Welcome back to Blackwarren Reads, where we cconclude Season 2 with our latest release, David M. DeMar's "On the Air", the opening of his "Certified Gold" urban fantasy series. Welcome to Allora University, the Argent City's premier institute of higher learning! You'll find all kinds of mythic creatures here - including Allora University's newest freshman, Ricky Konacsz, next in line to be named king of the Dragons. Not that he ever wanted the job. He'd rather just listen to his vintage Joy Division LPs in peace. Ricky's been having an eventful semester. His roommate is a Satyr, and his polycule vacillates between constantly propositioning Ricky and eating all his snacks. The Sidhe noble in Ricky's accounting class has been tormenting him nonstop, threatening to turn him into a set of matched luggage. And the human girl at the library front desk has been hunting him on another playing field altogether! All he wants to do is listen to music and be left alone - and maybe get a job working behind the scenes at the college radio station. Ricky had hoped he could just have a normal life, but Fate had other plans. One night, he ends up behind the Allora University Radio's microphone instead of the soundboard. What began as a one-time event becomes a viral sensation. Things get even worse when he accidentally insults the father of a Sidhe noble on the air - the same noble who's been making his life miserable all semester. Now, all eyes are on him, and not in a good way. What's a young Dragon King to do? Blackwarren Reads returns with the finale of the publisher's debut anthology, Samhain Secrets: World Premiere. In the Argent City, where supernatural creatures like dragons, fae, and tricksters live alongside blissfully unaware humanity, Halloween Night remains the craziest night of the year. A dragon who would be king struggles to establish his identity and find his passion in hosting a popular radio show, while the wily Kitsune seek to unmask a conspiracy against the feuding Tricksters of the City, where anyone could be the culprit. Across the City, a pair of Fae entrepreneurs stake their future on cleansing a murder site for the police, but a nosy Brownie can't accept the given cause of death and suspects murder. And finally, a hopeful actress takes a chance at scoring the lead in the reboot of a much-beloved vampire action series, only to find the audition process far more bizarre, and deadly, than even the most committed actor would expect. Secret McQueen returns! At least on television, that is. With the revival of Bloody Good making its world premiere Halloween Night the question on every fan's mind is who will step into Ashley Carpenter's shoes as the new Secret McQueen? Monique, working actress and Bloody Good superfan, sees an ad for an open call for the lead role. Is it too good to be true? And aren't the producers just a little too Method for an audition for a vampire hunter show? How far would you go for the role of a lifetime? Shout out to the Goblins out there! Blackwarren Reads returns with the publisher's debut anthology, Samhain Secrets: World Premiere. "Whether you're cleaning up after a party, staging a condo for sale, or cleaning up a crime scene, call G&C Ablutions! There's no mess we can't address!" Claire Lascelles, a Brownie with a housekeeping pedigree and an Ivy League business degree, is still struggling to get her company, co-run with her friend and partner Gunnar "Gunny" MacNamara, to a level beyond advertising on social media. When called in by the police to clean a crime scene about to be released, Claire's obsession with hard-boiled whodunits comes out. Did the occupant die of natural causes as suspected? Shout out to the Goblins out there! Blackwarren Reads returns with the publisher's debut anthology, Samhain Secrets: World Premiere. "Whether you're cleaning up after a party, staging a condo for sale, or cleaning up a crime scene, call G&C Ablutions! There's no mess we can't address!" This week, Chris interviews our newest assistant editor and budding voice artist, Skye Sisk, on her journey into creative writing and publishing, lifting the hood on a manuscript to help fine-tune the language, her minor font obsession, advocacy for a writer's voice, and love of her two American Akitas. Skye discusses writers and editors she admires, influences, fantasy nerdery, and the importance of well-executed symbolism and metaphor. Learn more about Skye here at Blackwarren Books Hear some of Skye's voice work in Blackwarren Reads Read Skye's blog articles on Representation and Character Identity in tabletop gaming. We resume with "The Kit Gloves Are Off", by Chris Shaffer, and the kitsune protagonist Makoto "Mac" Minocci, journeyman trickster, and protege of Shiko Akimura, demon hunter, and de facto leader of the Foxes of the Argent City. Halloween is no reason to stop feuding clans of rogues, swindlers, and charlatans from targeting each other, but tonight's trick seems closer to starting a war. With the culprit finally unmasked, can Mac, Kaz, and Shiko stop their plan before the Kitsune are framed for an assassination? We resume "Climbing the Charts", by David M. Demar, and the protagonist Ricky Konacsz (CONE-ax), future Dragon King, freshman at Allora University, and vinyl aficionado taking his first steps into broadcasting. Nothing succeeds like success. After a harrowing (for him) night, Ricky learns his set on the Night Nest was a hit! With the Night Nest offered (not forced) on him, it's up to Ricky to prove he wasn't a fluke, help his sister Dags get revenge on her ex-boyfriend with an epic playlist of break-up songs, and eventually do a live broadcast Halloween Night. With every episode, Ricky's profile grows ever higher, more visible, and when the story comes full circle to the beginning, the future Dragon King will learn it's a long way down.
