The boys recap some recent events including a spartan obstacle course race and running the Murph (and obviously how doing hard stuff like that makes you a savage). Then they dive into the good stuff and discuss work-life balance and how it could either be a scam, robbing you of your dreams, or the only thing standing in your way of achieving them. And how the key to answering that question may lie hidden in the beautiful harmonies of art and music. They examine how the contrast that creates art, is the very same contrast that creates the fabric of reality itself. Basically, the artistic process of moving from dissonance to harmony is the very same process that can move your life from shambles and chaos to achievement and awesomeness! So buckle up, listen up, and level up. Here we go.
Second interview in the books! This time with a member of the RDA (Ritual Discomfort Adventures) community that Alec met while adventuring across South Africa. Jason is a South African Information Systems Post-Graduate by day and a killer mixed martial artist by night, exemplifying the delicate tightrope of training both the mind and body in modern life. Truly a Stoic of the modern times. In this interview we dive into the surprising overlaps of stoicism and eastern philosophy, as well as their applications to modern life and beyond. The shared experience of martial arts by both Jason and Alec provides a compelling backdrop for the underlying principles to be explored. This is one to listen to front to back, packed full of compelling wisdom from unexpected places. This episode was recorded as a discussion at the RDA retreat, and unfortunately, the video was not able to be used for this conversation. That being said the audio is more than enough heat to keep you warm at night! As a true man of mystery, Jason is a rare sight to see on the internet, but if I was a betting man, your best chances would be had on Instagram, at @jason.stamp Thank you again for the wisdom you shared in this enlightening conversation, Jason.
Alec is still chillin' in South Africa, so we catch up with him to hear about his adventures and the things he's experienced following the Ritual Discomfort Adventures retreat, including a historical monument dedicated to early Dutch Pioneers called the Voortrekker. From there the conversation evolves to discuss some different perspectives on pioneering success in your own life through goal setting, decision making filters, and how to decide which goals are actually worthy of your time and effort. Basically, a true masterclass on how to decide what you want to be when you grow up. Have fun.
Today we have our first guest on the podcast: PC Pelser from South Africa! PC is one of the founders of Ritual Discomfort Adventures, a retreat focused on personal growth through doing hard things. They believe that by regularly stepping outside our comfort zones and learning how to overcome challenges, we become better prepared to face the inevitable adversities in everyday life. In this interview we discuss the whats, whys, and hows of the event as well as how strategically implementing ritual discomfort into your life could be a huge unlock to productivity, resilience, and more. We also talk about some of the benefits and challenges to living in South Africa, from daily life to political turmoil. This episode was recorded remotely, video chat style, because ya boy Alec flew out to South Africa to attend the retreat in person! If you would like to connect with PC on the ol’ interwebs or learn more about Ritual Discomfort Adventures, here’s where you can find them!
