Where in the story |  The Gospel of Luke "God rooted Christianity in verifiable history. It's almost as if God really wanted the world to know that he so loved it that he gave his Son for it." The gospel of Luke presents Jesus as the perfect one who gave his life for the imperfect ones. The highest category of humanity paled in comparison to the person of Jesus Christ. Yet, this perfect one offers forgiveness to his enemies, entrance into eternity, and trust in his Heavenly Father. What would seem like foolishness, the cross, was proven to be the wisdom of God just three days later. We are now invited to see Jesus and share him as witnesses to who he is an what he has done. Where in the story |  The Gospel of Mark "What they thought would be his defeat is now a monument of death's defeat." The gospel of Mark presents Jesus as the strong one who uses his strength to serve. Where everyone else used the power to lord over people, Jesus used his power to love people. The question then becomes, "who is this man?" and "who is he to you?" Jesus has entered into our story and now is inviting us to enter into his. Each gospel writer presents Jesus in his own unique way. Like a diamond seen from different angles, Jesus is seen as even more beautiful when we see him through the lens of each gospel account. In this episode, we explore "The Gospel Mosaic." When we see Jesus from every side, we see him more fully for who he truly is. Where in the story |  In between the OT and NT "God's silence does not mean his absence." God goes silent for 400 years between the Old and New Testament. That is 400 years of God not speaking to his people through a prophet or revelation. But God's silence does not mean his absence. God's silence is his orchestration of all things for his glory and our good. In this episode, we explore the world powers and the group of jewish people that Jesus entered into. Just like the beginning, God moves into the darkness of the world with his marvelous light. Act one is complete, the curtain has come down, Act Two of God's great story is about to begin. Where in the story |  Old Testament Recap "When we see Jesus as better than we can imagine, we are only scratching the surface of who he is." Welcome to season 5 of Storyverse Podcast. In this season, we will focus on the man, the message, and the mission of God's Son, Jesus Christ. As we jump back into the story, we look back on the shadows of the Old Testament that have become the substance that is Jesus. Join us for an amazing look at the one and only Jesus. As we close the story of the Old Testament, I (Derek) wanted to share a quote from Tim Keller that radically altered the course my life. This quote changed how I saw the Bible, which changed how I saw God, which changed everything. Since it recaps the Old Testament by seeing Jesus as the center of the story, it is only fitting to close out the story of the Old Testament with it. Where in the story |  God's Persistence: Major Prophets "God has made us dependent by design. We need God and we need from God. When we step into that, we experience more deeply all that God wants to give." Throughout the story, God has revealed who he is, who we are, and how we are meant to navigate this world. As the Old Testament comes to a close, there has been one message from God on repeat: we need God. In this episode, we look at the Major prophets and the individual (and only) message God is giving to his people. This is what the entire Bible has been communicating. Where in the story | God's Persistence: Ezra and Nehemiah "The walls we build up to give us a sense of security will ultimately crumble. But only God's presence leads to our true provision and protection in this life." Welcome to the surprising (and anti-climactic) end to your Old Testament. As the people return from Exile, the same pattern of rebellion and ritual continue. Where God's heart is relationship, the people of God continue to choose paths that lead to their own destruction. As this movement ends, God goes silent for 400 years. But his silence does not mean his absence. Rather he is orchestrating all things for his glory and the ultimate good of his people. This will take place when he breaks the silence through his own Son. If you found this episode helpful, make sure you subscribe, share, and leave a review. Where in the story | God's Persistence: Daniel 7 "When we see Jesus this way, we see him as bigger than anything we can reduce him down to. When we see Jesus for who he truly is, we fall down in worship. When we see Jesus, we see what our hearts long for and were made for."   Welcome to one of the most important chapters in your Bible: Daniel 7. Here we see a window into heaven and God's culminative plan for all of human history. This is a big one! If you found this episode helpful, make sure you subscribe, share, and leave a review. S4 E9: Faith in Exile

Where in the story | God's Persistence: The book of Daniel "In the story, it is not God who is throwing people into the fire, but rather he is the one who enters into the fire on our behalf." As the people of God are in exile, we see only a few faithful followers of God left. The book of Daniel highlights three different stories of these men and their allegiance to God no matter the outcome. In this episode we explore each of these stories as examples of what it looks like to walk in faithfulness in a culture that is far from God. Ultimately, we see Jesus as the true faithful follower in his own exile on the cross. If you found this episode helpful, make sure you subscribe, share, and leave a review. Where in the story | God's Persistence: Ezekiel "It is not lost on the LORD when I am not being loved or lead well. He sees. He knows. He will take care of it." The Spirit leaves. The sheep are scattered. The savior is yet to come. The prophet Ezekiel gives us a window into God's heart for his people, even when his people are rejecting God and are taken into captivity. When nothing seems to be going right in the story (or your story), God's hand is still guiding and directing by his Spirit as our savior and good shepherd. Where in the story | God's Persistence: Isaiah and Hezekiah "The only way to go from condemnation to comfort is when a righteous King enters into the story." Moving now to the southern kingdom of Judah, we look at Isaiah and Hezekiah. Isaiah will begin with prophecies of condemnation, but will end with prophecies of comfort. What changed? A righteous King interceded to the LORD on the people's behalf. Sound familiar? In this episode we look at the book of Isaiah and the reign of King Hezekiah, a righteous King and shadow of our true King, Jesus. Where in the story | God's Persistence: 1 Kings and the main moments in the life of Elijah "Sometimes you need a rally from God. Sometimes you need rest in God. Only God knows what you truly need. Because what you truly need is him." Journey with us as we see the ups, downs, and final outcome of Elijah's life and ministry.  In Elijah's life, we see our own. All of us will have successes and set-backs in life. And yet, it is our God who navigates us in the green pastures and the dark valleys. He is holding our hand whether we need a rally from him or rest in him. Because in the end, we really just need him.   If you found this episode helpful, make sure you subscribe, share, and leave a review. Where in the story | God's Persistence: 1 Kings 12 and the Sins of Jeroboam. "We are products of good leaders we are trying to mimic and bad leaders we are trying to avoid." In this episode we explore the downline of good and not so good leadership. Looking at the beginning of the divided Kingdom of God's people, we see two terrible leaders: Rehoboam and Jeroboam. Both will mimic the worst of Solomon and both will leave a wake of hurt behind them. What do you do when faced with two poor choices in leadership? How do you mimic good leaders and avoid mimicking bad leaders? How do you mimic bad leaders?  We are all a product of those around us. So let's listen in as we are restoried back to how we love and lead others as God loves and leads us.   If you found this episode helpful, make sure you subscribe, share, and leave a review. These stories are formed through a complex web of formative experiences, early attachment figures, and a series of events and influences that shape the way you see God, yourself, and the world around you. In this episode, we explore YOU and your auto-biographical narrative. How did you come to believe in the story you tell yourself? How is God inviting you to partner with him in rewriting your story? Question & Response. Why did David's son die because of David's sin? What happens to babies when they die? Can we be kicked out of the "Promise Land" of heaven because of our sin like Moses was kept out of the Promise Land because of his sin? As we close down season three of Storyverse Podcast, we explore some of the hardest questions in Scripture and what they show us about the very heart of God.
