Are younger artists, smaller artists, and emerging artists outgrowing smaller venues from a production perspective? Think about it. As technology progresses and artists are finding it more viable to have their own in-ear monitors, own lighting and rigs, in order to sound the best and put on the best show, are smaller venues going to be able to keep up with it?For artists that are in that spot right now, there is a struggle connecting with those types of venues. Does their sound system work well enough for the sound that you need to put on a good show? Are there too many artists on a bill to do a proper sound check? Will cutting corners create a less-than-stellar show and create a negative experience for a band, a venue, and the fans that show up? How can we ensure that doesn't happen?Vik from the modern rock band Telling Secrets joins the Chord Progression Podcast today. An hour long conversation ensues to show you who the band is and what is going on with small venues. So we talk about:- If a smaller artists' will and ability to create their best sound with their own equipment outgrow the smaller venues from a production aspect? And how can venues and artists work together to create an experience that allows a band to put on the best show, the fans to have the best time, and the venues to succeed in the long run?- The dead period of new music and live shows between the end of December and the middle of January every year, and if that dead period is shortening as we progress through the decade.- Who Telling Secrets is, how Matt McAndrew of Rain City Drive aided the band, and how Vik is learning from his past songs to write stronger songs that connect with people on a stronger level.A fantastic episode that will also make you think about how smaller shows can be the best value for everyone involved going forward. When a band replaces a longtime vocalist, fans usually have a tough time accepting the change and giving the new vocalist a chance. This is because music is a personal thing for many of us, and a deeply connective thing on an emotional level for many of us. Some go into the new experience with an open mind, and others never give it a chance. But this one, we implore you to give it a chance. Because the music is just that good, the vocals are just as heavy, and the connective sound to emotion is so well done, you will want to listen to the album over and over and over again. Trust us, we already are.John from the Japanese metalcore band Crystal Lake joins the Chord Progression Podcast. With the band's first album in 7 years, The Weight of Sound, releasing on January 23rd (and the first with new vocalist John Robert Centorrino), we dive deep into the album and John's time with Crystal Lake since 2023. Join us as we discuss.- John taking over for longtime vocalist Ryo Kinoshita, and why vocalist changes in any band are tough for fans to process and accept, but why John isn't worried about it.- How different recording "The Weight of Sound" was compared to other albums John had recorded with bands from the west, and how a sharp focus on the small details makes all the difference.- Why "The Weight of Sound" was written like a diary, with songs like Coma Wave, The Undertow, Everblack, and Don't Breathe showing a connective tale all based on emotion. We have not been able to stop listening to this album and neither will you. Coming out of the gate as a new band at the beginning of the decade with everything heavy, aggressive, and raw would make any artist stand out in the early 2020's. Especailly with a focus taking on the concept of organized religion, that artist is going to stand out amongst the crowd. So after the first album released and the band is known, what is next? With album #2 to start out 2026 for this deathcore band, what can we expect to see from them? Can we expect heavier songs with impressive low vocals that bring forth a primal urge to fight? An anthemic and theatrical presentation to feel the power rise within you? A "softer" take on a few songs that show an expanded range of songwriting? The answer, all of the above.Chase from the deathcore band Ov Sulfur joins the Chord Progression Podcast. The band's second album "Endless" is set for a full release on January 16th and we are ready to give it to you. For artists that started during the age of streaming, where singles dominate music release, consumption, and pleasing streaming algorithms, how is a band supposed to show growth and expansion of sound over time? The single shows a track, but an album or an EP can show focus, growth, and give room for an artist to experiment. So how do they walk the fine line of how music is consumed today, and showing more of what they can do?Well today you are in luck. That is because we have a band that Sharptone records believes showed enough promise with the singles that they started releasing back in 2020 to sign, as well as put faith in to show a greater expansion to their post-hardcore sound with their next release. And what better way to discover them than right here.Xavier and Vincent from the Canadian post-hardcore band Second Harbour join the Chord Progression Podcast today. Their debut EP & first release on Sharptone Records, Coalesce, releases on December 12th. Discover the band with us as we talk about:- Why the album and EP is still an important release for an artists to package an amalgamation of sound and range in their music, compared to releasing singles to maximize streaming numbers.- How artists need to ride the fine line of music experimentation and sound expectation in order to create the best music for themselves.- The importance of taking a swing in your music, proven by the odd pattern on "Mourning Dove," and the focus on making every song a deep cut for greater depth of listenability. This is an interesting one to say the least, with another great band that Sharptone believes in. Artists that have been making music for the majority of their lives notice the same things as they get older. Moving on stage is harder, responsibility in life continues to grow, and mental blocks in the writing process cause new music to take longer to release. It happens to everyone, even though we dont want that to happen. But what happens when an artists embraces these changes, takes their time with the music, and uses those changes to make an introspective review of life? Sure the music might take longer to release, but we get something much more fulfilling and creative than we thought. The Mikes, Michael and Myke, from the melodic metalcore band Volumes joins the Chord Progression Podcast. With their first album since 2021, Mirror Touch, releasing on December 12th, we dive into the making of the album and everything we can by:- Reflecting on the making of "Mirror Touch" and how the band had break through the mental blocks that come with age during the songwriting process.- Seeing how Volumes finds a way to continue making the music they love and perform to the best of their ability as they get older, and push through injuries.- Discussing the emotional introspection that encapsulates the "Mirror Touch" writing process over 4 years, and how each song hooks you in right from the intro.Good way to end your 2025 and start your 2026 with new music. Musicians and artists are at war with AI. People are using AI to rip off real musicians for financial gain, and hard working artists are suffering in the massively competitve music space. Remember the saga of the AI band Bleeding Verse ripping of Holding Absence? Yea, this is only going to continue to happen. So in this war, who is going to win? Is it going to be those using AI to create music because it is easy and convenient? Or is it going to be the artists who have the ability to adapt and be creative in their approach to making the music they love? The winner will be the one that can answer this question... who is going to connect with the fans the best?We have Zero 9:36 on the podcast today with his new album (or mixtape) "They Were Always Here" releasing on December 12th. Join us for an impactful 45 minutes as we talk about:- The new album "They Were Always Here" and how it is more like a rap mixtape than a rock album, based on the wide variety and mix of sonic ideas presented... with more to come in 2026?- Why AI music is becoming a major issue for musicians going foward, ripping off their creative intellectual property, and how businessmen are blind thinking "no one wants to learn to play an instrument anymore"- If AI music is fradulent for its creators collecting a "Performance Royalty" like an artist would earn for actually performing the song. This episode went in a different direction in the best way. Music has an incredible ability to create an enhanced way to express complex issues, problems, and ideas. Those problems could be as small as having a bad day, or as big as being in a toxic relationship and struggling to get out. Those ideas could be as small as what should I do today, or as big as learning to handle your emotions properly. With their first song out in 5 years, this punk rock band came back just as passionate as when they left. Not afraid to take on big topics and ideas, and express them in a way that helps the listener understand their role in that situation. So, who are they, and why should you take this seriously?Shawna from the punk rock band War On Women joins the Chord Progression Podcast. The band recently released their first single in 5 years, "Precious Problem" and this episode we do what War On Women does. We get deep into discussion about:- Intimate Partner Violence as the core story and theme behind "Precious Problem" as well as what we can do to help those in that situation, being the support system they need.- The process of creating music & art, to help themselves and others process larger events and more complex emotions.- Anger and aggression being positive emotions for change and growth, when we know how to harness and use them properly.Punk rock saves lives, and this episode will help make that saying true. There are always bands out there that are making music so closely intertiwned with the sounds that made them want to become musicians in the first place. Whether it be Led Zeppelin, or the Painkiller album by Judas Priest (like this band), those sounds stay consistent and strong. But how can that sound evolve, and become something more individualistic for an artist?Well, 8 years after their debut album, a heavy metal band out of the Midwest is taking their heavy metal roots, adding a more robust anthemic and melodic sound, and creating an album that shows exactly who they are. And that is a band that wants to hit it hard, playing in arenas all over the world.Dee and Magnus from the Indianapolis metal band Sacred Leather join the Chord Progression Podcast with their second album, Keep the Fire Burning, releasing on December 12th. Discover the band on this episode as we dive deep into:- Why Sacred Leather decided to create a more anthemic and melodic style to their heavy metal roots, with the focus on the longevity of their sound that can only be found in rock and metal music.- The concept of the final song on an album, and if artists are missing out on creating a fantastic end with intrigue by using the last track as filler.- If Sacred Leather can get sponsored by Kentucy Fried Chicken, leading to an endorsement from Bruce Dickinson, and playing Louder than Life in 2026.New music is all the rage on the Chord Progression Podcast, so tap the subscribe button to not miss out on any more.Find Sacred Leather Online:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/leathersacredleatherInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/sacred_leatherYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@sacredleatherWebsite: https://sacredleather.bandcamp.com/album/keep-the-fire-burningSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1h5fv1H2p95JMN7aZdX4Bj?si=pmwx3b3tTNawdvYSUTbT3wApple Music: https://music.apple.com/us/artist/sacred-leather/1835785800Check out our sponsor: DarkFusion Systems!Use code "CPPOD" for $100 off of your computer build!https://darkfusionsystems.comFollow us on social media!Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/chordprogressionpodcastTwitter:https://twitter.com/cppodofficialInstagram:https://www.instagram.com/chordprogressionpodcast/YouTube:https://youtube.com/channel/UCqRKZCDMcFHIYbJaLQMfDbQChord Progression Podcast (Spotify):https://open.spotify.com/show/53XWPGrIUvgavKF5Fm6SLkChord Progression Podcast (Apple Podcast):https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chord-progression-podcast-the-gateway-to-new-rock-and-metal-music/id1454876657Chord Progression Podcast (Amazon): https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/b8dad803-444c-4a73-8aa5-67b4fc43f4baChord Progression Podcast (iHeart Radio):https://www.iheart.com/podcast/269-chord-progression-70632531/Podcast Webpage:https://mysongoftheday.com/my-song-of-the-day-rock-2000-today/chord-progression-podcast/Welcome: (0:00)On the Road with Sacred Leather: (1:31)The Release of "Keep the Fire Burning" so Far: (3:28)Heavy Meets Evolved Melodic & Anthemic Sounds: (6:09)Endorsed by KFC?: (10:01)The Non-Singles to Check Out: (13:43)How Important is the Last Track of an Album?: (17:18)What's On Tap for 2026?: (24:00)New Artists to Check Out: (26:32)Kevin's Final Thought; Does The Album Closer Matter?: (32:43)

You may figure out your styel of writing and creating. You may just discover that you were meant for this. You may be able to reflect back on life, thinking of what your 15 year old self would say about you, and know you achieved your dream.Derrick from the pop punk/emo band Minute After Midnight joins the Chord Progression Podcast. 4 years to create an album is a long time, especially in the age of streaming and digital music. So why not release the album in 3 batches? 2 EPs and then as a full album with more songs thrown in there? Would that even work?Well it does satisfy the hunger and the want for consistent music in the world today. But it poses some problems of the thought of releasing something as repackaged, releasing something that is better off as parts of a whole, or releasing something that is mostly filler. Can a band do this style right and create something that is great on its own, great as a whole, & only good quality songs? This one can.Chris form the German post-hardcore/metalcore band Annisokay joins the Chrod Progression Podcast today. Manga and anime have become a massive force in pop culture around the world, being something that is celebrated and enjoyed by many. 20 years ago in the United States and most of Europe, that wasn't the case. Of course it was popular in Japan, but also in France? So what happens when French musicians grow up on manga & anime, create heavy music heavily inspired and driven by that love for manga, and make music in a creative & unique way, you know you found something. And when heavy music is in the midst of its revival, it is the perfect storm, for the perfect band.B from the metacore x hardcore x rap x manga band Rise of the Northstar joins the Chord Progression Podcast. The band is set to release their brand new album "Chapter 04: Red Falcon Super Battle! New Paris War!!" on November 14th, and we get you ready for it right here. On this episode, we discuss:- How manga has had a strong connection to French kids for many years compared to the USA & the rest of Europe, and how its inspiration has lead Rise of the Northstar to create a truly unique sound in heavy music.- Why metal became too saturated in the past, and why it is important for artists to take inspiration from their own cultures infused into their music for a unique and authentic take.- Delivering an evolved sound that is not just straightforward heavy all the time on the new album, but taking more nu metal inspiration to create something much more dynamic mixed in with manga.Alright, this is unique, and more artists like this are coming. Heavy music today is more unique than ever compared to any point in history. It is more diverse in sound compared to the beginnings in the late 60s, than the boom of the 80's, than the nu metal wave of the 90's, than any other era that came before it. But something still is consistent with it, the heaviness is at the core of every artist's sound. So how do you build off of that to keep this diversity in heavy music continuing to grow and blossom? Something differnt has to be done. Well we found a band using heavy influences as their primary accenting sound, with infectious grooves and a funky bass as their core. Best part is, you have met them here already.Phillipp and Bastian from the German metalcore band AVRALIZE join the Chord Progression Podcast for the 2nd time. With the new album "liminal" releasing on November 14th, we get you ready for the album by discussing:- How AVRALIZE wrote a heavy record with infections grooves and a funky bass being at the core of their sound, with metalcore influences as the accenting piece.- AVRALIZE haivng a songwriting focus on making what they see is the best final product on each song, regardless of any resrtictions, & going beyond the scope of range of their influences.- "liminal" songs to check out on release day, including one that could fit easily at any time over the past 50 years.Great to have the guys back. Heavy music has always gone through points of evolution throughout the course of time. From the evolution of thrash metal in the 80s, nu metal in the 90s, and what is happening right now with bands like Bad Omens and Sleep Token. But is that because of artists rehashing and remixing old ideas, or creating something that is uniquely them in this time period?Well today, we found a band that is one of the freshest sounding heavy bands in the current day. One that is bringing different styles into their music, not in the same way or with the same structures as all others in the scene right now. That infusion has helped them create their own sound that many other artists are big on, but fans are split. But trust us, you will want to be a part of it.Alexander from the experimental German metalcore band Vianova joins the Chord Progression Podcast today. With the band's debut LP, HIT IT, out now, we dive deep into their sound and style with this conversation. Join us as we discuss:- What the reception was like to HIT IT, how their diverse and wide ranging sound had fans split from loving it to questioning it, and how the album offers many points of entry into their sound.- How Vianova blended so many different styles from 80's, R&B, Gospel, & more into "HIT IT" from an evolved writing process.- If the current explosion of heavy music popularity is caused by a new invention of sound or a rehash of old ideas in a new way, looking at artists like Sleep Token, Bad Omens, and Bring Me The Horizon. This was a band we wanted to bring on and the conversation was more immersive than we could expect. At the beginning of 2021, we brought on a band to the podcast due to a copyright snafu forcing their name to change, because we were interested. That has led us to absolutely fall in love with their sound, their fantastic debut album, and a sophmore album that amplified everything about their sound. But with their third album coming up, you know we have to catch up with the band and answer a few questions. Questions like; what has the band done to evolve their sound oveall on this record, is it going to work out for them in the long run, and does the quality of the album stand tall in this sound evolution? Well, we have an album of the year candidate, hope that answers those questions.Matt from the UK post-hardcore band Caskets returns for his 4th & quickest visit to the Chord Progression Podcast, with the 3rd Caskets album "The Only Heaven You'll Know" releasing on November 7th. Dive deep into Caskets and the new album with us as we discuss:- The pressure Caskets felt when it came to delivering on a similar sound they created when writing "Reflections" in 2023, but the more confident in evolving their sound through experimentation on "The Only Heaven You'll Know."- How Caskets evolved their sound further with "The Only Heaven You'll Know" by digging deeper into their influences, adding more 80's, synths, and even unclean vocals for a wider ranging sound.- Songs that amplify the evolution of Casket's sound from Closure, Save Us, and Our Remedy (ft.
