A CAMINO MEMOIR YOU WON'T WANT TO MISS
In The Way of the Wild Goose, author and pilgrim Beebe Bahrami shows us that when it comes to the Camino de Santiago, there is so much more to it than we first think. She also shows us that if we slow down and engage all of our senses – including our intuition – we will likely discover its treasures.
This is a story that matters. It's a story about doing what you are here to do, and it exposes the secret to having the life you want.
The Way of the Wild Goose inspired me to look deeper at my own Camino experiences, and I used those insights when I spoke at my church on August 30.
In case you haven’t had a chance to listen to that talk, you can watch it here. Be sure to catch the made-for-the-Camino songs that precede and follow the talk. Jump ahead to the 14:20 mark for the first song.
Beebe was previously a guest on this podcast in season 3, episode 15. You can listen to that episode here.

FOR THE LOVE OF PILGRIMAGE
If you love the Camino, Spain, and the spiritual practice of pilgrimage, you are going to love this episode of the YOU on the Camino de Santiago podcast.
I love all those things! I also love talking with my guest this week, Chad, who has already been on the podcast several times to share about his pilgrimages on various Camino routes.
This time Chad took on the long and intimidating Via de la Plata route, which starts in Seville in the south of Spain and makes its way to Santiago over nearly 1,000 kilometers. Chad’s story is only partly about the route, though. It’s mostly about the inner journey to peace, honesty, and authenticity, spread out over some very long days.
Our conversation touched on some topics that are hard to pin down: Why are you walking the Camino, and is it important to be able to answer that question before you begin? And if you do have a reason why or an intention for the journey, how does that impact how you plan? And what does it mean to “cheat” on the Camino, and who are you cheating when you do cheat?
After Chad and I chatted for a bit, we were joined by members of our La Terraza online pilgrim community who asked some questions to take this conversation even deeper.
You can catch Chad's conversation with Dave Whitson on The Camino Podcast here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tfEeQ2gN_s

WHEN BLISTERS DERAIL YOUR CAMINO PLANS
Sometimes it takes more than one try to complete a pilgrimage on the Camino de Santiago. That’s what happened with my guest this week, Mark, who is headed back to finish the Portuguese route this month.
Mark had a tough time with blisters and had to cut short his first pilgrimage. What does it feel like to not be able to finish your first Camino? That’s one of the topics we will be exploring, along with some logistical realities of ending your pilgrimage early.

START THE CAMINO ALONE? FOR SOME THAT SEEMS
C R A Z Y
I know that many pilgrims feel nervous about traveling to the Camino alone and starting out alone. That’s how my guest this week, Jan, was feeling when she reached out to inquire about joining one of my groups.
As it turns out, she had a giant plot twist that nearly threw her Camino plans in the trash bin, and she ended up revising her plans to go on her own. But not without some trepidation.
It’s when these plot twists happen that we find out just how badly we want our Camino dream to become a reality. For Jan, there’s nothing she wants more. This is one determined pilgrim, and she suspects that this is going to be a hugely transformational journey for her.

NERVES, TRAINING, AND OTHER PILGRIM CONCERNS
In this week's pilgrim conversation, Maura is in the process of writing her Camino story. I had the pleasure of speaking with her back in June, as she was getting ready for her pilgrimage.
Maura has had her share of nerves, mostly around how physically rigorous the pilgrimage is and whether she would be able to complete it, given the physical challenges she has experienced in the past five years. She has literally gone from the couch to the Camino in an inspiring story filled with determination, resilience, and family support.
THE SPIRITUAL PRACTICE OF PILGRIMAGE
Watch Nancy's message of walking with her shadow, setting intentions on the Camino, and slowing down to the pace of walking. Don't miss the songs before and after the message!
In the August 30 Sunday service at the Center for Spiritual Living, Santa Rosa in California.
If you prefer not to watch the entire service, jump ahead to the 14:15 mark for the songs and the message.

One of the trickiest descents on the Camino Francés comes on the first day or two, when you have to decide which route to take down the mountain into Roncesvalles. This video shows you how to choose the path that's right for you.
