We have been away for a very long while due to life being incredibly chaotic and not allowing me much time for audio editing, but Ric and I are finally back to discuss the first three episodes of the iconic Disney+ miniseries WandaVision, which kickstarted the MCU's Multiverse Saga. We reflect on what we remember our initial thoughts being at the time and how confused we were regarding what was going on, and we also share our deep love and appreciation for the great Kathryn Hahn who is introduced to the MCU here as Agnes O'Connor (whom we later learn is the nefarious witch Agatha Harkness). We are so excited to be covering this series and are excited to be back, so please join us for this journey through the Maximoff saga! I (Christopher) am switching things up a little for this episode as I am joined by my good friend Darrell to talk about our exciting adventure to Disneyland last October! That's right - a long-held wish of mine was finally realized, and I made it to a Disney park! Listen in as we talk about our three days there and our favorite (and maybe not so favorite) rides and events. Ric will be back next episode as we take on the first three episodes of WandaVision! We get a little enchanted for this episode as we cover Enchanted! Enchanted is an unusual Disney movie for several reasons - it's partially animated and partially live-action and is also a Disney movie that is both celebrating and poking fun at, well, Disney. If you are wondering why we are covering Barbie (a Warner Bros. movie with no direct connection to Disney) on a Disney podcast, then tune in because we shall explain! Ric and I both love this movie so much, and I don't think that our justification for covering it is too much of a stretch... certainly not enough to break a Barbie and make her a Weird Barbie! Listen in as we chat about what we love so much about this movie, including its casting, its music, its cinematography, and even how it emotionally touched us and changed our lives! I am flying solo for this episode and am talking about the 2002 animated movie Mickey's House of Villains, which I checked out because I love Disney Villains! However, without spoiling too much of what I have to say here, let's just say that this movie isn't quite what I was expecting. It's also a Halloween movie, so... happy early Halloween! (I mean, it's Halloween every day as far as I am concerned, so...) What are your thoughts on Mickey's House of Villains? Do you agree with my thoughts, or am I completely wrong? Please feel free to reach out via one of the contact methods listed below! Next up, Ric and I will be tackling the 2023 film Barbie! (Why are you covering a WB movie on a Disney podcast, you might be asking? We will explain; I promise!) As per Ric's suggestion, Ric and I are here for MORE as we walk through the 1990 film Dick Tracy! While we recognize that there may be some who don't look back at this film as fondly as we do, we seem to be in agreement that this is a truly unique, fun film! Listen as Ric nerds out about Madonna and we discuss this whacky film that we are in equal agreement is underappreciated. We would love to hear from listeners with your thoughts, so please feel free to reach out via one of the contact methods listed below! I will be flying solo next time covering Mickey's House of Villains, but until then, remember that nothing is better than MORE! Join us this week as we wade through the various elements of the 2023 Disney/Pixar movie Elemental! An animated movie about finding love in unexpected places (like the basement of your father's snack shop) and with unexpected people, we walk through the plot and share our thoughts on whether or not the movie strikes a match with us. What are your thoughts on Elemental? Did we miss or overlook something? Do you agree or disagree with our thoughts? We would love to hear from you, so please feel free to reach out via one of the contact methods listed below! Join me as I take yet another dive under the sea discussing the live-action 2023 remake of The Little Mermaid! Joined again by Ric (who will be my permanent co-host from here on out!), we discuss what about this remake works for us and what maybe doesn't work as well, what we think of the new songs, our thoughts about the cast (we seem to be in agreement that Melissa McCarthy is one of the best parts of the movie), and so much more! How does this movie stack up against some of the other live-action adaptations that we have gotten over the last several years such as Beauty and the Beast (2017), Aladdin (2019), The Lion King (2019), etc., and how does it stack up against the original animated film from 1989? We had such a great time talking about this movie together and can't wait for you to hear our observations and critiques! 🎵Welcome back. Welcome back. Welcome back. Welcome back.🎵 Welcome back indeed, listeners, as we venture into the Quantum Realm! I am discussing the MCU movie Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Marvel Studios' third entry in the Ant-Man series and the first (and also probably last) MCU movie to feature Kang the Conqueror. After Kang was technically introduced as He Who Remains in the season 1 finale of Loki, I was very excited to see that story continued in this movie, but was the excitement worth it? For the second time on the podcast (the first time being when my brother and I discussed the Disney Lorcana card game), I am not discussing a movie! This time, I am walking you through my top five favorite Disney Villains (limiting it to traditional Disney and excluding Star Wars, Marvel, etc.) and explaining a little bit as to why each one makes the cut. I will also be going through five honorable mentions for a total of ten Disney Villains. Will your favorite villain make the cut? Tune in to find out, and if you enjoy this episode, please subscribe to the podcast wherever you listen so that you never miss a new episode! Let's do the time warp again - as in bring you an episode from the past! Originally intended to be a seasonal Halloween episode, our discussion around The Rocky Horror Picture Show (originally released by Fox which now means that it's Disney property) is being released much closer to Thanksgiving than to Halloween, but it was recorded on Halloween, so that counts for something, right? Besides, Eddie certainly looks like a Thanksgiving turkey in the dinner scene! Ric is back in this episode to tackle the 1975 cult horror comedy musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show, sharing our earliest memories of having seen it and how our feelings for it have evolved over time. We also share how much we appreciate it being so far ahead of its time, an arthouse film in so many ways that was very likely aware that it was going to cause more raised eyebrows in 1975 than it was going to cause bitten lower lips. Even though the film is whacky and nonsensical and does not have much of a linear plot, we love it for what it is and recognize that, despite that, there are still some interesting themes to pull from the film such as rejecting oppressive cultural norms and instead allowing yourself to be yourself - to not dream it but rather to be it! We both had such a blast discussing this movie and hope that you love our conversation! If so, please be sure to subscribe to the podcast so that you never miss a new episode. I would also love to hear from you, so please feel free to reach out to me via one of the contact methods listed below, but, in the meantime, stay tuned for the next episode when I will be counting down my top five favorite Disney villains! We are continuing spooky season this year with the Academy Award winning 2017 film The Shape of Water! Directed and co-written by legendary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, The Shape of Water is heavily influenced by the 1954 horror film The Creature from the Black Lagoon and tells the story of Elisa Esposito, a middle-aged nonverbal woman who falls in love with an Amphibian Man not too far removed from the Gill-man creature from the aforementioned classic horror film. I am joined again in this episode by Ric (who is, in fact, the one who originally recommended the movie to me), and we discuss how cinematically and visually beautiful that this very green movie is, pointing to some of our favorite shots and scenes. We also discuss themes that the movie touches upon, themes such as social oppression, marginalization, and loneliness. We both love this movie, and I am so glad that Ric recommended it to me! Join us (and yes, Ric will be back again, so I mean us literally!) next time as we do the time warp again discussing The Rocky Horror Picture Show! In the meantime, please feel free to reach out with your thoughts about The Shape of Water, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, or anything related to Disney for that matter! Boys and girls of every age, wouldn't you like to see something strange? It is officially spooky season (otherwise known as the most wonderful time of the year), and we are kicking that off with one of my favorite movies of all time, The Nightmare Before Christmas! When Jack Skellington starts to feel disenchanted about his role as king of Halloween Town, he decides to take over Christmas instead which leads to disastrous results, and joining me for this conversation is my good friend Ric, whom regular listeners may recall from episode 4 of the podcast which covered Maleficent: Mistress of Evil! Ric joins me as we discuss our earliest memories around having seen this movie in the early '90s, what we especially love about this movie, who our favorite characters are, and so much more. Next up on the podcast is The Shape of Water, for which Ric will be back once again! Coming off from discussing Ariel's journey in The Little Mermaid (1989) and The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea, join me in this episode as I discuss another Disney Princess associated with the sea, Moana! The eponymous movie follows Moana of the South Pacific island Motunui as she, with the help of an unlikely friend (the demigod named Maui), journeys far beyond her waters to restore the heart of the goddess Te Fiti and save the world from the impending blight. I share my favorite moments from the movie and commend its beautiful, stellar animation and also share a thing or two that I think the movie could have done better. Of course, with it now being September, it is now officially Spooky Season, so I hope that you will join me next time when I tackle one of my all-time favorite movies - The Nightmare Before Christmas! Following up last episode in which I went under the sea to discuss the 1989 animated classic The Little Mermaid, join me now as I talk about the 2000 straight-to-video sequel, The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea! In this follow-up, Ariel is now mother to an adventurous and indepedent tween named Melody who faces the danger of falling prey to Ursula's vengeful sister Morgana. While it doesn't really hold a candle to its predecessor, it is a decent sequel and is at least a lot better than the prequel movie that followed, and I hope that you will join me as I share my thoughts on it! Next up is another beloved character associated with the sea, Moana! Look at this podcast. Isn't it neat? It's time to take a dive under the sea to discuss the 1989 animated classic, The Little Mermaid! Join me as I talk about how much I love Ursula (my third favorite Disney villain) and how my perspective on Ariel has changed a bit now that I am an adult. With stellar cinematography and beautiful, haunting music, this film is undoubtedly one of my favorites, so I am so excited to be sharing this discussion with you, and if you're looking for a more thorough discussion of the 2023 live-action remake, don't worry - it's coming! Following my discussion of the Disney/Pixar hit Ratatouille, I am doing a pretty short episode on, well, a short! The short movie Your Friend the Rat was released as a bonus feature on the Ratatouille home video (which was released several months after the movie itself hit cinemas). While it doesn't really feature much of a story, it is a very educational and, at times, funny movie about the history of rats and the species' interactions with humans. Last time on the podcast, I discussed the 2022 Searchlight Pictures horror comedy The Menu, and while I am returning to a more traditional Disney movie this time, I am staying on the foodie train with the 2007 Disney/Pixar movie Ratatouille! Join me as I talk about a rat named Remy who can somehow control a young man named Linguini by using strands of his hair as puppet strings (something that is never explained) and does so to fulfill his dream of becoming a world-renowned chef. I talk about my favorite moments from the movie and how adorable Remy's and Linguini's friendship is, and I also reflect on some of what I remember feeling after first seeing the movie vs. how I feel now after rewatching it. If you're a fan of this movie, then I hope that will hit the play button and listen in! I am switching things up quite a bit in this episode, but I assure you, it's all just part of the menu. I am discussing the 2022 horror comedy film The Menu distributed by Searchlight Pictures (now an arm of Walt Disney Studios). Watching this film for the podcast was actually my first time seeing it, whereas everything else that I have covered on the show thus far were rewatches, so listen in as I share my thoughts on what I was thinking and guessing throughout the film, who the protagonist of the film is meant to be, what I think of the ending, and so much more! Want to join the discussion? I would so love to hear from you before the next episode when I cover Ratatouille, so please feel free to reach out!
