We dive into the new features from Apple Podcasts: automated chapters and timed links. Apple is generating these automatically, though you can opt out. Learn how to add your own chapters using time codes in the description or the podcast:chapters tag. We also examine Apple’s style guide, which suggests including at least three chapters and spelling out numbers. Crucially, the new timed links are restricted to linking only to Apple products such as Apple Music, Apple Maps, and Apple Books. Tune in for details on utilizing or disabling these updates! This episode details how to eliminate filler words—crutches like “um” and “ah”—to sound more professional in your public speaking and podcast. Strategies include becoming aware of the filler words you use, replacing them with intentional silence and pauses, and slowing your speaking down so your brain can keep up. Prepare your main points and transitions well, and practice out loud, perhaps turning off the red recording light to ease anxiety. Welcome to Podcast Answers! This episode explores Elgato’s new beta virtual Stream Deck software. Unlockable if you own a physical Stream Deck, it lets you create a customizable virtual deck. Ideal for keys you don’t want accidentally hit, it offers dynamic display and profiles. While not physical, it adds useful extra keys, great for travel with smaller units. Next, we focus on optimal podcast sound quality, stressing consistency. Elements cover microphone technique and room acoustics. Mic technique includes: Maintain consistent distance (6-12 inches, 3-4 fingers), use a 45-degree angle to avoid plosives, use a stand, avoid noise, control breathing, and use a pop filter. Room acoustics: Address reflections from hard surfaces. A treated space using soft materials creates a desirable “dead” environment. Managing mic gain minimizes room noise. In this episode, we discuss essential yearly tasks to ensure your podcast stays relevant, engaging, and successful. These tasks will help your show look and sound its best. We’ll cover a range of important activities, including: Developing a content calendar: Plan your episodes, themes, guest appearances, and special events in advance. This will help you maintain a consistent schedule and avoid last-minute content scrambles. Use tools like Notion to plan your content and put them on a calendar. Consider taking a retreat with your co-host to plan episodes. Conducting listener surveys: Gather feedback on content performance, areas of improvement, and what your listeners want to hear. Use tools like SurveyMonkey or website plugins to easily create and distribute surveys. Ask specific questions about content preferences, such as video, audio, and specific topic areas. Reviewing your marketing strategy: Explore new platforms or methods to reach a wider audience. Consider options such as paid advertising, appearing on other podcasts, or engaging on new social media platforms. Decide if you will change your posting schedule and how you will engage your audience. Updating your branding: Ensure your website and social media reflect any changes in your podcast’s branding or content focus. Check your logo, cover art, and color schemes for consistency. Be sure to check how your website appears when shared to make sure your branding is correct. Performing software and hardware maintenance: Keep your equipment and software up to date to avoid potential problems. Regularly update your website hosting, plugins, and other software. Analyzing financial performance: Review your expenses, revenue, and potential monetization strategies. Create a budget for the upcoming year, considering costs for marketing, equipment, and hosting services. Networking and collaboration: Identify events and conferences where you can connect with other podcasters and professionals in your niche. Make sure to include these costs in your budget. Investing in skill development: Enhance your podcasting abilities by taking courses or workshops that cover areas such as on-mic presentation, audio editing, and marketing. By addressing these tasks, you can ensure your podcast remains engaging, successful, and fun to produce. Remember, these tasks can be done at the beginning of the year, or even every six months, to keep your podcast fresh and up to date. Need Help? Do you need help with podcasting?
