Welcome to Kendall Bookworms! This is our first bonus episode of season 3. And as the title suggests, Alex pulled a fast one on Joe. Alex decided to read the third and final installment of his all time favorite book series, Stuffed. As those familiar with these episodes, you all know this is a smut book. So anyone that snuck in the theater that should not be listening to this sort of thing, please kindly f*** off and come back next month.   Stuffed Shorts is Silvia Morrow's last installment of the Stuffed series. The triple entendre is pretty obvious. We get 3 short stories that are interconnected. Alex goes into far more detail than Joe wants to hear. So, if you enjoy Joe's suffering, this is the episode for you to tune into.   Next month is Joe's first pick of season three. He has picked a military sci-fi book called Death's Head by David Gunn. So make sure to tune in on the 5th to hear all about this thrill ride of a book.   Just as a reminder, we post twice monthly. On the 5th we post our book of the month. And on the 20th we will provide you lovely listeners with a bonus episode. Please make sure to subscribe so that you never miss an episode. And please be active listeners and comment and rate on how you think we are doing. All the details below.   Please help us grow this podcast. The more listeners we get the more we can do. While Alex and Joe love talking books it is nice to know we aren't the only two out there blathering into the universe.    If you would like to get ahold of us you can at; kendallbookworms@gmail.com   Our Instagram is; https://www.instagram.com/kendallbookworms/   And now we have a Facebook Page. And we're back!   It is the start of season 3. I know it has felt like a long time since you have heard our silky, sultry voices. Not doing that bonus episode makes it feel as if we have been gone forever.    But not to fear. We are back, like I said. And Alex, as per usual, has the privilege of the first pick of the season. And to start the season off, he decided to begin with a murder mystery. We read The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith. Listen as the brothers pick apart the nuances of this author's first attempt into the highly competitive genre or hardboiled detective noir.    Next month Joe gets to pick his first pick of the season. He is going for something a bit more niche. His love of sci-fi has gotten the better of him, and he is digging deep into the sub-genre of military science fiction. For the month of March, we will be reading Death's Head by David Gunn. So, make sure to keep your eyes open for that one. It is a harder book to find, so if you are one of the strong, that likes to read along, just be prepared to have to do a deep search.   Just as a reminder, we post twice monthly. On the 5th we post our book of the month. And on the 20th we will provide you lovely listeners with a bonus episode. Please make sure to subscribe so that you never miss an episode. Season 2 Wrap-Up

Season 2 Wrap-Up

2026-01-0501:30:16

Hey everyone! We made it! Two full seasons now. 32 books total that the brothers picked out for everyone to read. A whole bunch more in bonus episodes. It's been quite the ride. In this episode, the brothers are going to go over all the books they read this season, ranking them and comparing them to the first season. Then Joe is going to geek out on some stats and Alex is going to try and stump Joe in a little game he made up.   This may be the last episode of season 2. But fear not. There is a third season coming next month. The brothers have already picked their books for the season and are thinking up new and exciting bonus material. For all those people that want to be involved with the process, feel free to reach out. We will take book recommendations, recommendations for episode ideas, author interviews, or guest appearances. Ways to get ahold of us will be listed below.   There will be no bonus episode this month. The brothers need a well deserved break. And a chance to get ahead. It was a real struggle at the end of this season to get everything together. Bonus episodes will be back next month.   That said, the first book of season three has been announced. Alex, who gets the traditional first pick of the show has set us up for a mystery. He picked The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith. Make sure you pick it up and read along with us, if that's your jam. Otherwise, we look forward to being in your ears next month.    Just as a reminder, we post twice monthly. On the 5th we post our book of the month. And on the 20th we will provide you lovely listeners with a bonus episode. Please make sure to subscribe so that you never miss an episode. Becky joins us for the last bonus episode of the season for one of her favorite books that she read this year. She tells Joe all about the book Come Fly the World by Julia Cooke and the amazing women who flew on Pan Am as stewardesses. It is an interesting story that Becky is clearly thrilled about. Some check it out.   We also passed 1,000 downloads for the year! So, thank you for all the people that have listened to the show. The brothers are truly thankful for all of your support. We hope that you stick around for next year as we roll into season 3.   Next month is our season wrap-up episode. Joe drops some stats on everyone. Alex and Joe compare their book picks and bonus episode ratings with Goodreads and each other. Alex even has a quick little game for Joe. We will also be announcing Alex's first pick of season 3, so you don't want to miss it.   Just as a reminder, we post twice monthly. On the 5th we post our book of the month. And on the 20th we will provide you lovely listeners with a bonus episode (as noted, the brothers are both becoming very busy with life, so this schedule may be changing; please stay tuned for any updates that they will be making). Hyperion Book Review

Hyperion Book Review

2025-12-0501:49:51

Welcome to our final book pick of season 2. This month the brothers read Joe's final pick, Hyperion by Dan Simmons. An epic sci-fi that not only won the Hugo in 1989, but also the brothers' hearts. Alex really knows how to cut this one down to the wire. He was enjoying this book so much that he didn't finish it until days before we needed to air the episode. To make it a tighter crunch, this is possibly the longest episode we have ever recorded. Luckily, Joe skipped all his grad school homework to make sure this episode made it out on time for all of you fans. We don't want to disappoint you guys.   Your welcome.   Next month, there will be no book. Instead Alex and Joe will be doing the season 2 wrap up, discussing how this season went and where we hope to take it next season. And in that same vain, we have almost gotten 1000 downloads this year! So, give us a hand and get us over that mark before January. That would be amazing. In this fantastic discussion, Haley has come back to join Joe to talk about her all-time favorite book. Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teaching of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer has become one of those late bloomers of books that everyone is talking about. And for good reason. We get a little hippy-dippy at times, but this book is not only worth reading, but talking about with everyone. Haley and Joe bring many of their personal stories of adventures in nature to add in with Robin's amazing tales.    A quick note from the editor: We apologize for the audio quality on this one. Between mics not working, recording in an echo-ey location where other people are walking in and out of, and the pickups randomly not picking up when the pair of hosts get excited and talk over each other, we had to soldier through. Haley, as always was a champ as we worked out some of the technical issues. But, the show had to go on, as Haley was volunteering her precious time, and we did not want to waste a moment more. So, we hope that you are able to forgive us on this one, this episode is worth listening to. A lot of fantastic topics were covered; and we only scratched the surface of what could have been said.   Next month, Joe is getting to give his last pick of the season. He is also swinging for the fences with one of science fiction's greats. He has picked Hyperion by Dan Simmons. This book is ranked up there with the Dune series, Culture series, or the Foundation series. So, a heavy hitter for sure. We will be posting our discussion for this one on December 5th, so make sure you have it marked in your calendars.    Just as a reminder, we post twice monthly. On the 5th we post our book of the month. Alex has given us the opportunity to read his favorite book of all time with him. This is his last pick of season two, and he wanted to go out with a bang. The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde is a true classic that is still poignant and relevant in today's society. So, buckle up and let's enjoy the ride of a story that has given us one of the world's most recognizable characters.   Next month, Joe is getting to give his last pick of the season. Poor poor Becky. Joe has cornered her and demanded that she sit through a review of a book he knew he would hate.  That's right. The long anticipated book review of The Butcher Game by Alaina Urquhart. Sadly, Alex and Becky refused to buddy read the book with Joe. It was a painful read, but someone had to do it. And Joe certainly enjoys the pain... So please sit back and enjoy sharing that pain Joe endured for your entertainment, just like he did with Becky. Listen to why they believe it is a bad book and what recommendations they have for the third book in the series.   Next month will be Alex's last pick of the season. And he picked a special one to him. It is his proclaimed favorite book of all time. And if we are being honest, it is a classic. Alex will be having us all read A Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. So, make sure you have subscribed and marked it in your calendar so you don't miss it. That will be dropping on November 5th.   Just as a reminder, we post twice monthly. On the 5th we post our book of the month. And we're back! With another book review.   This month Alex and Joe discuss a Joe pick. We read The Wanting Seed by Anthony Burgess. Yes. The guy that wrote A Clockwork Orange. Our first repeat author. Not the author either of us would have picked for jumping back to. But here we are. And some good news. We will have a bonus episode for this month. A Monster Calls Book Review

A Monster Calls Book Review

2025-09-0501:29:44

Alex has picked a powerful book for this month. We read A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. It is a middle school read with lots of pictures that are stunning and add to the text amazingly. A book truly worth reading. Even the curmudgeon, Joe, was impressed with this book.    Next month Joe has picked a book that he doesn't love, but has had trouble forgetting. And really, isn't that what books are supposed to do? Stick with us in ways that we would never have expected? Joe will be having us all read The Wanting Seed by Anthony Burgess. Who would have guessed, the author who wrote A Clockwork Orange would be our first repeat author. Both brothers would have put money down for some of the more popular authors they have already covered... So, make sure you put down a notification for next month, so you don't forget to give it a listen. Joe and Alex have a super special bonus episode for everyone today. We had a fan request for a book, and we decided to combine the book with a movie critique.    The book (and movie) that we are covering today is, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson. A drug fueled ride of extremes that will make you sick with envy. Or make you want to puke with all the excess. Either way, we hope that you enjoy our discussion. In the comments on Spotify, give us some more book to movie comparisons you might enjoy. Alex and Joe will do their best to get to them.   Next month the brothers are covering the moving and iconic book A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. It is a can't miss kind of book. So mark it in your calendars, September 5th, the episode will be airing.    Just as a reminder, we post twice monthly. On the 5th we post our book of the month. Joe is back to torturing everyone again with his memoirs. He swears this one is better though. Alex may need some convincing. This month the brothers read Let's Pretend this Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir by Jenny Lawson. It is a rip-roaring life to be shared, full of mental illness, awkward childhoods, and things that can only happen in Texas. (Just a note from Alex: DO NOT LISTEN TO THE AUDIOBOOK!!! Seriously. It's bad.)   Next month, Alex is picking one of his favorite books of all time. Let's see if Joe is able to tear down another book and trample all over his feelings. Alex has picked, A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. That will be coming out on September 5th. So make sure you mark the date on your calendar, it's bound to be a special one. Please make sure to subscribe so that you never miss an episode. And please be active listeners and comment and rate on how you think we are doing. All the details below.   Please help us grow this podcast. The more listeners we get the more we can do. Becky is joining the show again for this latest edition of bonus episodes! She has a new favorite book to talk about, The Trouble with Heroes by Kate Messner. This is an exciting book for young adult and middle school readers. So listen in and see what all the fuss is about.    I do need to apologize for the audio quality on this one. This was a last minute recording and editing thing. A few other episodes that the brothers had hoped to have recorded already, have not come to fruition. Joe will work much harder in the future to speak into the mic and at a volume that the mic can actually pick up.    Next month Joe has picked another memoir. A truly hilarious book by a woman that became famous from her blogging about her wacky life. We will be reading Let's Pretend This Never Happened (A Mostly True Memoir) by Jenny Lawson. (A little bit of a spoiler, if you are reading along with us on this, we recommend avoiding the audio book...)   Just as a reminder, we post twice monthly. On the 5th we post our book of the month. Joe has decided to make things a little more cheery for the readers after a few months of death and destruction. So he went the route of the cozy murder mystery. That's right, more death. This month we read Death on Demand by Carolyn Hart, the first book of the Death on Demand mystery series. So, lets jump into the cozy-verse and see how fun and relaxing murder really can be.   Next month, Alex has chosen to go back to the darker and grittier world of murder and mayhem. He has picked a graphic novel of great renown. From Hell by Alan Moore will be our first attempt to discussing the popular literary method of graphic novels. So make sure you don't miss it. It'll be out July 5th.    Just as a reminder, we post twice monthly. On the 5th we post our book of the month. In this month's bonus episode, Joe brings Becky back to talk about a book he got crazy excited about. Becky seems to think that Joe has found a new genre that he is becoming obsessed about. And Joe kinda agrees. In this episode, they will be discussing the book Endurance by Alfred Lansing. A book about an Antarctic exploration gone wrong.    Next month is a Joe pick. On the 5th of June, the brothers will be discussing Death on Demand by Carolyn Hart. So, make sure you hit the subscribe button so you don't miss out on the cozy verse.   Just as a reminder, we post twice monthly. On the 5th we post our book of the month. The Poppy War Book Review

The Poppy War Book Review

2025-05-0501:26:33

The month of May is Alex's shot in the dark pick. That pick that he has not read but heard good things. We read The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang. Neither brother had good feelings going in, and we weren't disappointed. Joe does whine a lot about books of this nature, while Alex does his best to defend it.    Next month Joe is going to change it up a bit. He is having the brothers adventure into the cozy mystery world for a little bit. He is going to be having all you that read along, reading Death on Demand by Carolyn Hart. So, buckle up, and get ready to be cozy! Bonus Episode: ACOTAR

Bonus Episode: ACOTAR

2025-04-2055:52

Alex and Becky have a very delightful chitchat over a popular book that still produces thousands of memes and videos on the internet. It is one of the most noted books to the new bookshelves of Romantacy and Fairy Smut. That's right, they are talking A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. So, buckle up and get ready to hear what two well read people think about the hype of such a popular series and book.   Next month, May, it will be Alex's turn to pick again. Alex has picked a book that both brothers are going into blind. So, stay tuned for how they will enjoy the very popular epic fantasy novel The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang. That will be out on the 5th next month.   Just as a reminder, we post twice monthly. On the 5th we post our book of the month. And on the 20th we will provide you lovely listeners with a bonus episode (as noted by Joe, the brothers are both becoming very busy with life, so this schedule may be changing; please stay tuned for any updates that they will be making). It is time again for a Joe pick. This month he has had his brother read a lesser known Frank Herbert novel. The White Plague came out about the same time as the 4th book in the famous Dune series. God Emperor of Dune blew off the Sci-fi shelves faster than a sandworm could swallow Harkonnens. This book not so much. That is not to say it is a "bad" book. But you'll have to listen to the brothers discuss as to why it may have missed the mark. Joe has a bone to pick. A rant to make. And poor Alex has to suffer for it. Not only is he forced to participate in this conversation, Joe forced him to have to read this horribly dreadful book. That's right. The brothers read the 2024 Hugo winning book, Some Desperate Glory by Emily Tesh. Listen in as they discuss the reasons why they think this book should never have even been in the discussion for what was once such a prestigious award for Science Fiction and Fantasy. If you have read this book, and either agree with the brothers or especially disagree, please comment and let them know. They would really love your feedback on this one. What did they miss!?   Next month for their book club pick, Joe has us all reading The White Plague by Frank Herbert. Yes that Frank Herbert that gave us the most popular science fiction book of all time, Dune. Let's see if what the brothers think of his lesser known work; if it lives up to the name of such an acclaimed author. That episode will be dropping on April 5th, so keep your eyes open for that.   Just as a reminder, we post twice monthly. On the 5th we post our book of the month. And on the 20th we will provide you lovely listeners with a bonus episode. Please make sure to subscribe so that you never miss an episode. We are in an Alex book pick month. And he decided on a nice cozy young adult fantasy. The two brothers (and hopefully you!) read Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones. A story about Sophie, a young shop girl, oldest of three sisters, who is cursed with old age by the Witch of the West.   April is back to a Joe pick month. We will be making the large jump from fantasy to science fiction. Joe has picked the lesser known novel of the most famous sci-fi author of all times. We will be reading The White Plague by Frank Herbert. So mark it in your calendars so you don't miss this show.   Just as a reminder, we post twice monthly. On the 5th we post our book of the month.
