In this month's Word Pantry segment, we’re opening up one small but rich word from Romans 8:28 — purpose. This episode is part of The Word Pantry, our monthly Week‑4 tradition where we take one word from Scripture and slice it open together. The Greek word prothesin means “to set forth” or “to arrange with intention,” the same word used for the shewbread placed before the Lord in the tabernacle. Nothing about it was random — and nothing in your life is either. We’ll walk through Romans 8:28 phrase by phrase, explore the shewbread connection, and see how God arranges every piece of our lives with deliberate care.If you’re carrying things that feel scattered or confusing, this episode will remind you that God is not guessing — He is arranging. This month’s Sisters in Service episode arrives right on schedule — the third week of every month — where we pause to look at the lives of ordinary women who loved the Lord and served Him with whatever they had. Some lived centuries ago, some lived in recent history, but all of them remind us that God has always used willing hearts.Printable resource to accompany this episode: https://buttermilkpie.gumroad.com/l/SISBettyStamFor February, our theme is “Poured Out for His Purpose,” and the life of Betty Scott Stam paints that picture with heartbreaking clarity and breathtaking faith. Born to missionary parents and called to serve from a young age, Betty lived with her hands open — surrendering her plans, her comforts, and ultimately her life to the One she trusted completely. In this episode, we walk through her story: her early calling, her marriage to fellow missionary John Stam, the birth of their baby girl, the rising dangers in China, and the courage she carried into the final hours of her life. From the outside, her story looks like tragedy. But through the lens of Romans 8:28, we see a God who weaves purpose through every thread — even the ones we would never choose.Betty’s life wasn’t long, but it was poured out. And her obedience still bears fruit nearly a century later. If you’re in a season of pouring out — or longing to trust God with the parts of your story that don’t make sense — pull up a chair at the kitchen counter. Betty’s life has something to say to us today. If you’d like a simple way to carry this month’s theme into your everyday rhythms, you can find the “Poured Out” Kit — with memory verse cards, a cozy recipe, and reflection tools — on my page. beacons.ai/buttermilkpie
This month we’re stepping into our March theme: Serving the Second Mile — the kind of obedience Jesus taught in Matthew 5:41. In this episode, we look at what “go with him twain” meant in Jesus’ world and why the second mile still matters for Christian women today. We talk about the difference between duty and devotion, how Roman law shaped this command, and why the second mile becomes worship when we do it with a willing heart. You’ll hear Scripture examples, stories of ordinary faithfulness, and simple ways this shows up in real life — in our homes, marriages, motherhood, and the hidden corners of our days.If you’re writing Scripture with us this month, your free March Scripture Writing Kit is waiting in your inbox and in the show notes here--> https://buttermilkpie.gumroad.com/l/secondmileA gentle, honest beginning to a month of learning how to live beyond what’s required — not because people deserve it, but because Jesus went the second mile for us.
In this season opener, I'm sharing the story behind the name The Buttermilk Pie Podcast and the heart behind this new season-encouraging women in the Lord through simple, honest truths. I’m sharing my plans for February, the themes we’ll walk through each week, and a re‑introduction to my “why” — encouraging women in the Lord.I talk about the first time I ever made a buttermilk pie, even though I hated buttermilk and was sure it would taste terrible. But curiosity (and the joy I saw in others) nudged me to try it. To my surprise, it was the easiest recipe I’d ever made… and absolutely delicious. That little pie became a picture of the Gospel for me: we often assume the things of the Lord are too hard, too sour, or too full of rules — until we finally “taste and see” that He is good. Salvation is simple, sweet, and far better than we expect.I also share a personal piece of my story: the traumatic birth of my son, and how the Lord gave me Romans 8:28 in the middle of it. He took the good, the bad, the sweet, and the sour, placed them in the heat of trial, and brought something beautiful out of it — something only He could do.If you’re new here, this episode is the perfect place to start. Pull up a chair, pour a cup of coffee, and let’s talk about the God who works all things together for good.If this episode encourages you, share it with a friend or leave a quick rating — it helps more women find the show.
This episode of Extra Ordinary uses the everyday blender as a picture of how God works in our lives — loud seasons, messy seasons, broken‑down seasons, and all. Through Romans 8:28 and stories from Joseph, Esther, and Job, we talk about how the Lord blends every ingredient — even the bitter ones — into His good purpose. If you’ve ever felt like your life was “in the blender,” this conversation will encourage you to trust the Cook, even when you can’t see the recipe.I’ve also included a printable resource page of verses you can turn to whenever life feels a little “in the blender.”Find it here and enter $0 and click "I want this!" to claim it for free!
