Have you heard of the Neeley Family Distillery? Or Hidden Barn whiskey? If not. This whiskey brand is one that is not talked about a whole lot. See what Albert, Heisey and Zack think of this single barrel pick from their distillery! It would be cool to have a bottle of this on your shelf.
Chris from Bourbon Of The Week joins us and he is determined to make May #BottleKillMonth. Tune in to see what he feels like is a good time for people to finish some bottles and clear some space. We also discuss the recent Weller Millennium release announcement. And then we let ChatGPT lead our discussion for some of this episode.
Albert, Googs and Heisey get together and review the Stagg they recently acquired. And talk other stuff as well!
Next Albert and Zack review the Bhakta Armagnac Cask Finish Bourbon. A more expensive bottle than the rye blend, see how we compare them and if it is worth grabbing instead of a Pappy!
Albert and Zack sit down and review the 1928 Bhakta. A 70$ bottle that is a blend of Rye, Calvados, and Armagnac. If you are only into bourbon this might be just thing for you to try to expand your horizons!
We catch up with each other and recap Vinnie’s trip to Albert’s house and the Weller blind they set up. Someone leaves behind their Pappy bottle. Heisey’s kids want to be just like him! And we review the Breckenridge High Proof Blend.

Join the gang with our guest Steve Berman (@Bermansbourbon) in this adventure of an episode. We were lucky enough to meet Steve in person two months ago and this guy has already become a great friend. Steve started his whiskey career while Kentucky and joined an internet scene in the early stages of bourbon social media. We talk about how he ended up in Kentucky and how he moved to Canada of all places, where the whiskey hunting is very different. Following along and give Steve a follow. Oh, and make sure you rate and review the podcast!
The guys and Sam do their best to remember the long weekend in the finger lakes. We recap the trip a little and go over the day we spent at Finger Lakes Distillety, from bloody Mary’s, a distillery tour and how we narrowed it down to actual barrel pick as a group.
Albert, Vinnie and Heisey host Phillip Wilson, one of the owners from Pour More. Pour More is a whiskey subscription for anyone from beginners to the experienced whiskey drinkers. We chat about their business and how this came to be (because guess what, they love whiskey also). We also get into their barrel picks and do a review of their single barrel Short Barrel Rye pick as well. See what these guys have to offer and if it could be something for you! And Phil cannot escape without going through a Vinnie rapid fire segment.
Another Spirit With Character Local Distillery Series, featuring the owner and master distiller at Hartman’s Distilling. We get into his early days of Kentucky trail experiences and the decision to start a distillery. The double gold award that took them by surprise in San Francisco. Special barrels set aside for the Buffalo Bills and Sabres as well what it is like to age barrels in Buffalo.
In our Spirit with character local distillery series we sit down with a Jamie Oakes, a distiller from Tamworth. In our short time or exploring whiskey Tamworth really sets the bar for craft distilleries. A well thought out company in New Hampshire who is not afraid to take risks (like using a castoreum) but also is extremely well thought out in what they want to put out on shelves. They are rooted in history and hold close their ties to Grover Cleveland and the Bottle In Bond Act. Do not let a few unique whiskeys deter you, this bottle in bond 4 and 7 year are great! With many other offerings from brandy to vodka and gin. We also get to know Jamie and his experiences of classes with distillers from Texas and what it is like to work for Steven Grasse “punk rock prince of small-batch spirits”
On a random night to choose to go to a tasting, featuring Milam and Greene whiskey, at a small liquor store just over the border in Maryland. Albert and Heisey did not know they were going to actually meet Master Distiller, Marlene Holmes, and National Brand Ambassador, Blair Ault. After chatting and sharing stories they definitely wanted to be on the podcast and hopped on with Albert and Heisey just one week after! So kick back and relax for a great conversation with these two! Seriously… This is good. Even without Zack hosting
The guys are all getting together this weekend to do their first barrel pick. Sam helped set us up with Brian McKenzie over at Finger Lakes Distilling and McKenzie whiskey company and it will be the first time all 5 of us have been together since we started this thing. We are making this a whole weekend affair and we discuss what we expect will happen verse what might actually happen and talk about the rest of the weekend plans.
Our final review in our Texas Series is the A special release for the Lunar New Year from Fierece Whiskers, the Ham Choi. Albert forgot about a stave that he put into an Elijah Craig Small Batch. We discuss where to put his stick next. And Heisey and Albert take a quick trip to Maryland for a tasting with Milam & Greene.
Caleb from Tx_whiskey geek joins us for this review of not one but two bottles from Ironroot Distillery. We were very grateful of Caleb who made sure to get us a few bottles for our podcast that we had to have him join us. Caleb is proud of the whiskey that comes out Texas and has been a long time listener of ours. His knowledge of the Texas Whiskey shows in this episode so make sure you give him a follow. We learn about his “Blackout Whiskey Tour” something he is doing for the eclipse that is coming through. And we talk about how we “stumbled” across the second bottle of Ironroot in Tampa during our trip.
Albert and Zack get to recap their trip to Tampa for the Whiskey Riot Festival. And then we get into our third review from the Texas review series. Still Austin “The Musician” the straight bourbon.
Caryn Wells, Brand Ambassador for Green River Distillery, Joins Zack and Albert. After playing a game with GR at Whiskey Riot Festival they knew they needed to have her on. Caryn takes time out of her busy schedule to talk, Green river, navigating a large event and how to help others learn how to enjoy tasting bourbon. Green River has an amazing history, and they just returned making a huge splash at the Kentucky Bourbon Fest last year, and they have only just begun.
This episode we chat more with David about him, Golden Sheaf, blending and throw him through our rapid fire questions. How does David and Dixon fair in cage match against some heavy hitters?
David Mark Young from Golden Sheaf Distillery and co host on Blending Bourbon podcast joins the crew for a Four Roses Single Barrel Blind. This is such a good episode that we split this into 2 parts. Part 1 includes the blind and part 2 will include what we talk about after the blind. In this episode we chat about all good things Four Roses, palates and that no tasting note is safe from scrutiny. Stay tuned for part 2.
Jon from, the director of sales for Castle and Key joins Albert and Zack as they will all be at the Whiskey Riot Festival this Weekend down in Tampa. We talk about the distillery, how it came to be and what’s happening in the future. We also talk about what it’s like working at an event like this and how a consumer can actually go about making it a worth while experience. We really got know Jon well and his love for whiskey and are excited to run into him down in Tampa. Does he have an allowance? Listen and find out.
