On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Deryck Whibley of Sum 41.
Sum 41 defined an entire generation of skate punk before they played their last show in January 2025. Their final LP, Heaven :x: Hell, was a feat, showing off their signature styles. The Heaven side called back to their snotty pop-punk days, whereas Hell channeled their metallic side that ramped up with 2004’s Chuck.
In the time since, Whibley has released a potent memoir, Walking Disaster, and a clothing brand with the same name, debuting at Warped Tour Orlando last year.
Stopping by the Artist Friendly studio, they get into a raw, reflective conversation where Deryck opens up about his near-death experience, burnout, and what’s next.

On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Jordan Pundik of New Found Glory.
Jordan Pundik of New Found Glory will join Joel Madden on the latest episode of the series.New Found Glory became the soundtrack for teen angst during pop punk’s golden age in the early 2000s, blending their upbringings in Coral Springs, Florida DIY scenes with bouncy hooks. That angst, though, came from a very real place.
“I wish I went back a long time ago to deal with [my anxiety],” Pundik tells Madden. “I haven’t been that vocal about it until recently because I would just hide it and push it down and pretend that everything was OK… That’s my biggest regret — not dealing with it sooner.”
In a conversation with his longtime peer, the New Found Glory frontman elaborates on the positive effects of therapy, growing up on tour together, and Listen Up!, out this Friday (Feb. 20).

On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Matt Quinn of Mt. Joy.
Last spring, Mt. Joy returned with Hope We Have Fun, an album that, after nearly a decade of touring, solidifies years of hard work coming to fruition — including selling out Madison Square Garden and Red Rocks.
For the frontman, the LP revels in the band’s time together: “We’ve all done ridiculous things in sickness and in health. You just look up, and you’re at Madison Square Garden with these people, and it makes you emotional — it feels like something you never could have dreamed. The album is a realization that we pushed ourselves into this crazy world, sometimes for better and sometimes for worse. It’s a lot about sticking together in relationships, living a crazy lifestyle, and just saying, ‘I hope we have fun.’”
In a candid and thoughtful conversation with Joel, Quinn details exactly what it’s taken to arrive at this point.

On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Denis Leary.
Leary specializes in sharp, rapid-fire comedy, honed while coming up through Boston’s local clubs.
“There’s something about Boston comedy crowds — it’s a combination of knowledge and enthusiasm, but they’re also tough,” he said in a local interview. “They can smell blood. They can smell fear. I always felt like it was trial by fire in the Boston clubs in the best possible way.”
He’s gone on to create famous sketches about cancer and coffee, even crossing over from stand-up into TV and film (Rescue Me, Ice Age, etc.) while maintaining his biting humor.
This week, he stops by the Artist Friendly studio for a conversation about his wide-ranging career with Madden.

On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Johnny Famiglietti of HEALTH.
At the tail end of last year, HEALTH returned with CONFLICT DLC — a collection of menacing neo-industrial songs comprising all the anger, fear, and sadness of our current reality.
Following up RAT WARS, the album is a continuation of what they started in 2023 but gets darker and heavier, thanks in part to working with Knocked Loose collaborator Drew Folk.
Ahead of their spring headlining tour, the bassist/producer stopped by the Artist Friendly studio to discuss how Elden Ring inspired the band’s recent full-length, his omnivorous music taste, and the eternal pleasure of live music.

On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Richard Marx.
Marx delivered his self-titled debut album in the spring of 1987 and has kept up the pace, adding over a dozen more to his catalog since. All the while, he frequently showed up on the pop charts, shared a Grammy for Song of the Year with Luther Vandross, and sang background vocals on Madonna’s “White Heat.”
In 2021, he released a memoir called Stories to Tell, which unpacked his four-decade career, but it also serves as the title of his podcast.
This week, the roles are reversed, sitting down with Madden to delve into his latest full-length, After Hours, and beyond.

On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Corbyn Besson.
Besson taught himself to play guitar at age 12, soon uploading a mixture of covers and originals online before joining Why Don’t We in 2016. Influenced by everyone from Boyz II Men to Frank Ocean, the group racked up billions of streams from fans (dubbed “Limelights”) before disbanding.
Besson released his debut solo song, “Love Me Better,” around Valentine’s Day last year, followed by a series of singles that appear on his new Head First EP, out Jan. 16.
In a conversation with Madden, Besson gets candid, opening up about growing up in the spotlight, the reality of boy band life, and the lessons that shaped him along the way.

On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Justin Pierre of Motion City Soundtrack.
Last year, Motion City Soundtrack released The Same Old Wasted Wonderful World, their first studio album in a decade. Recorded at Electrical Audio in Chicago, the LP was produced by early collaborator Sean O’Keefe and featured songs with Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump, Citizen’s Mat Kerekes, and Sincere Engineer, ultimately feeling like a homecoming.
Before the pop-punk alums resume their U.S. tour at the end of January, Pierre stopped by the Artist Friendly studio to open up about their return.

On this week's rerun episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Wiz Khalifa.
Between writing smoked-out anthems, criticizing weed stereotypes, and releasing his own Khalifa Kush, the Pittsburgh-bred MC has long been tied to stoner culture.
Now, Wiz has returned to his roots by releasing the sequel to his 2010 mixtape, Kush & Orange Juice, which takes the songs to a higher level by tapping new producers and a bevy of friends while honoring the original tape.
In a conversation with Madden, the rapper opens up about balancing life as a musician, father, and entrepreneur, and his album, Kush + Orange Juice 2.

On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by ILLENIUM.
Though ILLENIUM (aka Nick Miller) produces Grammy-nominated EDM, he spent his younger days entrenched in the worlds of alternative rock, metalcore, and pop punk. That influence still surrounds his music, paying homage to those roots through collaborations with Avril Lavigne, Travis Barker, and Spiritbox.
He’s also partnered up with End Overdose after getting addicted to opiates in the late 2000s, providing education and safety training through tours and livestreams.
In a conversation with Joel, they talk marriage, sobriety, and his upcoming album, Odyssey, which coincides with a six-show residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas.

On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Kenny Vasoli of The Starting Line.
Throughout the past decade, the Starting Line have largely stayed active by playing their classics across various tours, including the 10th anniversary of Say It Like You Mean It in 2012, and releasing their three-song Anyways EP in 2016. However, the emo and pop-punk elders returned with their first album, Eternal Youth, in nearly two decades this past September via their own label Lineage Recordings.
Taking influence from Lifetime, Drive Like Jehu, and Title Fight, the band have been busy debuting those new songs live, including at this year’s When We Were Young Festival and their own headlining run. Stopping by the Artist Friendly studio, the Starting Line frontman sits down with Joel to open up about their comeback.

On this Surprise Drop of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Orville Peck.
Though Peck wears a fringe mask whenever he performs, he continues to be one of the few openly queer artists in country. In the duo’s latest conversation, they go deep, resulting in a bold and candid episode about genre-bending, identity, and carving your own path in music.
From his anonymous persona and punk beginnings to becoming a pivotal voice for queer representation in country, Peck opens up about what it really means to be authentic — and visible — in a changing industry.
Fresh off his Appaloosa EP, Peck will host his 7th annual Rodeo from Nov. 14-16 at Pappy & Harriet’s in Pioneertown, where country, drag, and comedy will coalesce into an unmissable weekend.

This October, Yellowcard returned with Better Days, their first full-length in nearly a decade, produced by Travis Barker.
“This [album] brought us into the room with nothing to start with. Just a fresh day, fresh minds, fresh idea,” Key said in the band’s AP cover story interview, reveling in newfound confidence.
In a conversation between two longtime peers, Key reflects on the journey that brought Yellowcard back together. He and Joel dive into healing old wounds, rebuilding trust, and navigating fame, as well as burnout, fatherhood, and self-discovery.
