Ny-Asia’s story is really heartfelt, simple and beautiful. She is a first time mother who made the choice to birth her baby free of the medical system. In her early teens, Ny-Asia said that she had to self mother as she was growing up, but that didn’t deter her from wanting to have children of her own.In her 30’s Ny-Asia took trip to Colombia and learned from Indigenous Midwives in various healing ways. One of them, while there, even felt the spirit of her daughter before she had even conceived. There were many instances that Ny-Asia knew her child’s spirit was with her and in hindsight, she even saw the visioning of her daughter’s birth in a recurring dream many times before. And then the time came for Ny-Asia’s birth to unfold, she was supported by her partner, her friend and was serenaded so lovingly by her friend’s young daughter with singing bowls at the emergence of her daughter. This story was so lovely to hear with Ny-Asia’s bright and cheery attitude towards her life and her birth choices. Have a listen to her words because this is a story, like all others, that is meant to be heard.✦Give a 5 STAR RATING and REVEIW on Apple PodcastsGive a 5 STAR RATING on Spotify-FOLLOW Freebirthing in Color ™ on Instagram @Freebirthing_inColorReach out via email: FreebirthingInColor@hotmail.com-Send a DONATION to support the Movement-SUBMIT Your Birth StorySUBMIT Your Women’s Work-Connect with your HostFOLLOW Karma on Instagram @Primal_Woman_Check Out What's Happening in the Movement-✨New Stories Every Thursday!✨-Connect with our Guest, Ny-AsiaInstagram: @Sunniemama Email: birthofaphoenixdoula@gmail.com
Today my conversation is with Chantice. I’m so pleased to have spoken with Chantice because it’s been a while since I’ve heard a story from a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) mother. Chantice is a mother of 2 who experienced an unnecessary cesarean with her first and then went on to birth her second baby vaginally in the comfort of her own home!Chantice speaks to me of how she went into her first experience of becoming a mother at a fairly young age, having no knowledge of pregnancy or birth. This led to a very unsupported and lacking birth experience within a hospital setting and ultimately receiving the label of “failure to progress” and having a cesarean.Shortly after that experience, Chantice spent 2 years educating herself, becoming connected with a supportive birth community in her town and mentally, emotionally and spiritually healing from her first birth. When it came time for Chantice to navigate the pregnancy and birth journy of her second child, she had no fear and was well prepped and supported by those that love her dearly. She birthed her daughter in the comfort of her home with her partner, a wise Traditional Midwife and her son all present. This is such a heart warming story of a woman who did what was necessary for her to find the courage, the knowledge and the strength to birth in the way she always knew she could.✦Give a 5 STAR RATING and REVEIW on Apple PodcastsGive a 5 STAR RATING on Spotify-FOLLOW Freebirthing in Color ™ on Instagram @Freebirthing_inColorReach out via email: FreebirthingInColor@hotmail.com-Send a DONATION to support the Movement-SUBMIT Your Birth StorySUBMIT Your Women’s Work-Connect with your HostFOLLOW Karma on Instagram @Primal_Woman_Check Out What's Happening in the Movement-✨New Stories Every Thursday!✨-Connect with our Guest, ChanticeInstagram: @ZenwithChan Tiktok: ZenwithChan1Facebook: ZenwithChanYoutube: ZenwithChan -Resources:Traditional Midwife, Kemi: @KemiBirthJoyJohnson
Today, you’ll hear 4 completely different pregnancy and birth stories from Elisha. Each one of her pregnancy and births carries such powerful energy, I was amazed at all of the experiences Elisha had in each of her very profound journeys. To start it off, Elisha was pregnant with her first in her early 20’s having this pregnancy be infused with tribal West Indies music and dance and also the adventure of walking across the province of Ontario for Eagle Dance. She had an accidental medically unassisted birth, even though she did hire medical midwives to be her birth support, but they didn’t arrive until after her daughter was born.Elisha’s second pregnancy and birth experiences were completely different than her first, including having a full term baby that was under 5lbs and spending a night in the local hospital. In Elisha’s third pregnancy, there was a lot of community, ceremony and joining with an Indigenous community to set the tone for this, again, very different and very wild pregnancy and birth experience. And lastly, Elisha’s fourth birth with a medical midwife attending and a birth within a hospital setting. The stories told by Elisha are all completely different and have shaped her into the woman and mother that she is today. Listen to the beautiful story medicine that she shares.*(please forgive the not so great sound quality in this story)*✦Give a 5 STAR RATING and REVEIW on Apple PodcastsGive a 5 STAR RATING on Spotify-FOLLOW Freebirthing in Color ™ on Instagram @Freebirthing_inColorReach out via email: FreebirthingInColor@hotmail.com-Send a DONATION to support the Movement-SUBMIT Your Birth StorySUBMIT Your Women’s Work-Connect with your HostFOLLOW Karma on Instagram @Primal_Woman_Check Out What's Happening in the Movement-✨New Stories Every Thursday!✨-Connect with our Guest, ElishaInstagram: @mysticseed_Website: https://www.mysticseed.ca
Today, I l have a conversation with LuAn, who speaks to me about breastfeeding. Also a really lovely connection between the two of us is that we are both of Haitian Lineage.LuAn’s own birth, a traumatic cesarean with her son, really sparked the fire for her to breastfeed him and was the catalyst that ignited her to deep dive into the necessities, advantages and passion for breastfeeding.LuAn is apart of the Radical Moms Union that goes against predatory formula companies that target the delicate breastfeeding relationship of the mother-baby dyad. Through her own journey of breastfeeding and learning about the benefits of this for her child, LuAn has made it a big part of her life to share this knowledge, especially to women of color and black women who have an even harder time being supported in creating the breastfeeding relationships with their children.Listen to this wonderful informative talk that I have with LuAn about the most natural and normal feeding experience a mother can have with her child. ✦Give a 5 STAR RATING and REVEIW on Apple PodcastsGive a 5 STAR RATING on Spotify-FOLLOW Freebirthing in Color ™ on Instagram @Freebirthing_inColorReach out via email: FreebirthingInColor@hotmail.com-Send a DONATION to support the Movement-SUBMIT Your Birth StorySUBMIT Your Women’s Work-Connect with your Host:FOLLOW Karma on Instagram @Primal_Woman_Check Out What's Happening in the Movement-✨New Stories Every Thursday!✨-Connect with our Guest, LuAnInstagram: @Luan.unboubd -Resources:Radical Moms Union: @Radical_Moms_Union https://www.radicalmomsunion.org/
I’m speaking with Jenn today and her story is a brave journey of re-establishing her identity from the way she previous led it, more liberated and free to holding commitment for what her future was asking for.Jenn had to go through the process of figuring out who the father of her baby was and dealing with big feelings of frustrations and anger at the men who potentially got her pregnant.Later, after being diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder at 8 months pregnant, Jenn was able to find a sense of relief and a deeper understanding for how she was previous living her life. When the time to birth her baby was coming near, Jenn was dealing with a lot of instability and had to move her birth plans multiple times until it was all revealed in the end.Jenn, is a first time mother who made the very courageous choice to birth her baby free of the medical system even when it seemed like everything was going against her and I’m so proud of Jenn for speaking her story to me. ✦Give a 5 STAR RATING and REVEIW on Apple PodcastsGive a 5 STAR RATING on Spotify-FOLLOW Freebirthing in Color ™ on Instagram @Freebirthing_inColorReach out via email: FreebirthingInColor@hotmail.com-Send a DONATION to support the Movement-SUBMIT Your Birth StorySUBMIT Your Women’s Work-Connect with your HostFOLLOW Karma on Instagram @Primal_Woman_Check Out What's Happening in the Movement-✨New Stories Every Thursday!✨-Connect with our Guest, JennDoula Instagram: @emancipatedbirth Personal Instagram: @gomamajenn
This is a beautiful conversation that I have with Aaliyah. She speaks to me about how she bonded very deeply with her aunts baby and how she always knew that motherhood was in her future. When becoming pregnant with her first, Aaliyah chose to have hospital Midwifery care, but once she was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes (GD) she was soon switched to Obstetric care.Leading up to Aaliyah’s first birth experience she was feeling very forced to have an induction at 39 weeks, but held her ground until 41 weeks. When she did agree to the induction, it took 4 days for her baby to finally emerge and she was pressured into an unnecessary epidural 2 hours before her baby was born.Aaliyah’s second pregnancy was with twins! and she chose once again, to also seek support of medical providers like her first. And to my surprise, Aaliyah birthed both of her babies vaginally in the hospital setting, which is quite unheard of in most twin births. For her third pregnancy and birth, Aaliyah chose a birthing centre, which led to trauma and a very difficult postpartum experience that included a mental health crisis. Then finally with her fifth baby, Aaliyah made the choice to birth this baby with only family in attendance. This is a story of a woman’s trust and courage in herself to make the best decisions for herself and her children and the evolution that she went on to get there.✦Give a 5 STAR RATING and REVEIW on Apple PodcastsGive a 5 STAR RATING on Spotify-FOLLOW Freebirthing in Color ™ on Instagram @Freebirthing_inColorReach out via email: FreebirthingInColor@hotmail.com-Send a DONATION to support the Movement-SUBMIT Your Birth StorySUBMIT Your Women’s Work-Connect with your HostFOLLOW Karma on Instagram @Primal_Woman_Check Out What's Happening in the Movement-✨New Stories Every Thursday!✨
This is a very special and important conversation with Hadhee Jah who is one of the only Ayurvedic Postpartum Doulas and Traditional Birthkeepers in and from the Maldives.Hadhee Jah’s first birth experience was truly beautiful, but without having the knowledge of how to care for herself and be cared for in postpartum, she went into a really dark space in this time. Her second postpartum time was also really hard, even though she was very well supported. Then, following Hadhee Jah’s second birth, this is when she started learning about Ayurvedic Postpartum Care and it’s importance for healing after birth. This conversation speaks to the necessity of a well supported postpartum and how that can be possible when you know what is needed to thrive after birth. And Hadhee Jah speaks so gracefully about the lost art of Midwifery in her home country of the Maldives.Listen to this story with an open heart as the Art of True Midwifery is being stolen from all women and stories like Hadhee Jah’s are so important to be shared.✦Give a 5 STAR RATING and REVEIW on Apple PodcastsGive a 5 STAR RATING on Spotify-FOLLOW Freebirthing in Color ™ on Instagram @Freebirthing_inColorReach out via email: FreebirthingInColor@hotmail.com-Send a DONATION to support the Movement-SUBMIT Your Birth StorySUBMIT Your Women’s Work-Connect with your Host:FOLLOW Karma on Instagram @Primal_Woman_Check Out What's Happening in the Movement-✨New Stories Every Thursday!✨-Connect with our Guest, HadheejahInstagram: @hadheejahbirthkeeper Website: https://hadheejahbirthkeeper.com
This is a really special episode for me to have recorded. When I spoke with Haniyyah, she was the first woman that I had interview for this movement in 1 year! So my excitement was palpable and it felt like a beautiful homecoming. But I have to say that I was so honoured to share space with Haniyyah and hear her words. She speaks to me about how she is the youngest of 10 kids in a blended family and how she was very involved within the lives of her nieces and nephews are they started to become new additions to the family system. For her first birth, Haniyyah started in obstetric care, but shortly switched to Midwifery care and felt so much more supported by her choice. Haniyyah was the first of her family to birth her baby at home after many generations of women birthing in the hospital. After integrating her first birth and already having previous knowledge of birthing free of the system, Haniyyah started to have the feelings that birthing in this way would be what she wanted. Through reaching out to a few friends and finding resources to support her decision to birth her second free of the system, that is what Haniyya did.Listen to her words as she speaks to the journey of birthing her baby into the world in the way she knew she her body was designed to do.✦Give a 5 STAR RATING and REVEIW on Apple PodcastsGive a 5 STAR RATING on Spotify-FOLLOW Freebirthing in Color ™ on Instagram @Freebirthing_inColorReach out via email: FreebirthingInColor@hotmail.com-Send a DONATION to support the Movement-SUBMIT Your Birth StorySUBMIT Your Women’s Work-Connect with your HostFOLLOW Karma on Instagram @Primal_Woman_Check Out What's Happening in the Movement-✨New Stories Every Thursday!✨-Connect with our Guest, HaniyyahInstagram: @haniyyahlovessyou -ResourcesChantel Blake: @honoredwomb Listen to Chantel Birth Story: “Ep. 25 — I’m not going to Betray Myself Anymore”Birth E-book: @blossomingnadia
This is a very special story that I get to hear from Tracy and one you don’t want to miss out on. She is a birth worker and a healer that offers fertility, birth, postpartum, grief, lactation education and sleep consulting support. She is a woman with many skills and this conversation with Tracy really shows her dedication to bringing healing to the mother/baby dyad and the whole family in the entirety of the Matrescence journey.Through the birth of her first child, it propelled Tracy deeper into the field of birthwork. She was able to see what could have been better for her care and how she would be able to provide what women and families truly needed for supportive and continual care in their sacred time of pregnancy, birth and parenthood. This talk is so powerful and Tracy gives so many beautiful insights and downloads into the work she does and how it effects not only herself, but all women.I’m so grateful to have shared space with Tracy and for her words and work to be amplified in this space. ✦Give a 5 STAR RATING and REVEIW on Apple PodcastsGive a 5 STAR RATING on Spotify-FOLLOW Freebirthing in Color ™ on Instagram @Freebirthing_inColorReach out via email: FreebirthingInColor@hotmail.com-Send a DONATION to support the Movement-SUBMIT Your Birth StorySUBMIT Your Women’s Work-Connect with your HostFOLLOW Karma on Instagram @Primal_Woman_Check Out What's Happening in the Movement-✨New Episodes Every Thursday!✨-Connect with our Guest, TracyInstagram: @bobotodoula Website: https://www.bobotodoula.com/doulaservices
This is such a fun conversation that I have today with Zakiya. Her energy is so vibrant and speaking with her brought such joy to my heart. Zakiya shares about her decision to birth with a Traditional Midwife, a truly Wise Woman, for her first baby and how she came to this very aligned and powerful decision for herself. She made sure that she was informed and researched her choices to birth her baby in her total power, free of the system and that is what she did!I absolutely loved hearing Zakiya’s words and how she tells her story. She was honoured in her authority and truly was respected and held in reverence by her Traditional Midwife and Doula, so please sit back and listen to this woman stepping into her power to birth her baby.✦Give a 5 STAR RATING and REVEIW on Apple PodcastsGive a 5 STAR RATING on Spotify-FOLLOW Freebirthing in Color ™ on Instagram @Freebirthing_inColorReach out via email: FreebirthingInColor@hotmail.com-Send a DONATION to support the Movement-SUBMIT Your Birth StorySUBMIT Your Women’s Work-Connect with your HostFOLLOW Karma on Instagram @Primal_Woman_Check Out What's Happening in the Movement-✨New Episodes Every Thursday!✨-Connect with our Guest, ZakiyaInstagram: @ZestyZakiya Email: Zakiya.N.Hawkings@gmail.com-Resources from the TalkDocumentary: Calling in the Spirit Research: The History of GynaecologyBook: Real Food for Pregnancy by Lily Nichols

This is such a wonderful interview that I have with Kiyana, who speaks to both of her birthing experiences. The conversation gets rolling right away with Kiyana’s beautiful understanding and gratitude for her first birth experience and how it shaped the way her second baby was brought into the world.
In this conversation, Kiyana dives into:
*Being the only girl in a family of 6 children and taking on the role of Matriarch quite soon
*Meeting her partner and getting pregnant, then having to navigate HG in that first pregnancy
*Taking castor oil, on her own accord, which caused her to become dehydrated and transferring for fluids
*Transitioning from 4cm to 9cm after receiving fluids at the hospital and birthing her baby easefully with positive support from the medical staff
*Suspecting she was pregnant with her second baby when her milk supply started to dry up around 9 months postpartum
*Knowing that this second baby would be born at home, so she could have the birth that she truly wanted
*Leaning into the trust that everything would work out for her and being deeply connected to gratitude before she began her birth process
*Moving through a pleasurable birthing experience and birthing her baby while standing at the bathroom sink
*and a quick little chat about the importance of sharing the stories of black women birthing in their power!
Kiyana’s story is amazing proof that you can create the birth experience that you want by accepting, trusting and holding gratitude for all that you are doing in those moments and that birthing in pleasure is completely possible.

My conversation today is with Kaelya. She’s a woman who chose to birth her first child free of the medical system in a Hotel. Unfortunately Kaeyla’s mothering journey began, not through a pregnancy, but at a very young age as a result of the sexual assault she experienced as a child.
In this conversation Kaeyla shares how she began coming into the healing of her past traumas and made the space to bring this child forth. She speaks about:
* Seeking community and the structure of re-villaging and how it’s needed
*How travelling in her early 30’s brought healing and the integrations of decolonization to her life
*Finding out she was pregnant and immediately knowing that going to the doctor wasn’t something that she wanted to do
*Having the awareness that her medicinal Cannabis usage would be red-flagged if she entered into the medical system, so that brought confirmation as to her choice to birth free of the system
*Seeking community and having to find it online
*Going through the experience of thinking that her pregnancy released
*Choosing to birth in a Hotel instead of her 5th-wheel trailer, knowing that the experience of birth she was about to go through needed more physical space
*Intuitively asking her partner to pleasure her during her birthing experience
*Birthing her baby in the Hotel bathtub and rushing to get her placenta out
*Having a bit of difficulty with her breastfeeding journey
*and then going back to her 5th-wheel trailer as a new woman and mother!
This is such an incredible story that Kaeyla shares about her stepping into her truth and power, having full trust in herself and her body and being so lovingly supported by her partner to claim her voice and guide her baby into this world.
I also want to mention, if you’re seeking information and guidance on Cannabis usage during pregnancy, there are some resources within the show notes.

Nadine is a mother who birthed her first baby free of the medical system. She’s also a triplet, which I thought was such a cool piece of information and had to mention it.
Nadine grew up in Grew up in Ghana from the age of 5, so the values of community living and nurturing were very present in her life. In this conversation, she speaks about:
*Taking on the role of helping tend to her elder brother’s child at the age of 10 as this is a normal display within Ghanian community structures
*Growing up and knowing that what she wanted was to be a mother and looking into ways that she could make this possible
*Knowing exactly what she wanted for herself and then meeting a partner that was on the same page
*Getting pregnant and sharing her desire to birth with only her partner present, which lead to some preparation through watching birth videos, listening to podcasts and self study
*Having an experience with a Medical Midwife where she was completely ignored when she spoke of her want to possibly have a birth free of the system
*Flying to the UK around 33 weeks and taking care of her pregnancy on her own
*Nadine speaks to how her birth brought some healing to her mother’s birth and experience after having her triplets
*Being emotionally and mentally supported by her cousin who had also birthed one of her babies free of the medical system
*Navigating an 18 hour birth portal
*and experiencing a bit of difficulty during breastfeeding that was easily remedied by some infant bodywork
This was such a simple and gentle experience where Nadine was able to be in her power and surrender into having the exact birth that she needed in-order to mother her child in the way he wanted to be mothered.

Today, I’m here with Anjelika and at the timing of our talk, she was 1 month postpartum with her free-born baby! She speaks to me about many things, one of which, is how important it is for her to pass down Ancestral Traditions to her children in many different ways.
In this very lovely and wholesome conversation, Anjelika speaks to:
*Her relationship to hunting and how it’s deepening the relationship she and her family have to the Earth, to their bodies, and to the animals
*Coming into her first pregnancy right at the end of 2019 and knowing that she needed to protect her and her baby from what was beginning to happen in the next year
*Choosing to have a Medical Midwife support her first birth experience, which was largely online and over the phone
*Having her trust be betrayed when her Medical Midwife stripped her membranes at 36 weeks without consent
*Feeling herself shift into the beginnings of her birth portal at 38weeks during her Mother Blessing
*Birthing with 11 people present in the home and it becoming a sort of community event, where Anjelika could re-write the image of birth for the many people witnessing
*Processing her birth experience and being encouraged by friends to not downplay the trauma that she did feel from certain points in the journey
*Experiencing a pregnancy release at 6 weeks
*Anjelika speaks to a mystical experience of hunting a deer 1 month before conceiving her daughter
*Deepening into this new phase of her Mothering and letting go of her Maiden self for good
*Feeling the sensations of birth starting at 34 weeks
*Trusting her body when pieces of her amniotic sac were retained within the womb and released over 1 week later
*and Enjoying a nourishing postpartum time
I’m so honoured I was able to hear Anjelika speak to her powerful birth experience only 1 month after her baby was born. Her words are so pure and so beautifully express this amazing and redemptive birth that she was able to have.

Today, I’m speaking with Brittney. She is a woman that is doing wonderful work in service to womb consciousness.
She has such a gentle, yet powerful and expansive presence when she speaks to the work that she does and this conversation truly lit me up as I’m also so devoted to working with the womb.
Within this conversation we get into:
*Brittney beginning to develop her relationship to the earth as a young girl
*Her journey into finding her spirituality
*Her first experience of attending a women’s circle
*Creating containers of healing for bi-racial women
*and speaking to how each woman has such a different process when it comes to holding space for their womb work
I won’t get too into it because this is a conversation that has to be heard from the portal of Brittney herself, so get comfortable and listen to her words.
I also want to mention that if you’re listening to this episode on or around Aug 23 2024, Britt has just opened registration for the 4th cohort of Wise Womb Ways. The theme of this cohort is the ‘Elements of the Womb’ and this will be a 6 week group immersion into Womb Awakening.
Class starts on the Autumnal Equinox — September 22 2024 and this might be the last time Britt hosts WWW in a live journey before turning it into a self paced program. So if you want to spend some time with Britt in a sacred container, now is your chance! You can find out how to join in the show notes.

Fina is a mother of twins! Another type of story that I love to share and wish to have more of as the women that are birthing multiples free of the medical system need to be heard, so I’m extremely grateful to have hosted Fina in the space.
Throughout the conversation Fina speaks to:
*Being “diagnosed” as infertile at 14
*Studying music in West Africa and the healing power that music and its vibrations have
*Experiencing an early pregnancy release at 11 weeks and seeking medical care, but then being traumatized by everything that she went through
*Two years later getting pregnant again and having a pregnancy mostly out of the medical system
*Hiring Medical support to attend her birth and making sure that there were boundaries and rules in place
*Fina speaks to her 27hour birth portal and how the Medical support interfered greatly with her process generating a lot on unnecessary fear and trauma
*Getting pregnant 5 months postpartum with twins and navigating feelings of depression
*Moving back in with her mother because Fina needed more support and care
*Having some bleeding during the pregnancy and seeking care in the hospital, which turned out to be a mistake
*Telling her partner that she’d be birthing the twins at home with no medical provider
*then birthing her twins at 39+1 gestation in only 3 hours
*Having such a drastically different and more beautiful postpartum time after the birth of her twins
*And lastly how Fina’s birth of her twins created the catalyst for change in her country to make it easier for women who want to birth free of the medical system from that point forward
Fina’s choice to birth her babies in her power brought her so much healing from the traumas that were inflicted on her by the medical system and a woman masquerading as someone who trusts birth. And Fina’s story is just another example of when a woman leans into her power, she will always make the right decisions for herself and her children.
