Description

What does it really mean to be “lazy”? Often, women are dismissed as lazy for rejecting outdated roles or resting instead of conforming. Despite progress, the weight of these labels persists.

On The Lazy Women Podcast, we challenge stereotypes and reclaim “lazy” through raw, thoughtful conversations on feminism, pop culture, belonging, and more. By sharing stories of underrepresented women in the global feminist discourse, we spotlight the lived experiences, challenges, and triumphs shaping modern womanhood.

In the eighth - and last - episode of ‘Making it’ in Western Europe, we come full circle. Mirroring our first conversation in the series, Zsofi and I switch roles to discuss my (at points bumpy) journey from the Czech Republic to Brussels, with stopovers in Norway, Hungary, Italy and partly also the UK. I open up about my background, difficulties with my name, the role that education played in my social mobility, and my never-ending love for dancing. I also speak about my experience of living with an international partner and how Brussels finally allowed me to combine all of my disparate identities and live experiences. There is still a way to go in my journey of belonging but at least for the time being, I feel that I am in the right place :) Would you like to use this final chance to hang out with us and discuss the episode? Then join us for our upcoming 'Making it' Pod Talk! Our Pod Talks are open and intimate community reflections where we share our own experiences, ask questions and collectively reflect on what the themes of identity and belonging actually mean to us. We will be sharing the exact date soon, so make sure to follow us on socials not to miss the sign up link! --- Special thanks to everyone behind the production. In the seventh episode of ‘Making it’ in Western Europe, Zsofi talks to Basia. Originally from Poland, Basia is a theatre stage designer who studied and worked in the UK and is currently involved in theatre projects all over Europe. They discuss Basia's upbringing in the Polish countryside, her art education, her relocation to the UK and subsequent return to Poland and the different roles that art and theatre play in various countries. In the sixth episode of ‘Making it’ in Western Europe, Zsofi and I talked to Julie, Lazy Women's new newsletter editor. Originally from Russia, Julie was arrested for her involvement in anti-war demonstrations and - with a short stop in Armenia - ended up in Paris. This was a difficult but powerful conversation about leaving everything behind, beauty standards, new languages, loneliness and the 'need' to fit in, Slavic stereotypes, the importance of having and building communities, and what it feels like to be a Russian woman in Europe right now. Would you like to dive deeper into any of these themes? Then join Julie and Eloïse at our next 'Making it' Pod Talk! In the fifth episode of ‘Making it’ in Western Europe, I was talking with Aida. Aida came to Italy as a refugee from Bosnia when she was a child and has since perfectly integrated into the Italian society. Through her research, she is now re-discovering her roots and mother tongue and the inter-related nature of her Yugoslav and Italian identities. This was a really powerful conversation about trauma, human solidarity, and connections through music and I am immensely grateful to Aida for sharing her life story with us. Do you have any questions for Aida or would you like to share your own experience with identity and belonging? Then join our next 'Making it' Pod Talk! In the fourth episode of ‘Making it’ in Western Europe, we were joined by Nino. Originally from Georgia, Nino has lived in multiple countries all over Europe and has recently moved back to her home country to settle down and start a family. In our conversation, we discussed what led to her decision to return, which countries felt the most welcoming, her affinity to Eastern Europe, the concept of the 'West,' and Georgia’s long path towards EU accession. Would you like to ask Nino about her experience and dive deeper into our reflections on identity and belonging? We will be discussing some of these questions and more during our fourth 'Making it' Pod Talk next week. Interested to join? In the third episode of ‘Making it’ in Western Europe, we talk with Dinara, our Lazy Women social media manager. Dinara was born in Kazakhstan and moved to Budapest, Hungary, in 2018 to pursue an MA degree in Cultural Heritage. As Covid-19 coincided with her graduation, she decided to stay and build her new life in Europe. Witnessing tumultuous political environment and undergoing personal identity crisis, in this episode, Dinara ponders on the implications and choices of leaving /returning, on finding purpose in life and ways of giving back to the community and people who make us. Would you like to dive deeper? We will be discussing some of these questions and more in our upcoming 'Making it' Pod Talk on February 19th at 19.00 CET. Interested to join? In this episode, Lazy Aizada and our community favourite online creator Alice Cappelle delve into Alice’s recently released debut book Collapse Feminism, while highlighting the need to make theories of gender and sexuality more accessible to the public. Alice talks neoliberal feminism, “natural” masculinity and divine femininity, as well as the effect of technology on our understanding of gender and relationships. Be it a last-minute Christmas present or a new year treat for yourself, this book and interview was the cherry on top of the first 12 months of The Lazy Women Podcast. In this episode Lazy Selin is joined by Ayesha Amin, the founder of Baithak, a Pakistan-based organisation working to increase women’s access to sexual and reproductive health. Baithak seeks to challenge taboos and create safe spaces for women to discuss sexual and reproductive health, holding conversations on a variety of topics from menstruation to gender-based violence. Amin discusses what led her to setting up the organisation, the biggest challenges she has faced as a female-founder in a patriarchal society and why working with men is also important if we want to improve women’s access to information and healthcare. Lazy Aizada and Lazy Dinara dive into a deep chat on female friendships and alternative ways of belonging outside of traditional nuclear family structures. They explore why we are taught, or expected, to give less value to female friendships than finding a partner, and how the pandemic challenged the notions of who we are and can be really close to - both physically and emotionally. The conversation considers the unique support that female friends provide for each other and how we can nurture such relationships, despite long distances, external pressures, and other challenges. Did you ever wonder how we can apply feminist principles to the realities of paid and unpaid work? And how we can use rest and remuneration to create structural change? In this episode, Lazy Lauren talks to Ellie Sugden, co-founder of Our Generation for Inclusive Peace (OGIP) - a grass-roots, youth-led organisation founded on feminist principles. Lauren and Ellie dig deep into how feminism is applied in OGIP’s day-to-day and what it means to do such important work on a voluntary basis. From how women engage in voluntary labour in capitalist structures to the importance of remuneration and finding space for rest, the conversation covers how to fit unpaid work into the daily realities and financial struggles, while still making time for necessary laziness! As the Lazy Women logo suggests, we enjoy a glass of wine (or two…) alone, with friends, and with other loved ones. But how much time do we take to consider where that wine comes from, how much effort it took to make, and what’s really in the glass? We still have a long way to go in our war against patriarchy. But there is hope(!) with many societies around the world becoming more gender equal over time. But how did the patriarchy come about? What were its drivers in history? And how come certain countries manage to approach gender equality, while others lag behind? Our today’s guest, Dr. Alice Evans interviewed by Ayşe Göç from the Lazy Women team, is here to help you trace the global history of gender divergence and the most important drivers of gender equality! She travelled to many countries, got immersed in local communities, and enriched her research through these encounters. She is a great scholar, an inquisitive spirit, and believes in the healing power of supporting women. You can also look forward to voices of some of our contributors, sharing personal stories about struggle that women still face in their own countries. We hope you will enjoy! Are men funnier than women? What is a punchline gap? And has cancel culture killed our ability to joke around? In today’s episode, Selin Bucak interviews The Clit Comedy Club! Also known as Anshita Koul, a software engineer turned comedian from India, and Mari Volar, a comedian, producer and musician from Estonia. In the episode, we cover everything you ever wanted to know about female comedians: from political correctness and the punchline gap to online bullying and getting cancelled! You may think that The Clit Comedy Club creators consciously use humour as a tool of political activism, but they say that they are just talking about their own experiences. For them, everything is political, especially when covering topics like queerness, fat-shaming or being an immigrant.  And the best news: The Clit Comedy Club is currently on tour with their “Clitoris Act” performance!!! Their Budapest showing is already on March 6th with a special Q&A moderated by our one and only Eszter Sólyom. So make sure to get your tickets on time because they won’t last long! Links below. When we say women in fairy tales, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? Witches? Princesses in need? Evil stepmothers? We think it's time to spice up these stereotypes with a healthy dose of feminism! In this episode, Hungary's first international storyteller and writer, Zalka Csenge Virág answers the questions of Ayşe Göç from the Lazy Women team about the image of women in Carpathian folk tales and her journey to become a storyteller. She shares invaluable anecdotes about the evolution of fairy tales and extraordinary images of women that don't fit the classic "evil stepmother" and "princess waiting to be rescued" stereotypes. We are sure that the portrayal of women in classic Hungarian fairy tales will surprise you. Just like us! As 2025 comes to a close, Lazies Aleli, Teodora, and Zsofi take stock of what the past year has been like for Lazy Women. 2025 has been one of growth—in terms of embarking on new projects, continuing to formalize our methods and strategies, and becoming more confident as a media organization. The Lazies also chat about what's to come for the next year. Notably, the launch of Making It in Eastern Europe—a multi-platform project that centers on Eastern European stories.
