Sherlock Holmes has a new case to solve, and it's one that will take him into one of the few domains with which he is unfamiliar: that of amateur sport. Holmes and Watson have been approached by Mr. Cyril Overton, of the rugby union team at Trinity College, Cambridge, about one of their star players who has gone missing: three-quarter Godfrey Staunton. The young man disappeared from his hotel last night after receiving a mysterious telegram, and Overton is desperate to get him back. Adding a wrinkle to the matter is the fact that Staunton is the heir to one of the richest men in England, Lord Mount-James. Though Holmes is not a man for amateur sport, there's still no one better to determine what could have happened to the missing three-quarter. As the investigation begins, let it soothe your mind and carry you off into a night of warm and peaceful slumber.-----Welcome to the Sherlock Holmes Bedtime Stories podcast. It's a dark and stormy night, and not a creature is stirring - except Scotland Yard inspector Stanley Hopkins. He has turned up at Baker Street to ask for Sherlock Holmes's assistance in investigating an inexplicable murder. A young man named Willoughby Smith has been murdered, and Hopkins has no idea why. The only evidence is the golden pince-nez that the murdered man was clutching in his right hand. Charles Augustus Milverton is the worst man in London, at least according to Sherlock Holmes. The man is an unrepentant blackmailer, whose only goal is to inflict as much harm on his targets as possible. Holmes's latest client, Lady Eva Blackwell, has hired him to negotiate a deal with Milverton to avoid the release of some imprudent letters before her impending marriage. Unfortunately for Holmes, Milverton's not interested in making a deal, which means Holmes will have to resort to more extreme (and duplicitous) methods.
