Bye Sweet Carole is a narrative-horror platformer, set in a world inspired by classic animated films. Teenage girl Lana is distraught, searching for her missing friend Carole Simmons, when she discovers some surprising news. She is in fact the princess of the far-off magical land of Corolla... and she is in mortal danger. Guide Lana through perilous situations and help her escape from the evil Mr. Kyn and investigate the secrets of Bunny Hall, all while she continues to search for her friend.
In episode 58 of No Small Games, we're diving into Bye Sweet Carole, one of our most anticipated games of 2025. Kate and Emily discuss the visual style and whether the developers pulled of the classic Disney-esque style. You'll find out how Kate fared playing a horror game with SO many bunnies, given her deep fear of rabbits. This game was a wild ride and so is this episode!

Fa la la la la la la la let's GO GAMERS!! It's Christmas time!
It's the most wonderful time of the year!! No, not Summer Game Fest! It's time for the winter holidays and we've wrapped up a very special holiday episode to put under everyone's tree this year. The No Small Games girlies got together with the Crossplay Conversations crew for a very special indie game White Elephant party! All six of us came with a surprise indie game (or two) that we thought the group would enjoy. We had a blast choosing gifts to unwrap, choosing gifts to STEAL, and getting into the holiday spirit!
We hope this episode will be a festive addition to your winter holiday plans! And most of all, we're wishing peace, joy and rest to all our listeners as 2025 comes to a close. Thank you for spending part of your year with us. We'll see you for the December roundup on New Year's Eve!

In Stars and Time is a time loop RPG from insertdisc5, that follows a ragtag found-family of adventurers, at the very end of their long quest to defeat The King. You play as Siffrin, the party's rogue, as they try to piece together why they find themselves stuck living out the same day over and over again. The writing is heartfelt and at times heartbreaking, the characters are charming, and the game features a strangely addictive system for turn-based combat.
Thank you for tuning in to episode 54!! In this episode, Kate and Emily are joined by special guest Rachel Watts, to talk about this fascinating time loop experience. But before they dive into the game, the three have lots of guinea pig and indie game related topics to discuss! It was truly a joy to have Rachel on the show and we hope you love this episode as much as we do!

Fear the Spotlight is a retro-inspired survival horror game and the debut game from Cozy Game Pals and Blumhouse Games. This is a very special horror title because Cozy Game Pals went into making it with the intention of creating something that would be accessible to a wide range of ages. To do this, they omitted the use of any jumpscares or gore and relied on the building of tension to create fear. Players join high school students Vivian and Amy, as they break into their school library to try to contact the spirit world. They thought getting caught by a teacher and getting detention would be the worst thing that might happen, but little did they know the stakes were so much higher.
In episode 53 of No Small Games, we're celebrating Halloween a little early with this horror title! You'll hear Kate and Emily discuss their experiences with the stealth-focused gameplay and the tactile puzzles. They also dig into the parallel stories taking place during this harrowing night at the high school, and find out whether this jumpscare-free game hit in terms of its fear factor. We hope you have a shockingly good time with this one!! Mwahahaha...

Sorry We're Closed, developed by à la mode games, is a narrative-focused survival horror game that pits angels and demons alike against the greatest force of all: true love. Our protagonist Michelle sets off on a dangerous journey to take down a powerful demon who has set their eyes on her. This game brings a combination of choices matter storytelling with arcade-style FPS combat for a truly unique and vibey horror experience.
In episode 52 of No Small Games, we're digging into every corner of Sorry We're Closed. Kate and Emily go in-depth on their likes and dislikes when it comes to the combat mechanics and sound design. The conversation also gets a bit philosophical when it comes to the story and questions of the true nature of love. This is a one-of-a-kind game and conversation, and we hope you love the episode!

Many Nights a Whisper, developed by Deconstructeam and Selkie Harbour, is an interactive narrative experience, exploring ideas around dreams and the pressure of expectation. You play as Dreamer, a young person who has been raised for one duty: to shoot a slingshot to light a ceremonial chalice and make or break the dreams of your community for the next 10 years. Many Nights a Whisper combines third person shooting and visual novel style gameplay. Each night after practicing her shot, Dreamer holds Confession to hear her community's wishes and determines which will be granted or rejected, should she make her ceremonial shot.
In episode 51 of No Small Games, Kate and Emily discuss their experience of this brief but beautiful and unique game. You'll hear them describe their experiences as they practiced shooting their shot. The two share their personal thought processes as they considered whether to grant or reject the community's wishes. This is an especially deep and philosophical discussion, and we hope this episode and the game (which you should absolutely go play) give your minds lots to chew on as we kick off our fall season!

Keep Driving, developed and published by YCJY Games, is a management RPG with turn-based combat, and the thickest of vibes. You play as a young person, heading out onto the open road in your trusty car, traveling across the country to meet your friend at a music festival. Along the way, you encounter every facet of life: the good, the bad, and the surprising. You can pick up hitchhikers, take on odd jobs, refill at gas stations, and explore both small roadside towns and big cities. But along the way you have to face off against all manner of road events. Luckily you've also got a car stereo and your CD playlists by your side.
In episode 49 of No Small Games, Kate and Emily dive into their own personal experiences of road trips, and how these align with the gameplay of Keep Driving. You'll hear their thoughts on the many mechanics of this turn-based combat system, and discuss their thoughts on the vehicle-oriented UI. But best of all, if you tune into the spoiler section, you'll find out how Kate wound up with the "go to jail" ending.

Until Then, developed by Polychroma Games and published by Maximum Entertainment, is a narrative adventure set in a beautiful pixel-art world inspired by the modern day Philippines. You play as Mark, a high school student who is doing his best to keep up with school, life and his friendships while his parents are both working abroad. In Episode 48 of No Small Games, Kate and Emily are joined by Jared Moss, co-host of the Play Along Podcast. Wanderstop, developed by Ivy Road, is a narrative cozy game that follows main character Alta on her journey to understand why her body and mind will no longer cooperate with her on her mission to be the best fighter in the world. She finds herself in a clearing in the forest, sitting on a bench with Boro, the owner of the Wanderstop tea shop. Players will accompany Alta as she makes tea, gets to know whimsical and strange customers, and attempts to understand the conflicts within herself.
In episode 46 of No Small Games, Kate and Emily discuss how Wanderstop stacks up as an example of the cozy management sim genre, and their impressions of the unique pacing of the game. You'll also hear the hosts' very different and very personal experiences of burnout and healing. Of course, the discussion wouldn't be complete without answering the most important question of all: which was your favorite tea mug? We hope you love this very emotional episode and the start to our summer season!
