On this episode, the lines get drawn among Capt. Kevin and the Unusual Suspects – who loves them some January and February vs. who…not so much. Get the lowdown, compare it to the luck you’re having, and see which side you’re on! And listen in for the forecast, too…

One of the best things about the Outdoors Show is this: you can’t afford to miss a single episode, because you never know where the conversation’s going to go. Sure, the guys talk hunting and fishing, weather and outdoors gear…and food (always food!), but the chatter went ALL over the place, and it was a whole lot of fun!
Capt. Kevin revisited something he first brought up during the last episode of the Fishing Forecast: the one that got away. Crazy stories about the ones that didn’t quite make it to the boat…and a couple that actually did – and STILL got away!
Here’s your L.V. Hiers Inc gear tip of the week from Harley at CSS Fireplaces and Outdoor Living: If you have a boat with a live well, eventually you will have to change the pump. Instead of having to rewire everything switch out to JRready wire connectors. Makes it way easier to change out! Get them on Amazon for under $20.

Well, in case you didn’t notice…it’s officially January. Although everybody’s teeth are chattering, Capt. Kevin and the Unusual Suspects are actually feeling pretty good about fishing over the next few days. So bundle up, get tough, and get ready to catch some nice ones!

Jeff was out on OSR this week, so Capt. Kevin and Capt. Kirk got things going themselves this episode. But they didn’t end it that way – Capt. Paul Dozier joined them to talk a whole lot of fishing, including kingfishing (what else would the mastermind of the Old School talk about?) and naturally progressing into some really cool trolling talk.
They were talking offshore, and of course, when anybody talks about going offshore, the conversation shifts to sharks. Quite the interesting discussion ensued about how many are out there…and how much protection they really need.
Talked a little hunting, too…spawned by a very “interesting” story from a caller who caught a look at an intimate moment.
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Capt. Cory Sparks hooked up Capt. Kevin for Christmas with the Black Sierra 7″ Outdoor firepit. He’s been using it and burning all the pine cones. Perfect for doing s’mores, too! Get yours for under $30 on Amazon.
Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: Mark it in your calendar – The Jacksonville Boat Show is January 23 – 25. The Nimnicht Outdoors Show will be there live on Saturday morning. Come join us!

Capt. Kevin was off on some New Year’s OSR, but he checked in via the wonders of modern technology…to find Tru Luvin Fishing’s Domenic Paniccia sitting in his chair at the studio! As you can imagine, lots of fun and fishing talk ensued.
Capt. Kirk shared the audio of a pack of yotes going BONKERS on his property…and why? Because something was in there with them, and one of those seems to have met an untimely end thanks to the beast that growls at the end of the clip. What was it – a bear? panther? BIGFOOT?!?!?!?
Not sure what brought it up (maybe the New Year’s fireworks?), but the guys got to talking about flashlights and kicked around all kinds of recommendations. That led to this episode going really gear-heavy. Flashlights, artificial lures, knives…and more.
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Chris got the Handy Heater for Christmas this year. He was skeptical, but it really works! Cranks out the heat in a hurry, variable temp setting, auto shut-off, and a timer, too!
Facebook
The boys were back after some yuletide cheer to talk about the fun of the holidays and what was next up on the outdoors agenda. They got Capt. Kirk to talk about the INSANE haul he brought in the day before – lots of sheepshead and some of the biggest trout any of them had ever seen!
The guys talked about a lot of things, including more absurd fishing regulation talk, all kinds of stuff happening in the woods (bears, big cats and more), as well as potential names for Capt. Kevin’s new puppy, and all kinds of holiday food and fun talk.
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Mema’s No Bite Bug Spray works on those pesky gnats that have been awful with this warmer weather! It’s Available at ALL Hagan Ace Hardware locations. The guys were back in studio, and they were a bit conflicted. Of course, everyone is all about all things Christmas this time of year, but with the weather as good as it is – and the fishing as good as it is – how could you not talk about it?
The conversation bounced around all over the place between fishing, hunting, sting ray barbs, Christmas gift ideas, Christmas movies and TV specials, lines from Star Wars (?!?)…no joke – this episode BOUNCED.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

The boys were broadcasting live from Standard Feed & Seed for the Holiday Ho-Ho-Hoedown to spread some Christmas cheer, collect toys for Operation Santa’s Heroes, and take part in all the festivities. The talk went all kinds of sideways pretty much from the start, as is the case anytime the boys are on location. Lots of great stories and fun stuff…100% must-listen!!
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week from Captain Kirk: Here is a unique first aid tip – Capt. Kirk carries pickle juice in his backpack when he goes to the woods and on his boat. Whenever you get a muscle cramp, that juice knocks it out QUICK.

As you know, there’s always a lot to talk about on the Outdoors Show, but boy, did the guys hit on A LOT of different things in this episode! You’ll have to listen closely to hear how the conversation found its way to barbed wire…but it was really interesting stuff.
In the midst of the rambling conversation, it was decided that in two weeks, on December 20, the first ever Outdoors Show Green Off will take place! Stay tuned for more info…because the gang has no idea how this is supposed to work.
And just when you thought the show couldn’t get any more sideways, Jeff started singing the praises of his favorite road trip restaurant, the Mustard Seed Buffet. But everything went south when, much to everyone’s chagrin, we found out it closed down. HOWEVER – the OS Family quickly rebounded with suggestion after suggestion for great southern cooking restaurants.
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week from Jeff: Looking for the BEST stocking stuffer? Try GrooveLife belts – they fit great, look great, last a LONG time. Get yours at Hagan Coastal Outfitters.

After a few weeks away, Capt. Kevin made his triumphant return to the Fishing Forecast show, and what do you think he did? You know what he did: he had the Unusual Suspects check in with their reports, of course! Couple that with talk about the weather on the way, and you get some fun chatter and a great glimpse into what lies ahead for you on the water.

With Kevin doing OSR in Georgia (and checking in with his fancy new technology), Domenic Paniccia sat in with Capt. Kirk and Jeff for this post-Thanksgiving episode.
Doug, one of our callers, asked a question about fishing frustrations…and boy, did the fur fly after that one! You’ll have to listen in and take some notes to keep track of all things that can get under an angler’s skin! What’s your biggest pet peeve?
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week from Captain Kevin: He got Star Link at the Roost, and he loves it. Full-speed connection to the middle of nowhere, all for $120/mth. It’s a total gamechanger!
Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week from Captain Kirk: Here’s a tip for folks that we use at the camp for fires in our pit. We start our fires with the normal small piece of fat liter/pine and split wood but we get the fire going with an inexpensive road flare inserted into the middle. AND WE STRESS: THIS ONE IS FROM CAPT. KIRK – THE VIEWS EXPRESSED DO NOT REPRESENT THOSE OF THE REST OF THE OUTDOORS SHOW HOST TEAM!
Here’s your KirbyCo Builders’ Cooking Tip of the Week: Tera’s Grandmother made this every year for Thanksgiving. It goes great with anything… especially chili!

What do you think of when you think November? Deer hunting. Football. Thanksgiving, of course. But what about TEMPS IN THE 80s???? Amazing how the unseasonably high temperatures change the conversation about everything outdoors.
All kinds of chatter and stories about deer, the good stuff happening in the water, and the talk even went a little sideways about Shahid Khan’s 400-ft, $360M super-yacht Kismet.

With Capt. Kevin in No-Man’s-Land Georgia this week, Capt. Chip Wingo swung by the studio for this episode. Didn’t take but a minute to get into some chatter with the Unusual Suspects – Capt. Ricky Poupore, Capt. Leon Dana and Capt. Cory Sparks, specifically – about how things were going with the warm weather trend.
The big question: how thankful will we be in the next week? Listen in to get that forecast…

They paused, however, to pass along a BIG warning about the change coming – a nasty cold front is on the way, and it’s set to make things very dangerous late Sunday.
