Qigong such as Laogong and Yongquan. He is also looking at the nature of what it means to open a point, both physically and energetically. The nature of posture and relaxation is discussed as well as the idea that a students posture should work its way towards correct rather than seeking to be perfectly correct right from the beginning.
In this episode, Damo looks at the symbolism of Guan Yin and how she may be seen as a symbol for a particular aspect of meditative training rather than as a literal person. The link between the story of Guan Yin is looked at as well as the teachings within Daoism and Chinese Buddhism. Not meant as a definite set of facts on the nature of Guan Yin, this talk is meant to help generate thought processes around the nature of deities in alchemical training.
In this episode, Damo is looking at the classical Daoist principle of (云游) or 'cloud wandering'. He is driving across the US and talking about how this principle was applied to help with creation of malleability of sense of identity.
WARNING: This is a fairly rambling chat by Damo, where he is looking at the trials and tribulations of teaching. It may only be relevant to those who teach classes of their own. Please skip this episode if you want to stay with more focused talks. This is a fairly random one!In this talk, Damo discusses teaching, how it is possible to become drained by teaching, becoming a cult leader, disappointments and then, the beautiful side of teaching.
In this episode, Damo is looking at the classical Daoist principle of (云游) or 'cloud wandering'. He is driving across the US and talking about how this principle was applied to help with creation of malleability of sense of identity.
In this episode, Damo is discussing one of the most basic ways in which the five elements (Wu Xing) are used to inform alchemical practice. The model of the five elements is a deep and multi-layered theory that is applied in many ways; here, the focus is on just one of the most basics ways. Laying the foundations within the five elements is w way to ensure that the Qi of the body is regulated and healthy before going into deeper and more powerful alchemical processes.
Damo is discussing the nature of emotions, feelings and moods. He looks at the three categories of dealing with emotions: 1- ending them 2- following them 3- converting them These are three common approaches taken towards the emotions in contemporary and classical spiritual practice.
Trigger warning - Damo is talking about lost young men, manners, chivalry and gender. Please avoid if these kinds of topics upset you in any way.
In this episode, Damo is discussing the nature of self-improvement through contemplation, recognition of personal weakness and then changing your habits. He discusses the responsibility we have to ourselves, the people in our lives and the wider world as cultivators.
In this episode, Damo is informally chatting about three layers of self which may be focused upon in meditative practice. Please note that we had a couple of issues with the recording and so the sound and image doesn't fully synch up. Apologies for this.
In this episode, Damo is looking at the mindset behind alternative healing, Chinese medicine and how people can be generally addicted to healing as a concept.
In this episode, Damo is chatting about ideas of divinity within practice. What does it mean to see yourself as God, as an Avatar, as the Divine Feminine or Masculine? What does it mean to just be normal and isn't this enough?
In this episode, Damo is chatting about the nature of the mind, how attachments are formed and how we may apply our awareness to the formation of mind between direct practice sessions. It is a chatty episode with no real structure, just a sharing of thoughts and experiences.
Just a warning: This isn't a technical or instructional podcast. It is just me chatting about what I saw during the lockdown era and some personal challenges I faced. In this episode, Damo looks at the way in which people have reacted to the lockdown era, how they have formed strong 'sides' and identities as well as looking at some of the abuse he has received from people during this time.
Trigger Warning - If you are quite a grounded person then you may not like this podcast episode. It is quite cosmic at times! Either engage your inner-hippy or listen elsewhere. In this episode, Damo Mitchell casually chats about the nature of meditation and how it relates to Qigong. He also look at awakening as opposed to enlightenment and the nature of the Heavenly realms and rebirth.
Trigger Warning - If the American election or bad humour is likely to offend you then please go listen to another podcast as you are likely to be offended. In this episode, Damo Mitchell discusses the nature of humour and its role in the cultivation arts. He also looks at the nature of the Biden/Trump conflict and how it is ultimately quite ridiculous. He gives hints on how to approach such situations. Life is a daft experience...
In this Halloween episode, Damo is chatting about the nature of Ghosts and Possession with regards to what they are and what they are not. Just to make it clear, Damo's belief is that possession is not what people think it is and so don't be surprised if his talk doesn't agree with the general consensus within the internal arts/alternative community.
