You read that right – this thing started back in 1996, and it’s been a wild ride!  Broadcasting live from Strike Zone Fishing, the boys got together with the OS Family to reflect on three decades of the Outdoors Show. The Outdoors Show has lived through 6 different presidencies and watched gas go from $1.25 a gallon to…well, let’s not talk about that. The guys have seen the outdoor lifestyle go high-tech, with cellular trail cams, thermal imaging, side-scan sonar, GPS-enabled trolling motors and complete technical overhauls of the stuff they’ve always relied on. They’ve seen A LOT of change. But during this episode, there was plenty that hasn’t changed – and it’s a huge statement about what makes the Outdoors Show what it’s always been. The good people, the good stories and the good times.  Today, all of us celebrated what’s good in the outdoors and what’s good about the Outdoors Show and the Outdoors Show Family. From all of us to all of you, thank you for 30 great years! Here’s your L.V. Hiers Inc gear tip of the week: Visit Strike Zone and find out about the special 30th Anniversary special deals they have in honor of the Outdoors Show! Can you believe it’s October? OCTOBER?!?!? What a wild year it’s been, and what a wild weather week we’ve had. Capt. Kevin gets into with the Unususal Suspects, and they kick around some really good tips so that you can catch something – anything – when Mother Nature’s acting up like this.  Listen in for the forecast, too… Facebook
The guys made their way to the studio for this episode reveling about the weather. As Jeff put it – it was one of the best mornings EVER. EV-VER! And what a great day to have great weather – 9/26 is National Hunting & Fishing Day! It’s a time to recognize generations of sportsmen and women for their contributions to the conservation of our nation’s rich sporting heritage and natural resources (okay, that’s what the official website says…). For the boys, it’s time to raise a glass to everyone who hunts, shoots and fishes! Click HERE to visit the website and learn more. Lots of good news about the fishing and shrimping, but it wasn’t all good news. First Coast anglers finally got their expanded snapper season…but boy, the regs have made it a hot mess. Capt. Chad Starling called in to sort it out. You need to listen, but you may also want to have a piece of paper, a sharp pencil and a calculator handy. Good grief… Now when the temperature starts to fall, the guys look at the calendar. And today, the fact this this was their final September show, they couldn’t help but start talking about hunting. Lots of chatter about feeders, baiting and all the stuff that pulls them in. This show was in the middle of a Harvest Moon, which led to a few stories about how bright that moon can get when you’re in the woods. Well, that brought up jacklighting, which brought up all things jack: jackwagons, jackrabbits, jacka$$es, jack squat, and the ultimate question: what’s the deal with the word “jack”? Here’s your L.V. Hiers Inc gear tip of the week: The shrimp are running! Go see the helpful folks at Hagan Ace of Green Cove, Mandarin, East Palatka and Orange park for pellets, meal, nets, buckets and more. Visit their website to window shop before you go! Here’s your Ring Power Cat tip of the week: The Outdoors Show is celebrating 30 years on the air! Join Capt. Kevin Faver, Capt. Kirk Waltz and Jeff Lageman at Strike-Zone Fishing Jacksonville on Saturday, October 3, for a special live remote celebrating three decades of fishing, hunting, friendship and unforgettable stories! Everyone on the First Coast has noticed the change in the weather, and Capt. Kevin was no different. He and the Unusual Suspects all talked about the nor’easter that’s been cranking all week, and what it meant for the fishing.  You’ll want to listen in to see what’s working, what’s not, and what will work in the week ahead. Capt. Kirk was out on OSR, so Capt. Kevin and Jeff welcomed in Peter Thliveros, the area’s most successful professional bass angler. And in case you’re wondering, “most successful” is no joke – Peter T’s won almost $2 MILLION over the course of his career. With a track record like that, you can guess there’s a lots of bass talk, of course – stories, tips, tricks…you name it, you’ll get it! But it wasn’t ALL bass…there was plenty of surf and offshore fishing talk, too. The show took a serious turn when Capt. Matt Chipperfield called in to talk about a crazy video he filmed in Guana Watershed. The situation there is distastrous; the water is poisoned by bacteria, pollutants and now deadly algae blooms. The fish kill covers several species – it’s catastrophic. The worst part: all of it could have been prevented.  Capt. Matt shared the details, and how we can all get involved to save Guana. It was a wild episode, complete with a surprise call-in from Josh Scobee, stories of turkey gangs, attack ostriches, the Tale of the Bathtub Bass, and there was even a pet goat sighting! You’ve GOTTA listen to this one… Here’s your L.V. Hiers Inc gear tip of the week: Captain Kirk’s favorite safety harness for bow season: the Hunter Safety Systems Ultra Lite.
