Description

Welcome to The End of Seeking Podcast! This podcast was born out of the many, many hours (and years) of conversations that Imogen and Martyn naturally have around the topic of awakening and the nature of Being. It’s intimate, casual and a joy for us to sit together in this way.

In this episode, we explore how spiritual teaching often depends on timing, context, and what can genuinely be received in the moment. Beginning with the Buddhist idea of skillful means, we reflect on why different teachings offer different emphases, why language around awakening can so easily harden into concepts. We discuss how different traditions from nonduality, Buddhism, and mysticism each attempt to point beyond themselves. We also touch on embodiment, integration, and the movement from realisation into ordinary life — where insight has to be lived rather than simply understood. A spacious conversation on teaching, language, and the challenge of speaking clearly about what cannot quite be said.Enjoy!Recorded: 4th April 2026If you’d like to join us on our in-person retreat June 13-20th 2026 you can find out more at beyondimogen.com/stnonsImogen’s website - beyondimogen.comMartyn’s website - martynwebber.comThis Substack is reader-supported. In this episode of The End of Seeking Podcast, we explore the idea of life as an ongoing conversation with the divine, reflecting on what it means to stay open to the unfolding of each moment without trying to control outcomes. We touch on the tension between debate and true dialogue, the human tendency to seek somewhere to “land,” and how clinging contributes to suffering. Drawing from contemplative traditions, we move through practice, inquiry, surrender, and the complementary roles of calm abiding and insight practice. Throughout, we return to the quiet transformative power of presence — suggesting that simply meeting life as it is may be the deepest form of healing.Enjoy!Recorded: 9th February 2026Imogen’s website - beyondimogen.comMartyn’s website - martynwebber.comThis Substack is reader-supported. This week’s episode is a spontaneous conversation recorded on the fly after we realised something meaningful was unfolding. Using our little mobile mics, we dive deep into what feels like the heart of our times: the alienation from our true nature and the longing to return to it.We explore the question at the root of both personal and civilizational crisis: what happens when we forget the ground of our being? From meditation and self-inquiry to the pitfalls of belief and the hunger for direct experience, we trace how disconnection gives rise to confusion, and how remembrance restores clarity.Along the way, we touch on Paul Kingsnorth, Simone Weil, Jordan Peterson, postmodernism, the collapse (or renewal) of civilization, and the deeper rhythm beneath it all — destruction and rebirth, ignorance and awakening. It’s an unpolished, wide-ranging dialogue about truth, consciousness, and the mystery of what’s really going on in our world… and in us.Listen in, reflect, and perhaps remember what’s already whole.Enjoy.Recorded: 30th October 2025Imogen’s website - beyondimogen.comMartyn’s website - martynwebber.comThis Substack is reader-supported. After some months away, we return to the microphones to talk about where life has taken us – from words to clay, from satsang to sculpture, from the inner world of reflection to the embodied world of creation. We explore how art and spirituality are not separate paths but expressions of the same movement of being. We speak about what it means to live our dharma – to follow the pull of what is most natural, true, and alive – and how meaning reveals itself not as an abstract idea, but as a felt sense of alignment with life’s own flow. This conversation moves through the creative process, surrender, fear, conditioning, and the paradox of the personal and impersonal in awakened life. It’s an intimate and honest reflection on returning to what calls us most deeply, and how that call continues to shape the way we live, create, and serve.Enjoy. In this episode we discuss the concept of "amor fati" or the love of one's fate, as proposed by the philosopher Nietzsche. We explore how embracing all experiences, past and present, with acceptance and love, can lead to freedom from suffering. We delve into the stages of awakening and enlightenment, which involve recognising one's true nature as pure consciousness beyond the personal identity. The initial stage is often marked by a gap or glimpse beyond the clouded experience of phenomena, where the unchanging awareness is revealed. However, we clarify that this is not the final stage, as there can still be a subtle duality between the witnessing self and the observed world. Further integration and maturation is required to fully embody non-duality, where all experiences are recognised as expressions of the one Self.We also touch on themes like forgiveness, letting go of regrets and judgments, and the developmental unfolding of awakening over time. We explore metaphors and analogies to illustrate the gradual clearing of perception as one moves from ignorance to embodied non-dual realisation.Enjoy.Imogen’s website - beyondimogen.comMartyn’s website - martynwebber.com Get full access to The End of Seeking Podcast at endofseeking.substack.com/subscribe
In this episode we discussing fear and its relationship to intuitive knowingness. We explore how we can identify our internal sense of guidance and discern when fear is clouding our judgment versus when we are receiving clear intuitive signals. We discuss tools like Human Design that can help locate one's intuitive authority. While fear is a normal emotion, we talk about how it should not be interpreted as guidance. Intuition provides a pre-rational sense of yes or no that we must learn to trust over rational thinking or reactions of fear. This episode helps untangle these concepts to gain clarity on decision-making.Enjoy!For those who’d like to listen on their preferred podcast platform:YoutubeAppleSpotifyGoogle PodcastImogen’s website - beyondimogen.comMartyn’s website - martynwebber.com Get full access to The End of Seeking Podcast at endofseeking.substack.com/subscribe
In this episode we dive into the mystical path and what it means to embrace the "wildness" of spiritual awakening beyond rigid traditions and structures. We discuss the seeming contradictions between non-dual teachings and the devotional love for divine forms like Mother Mary, and how the mystic path holds these paradoxes. We reflect on the pain of leaving behind spiritual communities in order to surrender to our own unscripted mystical unfoldment, offering insights from our journeys into finding an authentic way through periods of darkness without external authorities to rely upon.Join us for an illuminating dialogue for anyone drawn to the depths and mysteries of spiritual awakening beyond prescriptive paths and called by the mystic's heart.Enjoy! For those who’d like to listen on their preferred podcast platform:YoutubeAppleSpotifyGoogle PodcastImogen’s website - beyondimogen.comMartyn’s website - martynwebber.com Get full access to The End of Seeking Podcast at endofseeking.substack.com/subscribe
In this episode we explore how in our daily lives we often struggle to truly meet others and be present with the full breadth of their experience. Consumed by the chatter of our minds, we miss subtle emotions, sensations, and the depths of our inner lives. While pleasant feelings are easy to embrace, difficult ones are often avoided - yet suppressing strong emotions leads to suffering.True growth requires extending beyond our boundaries into the unknown, which can trigger fear. But meeting ourselves and others without conditions, through compassionate listening and tender witnessing, is the essence of healing. We also discuss how Satsang is not not an intellectual exercise, but an experiential journey of self-inquiry.Noting how meditation and self-inquiry are complementary practices for accessing the present moment. The living transmission of satsang supports clarity until we awaken to the truth: "I am That which is being pointed to." Join us on this tender exploration of what it truly means to meet another human being in the depths.
Welcome to episode 29 where we're exploring some obstacles on the path to spiritual awakening. How expectations can often cloud our perception of the obvious. We discuss how these expectations can lead us astray, causing us to bump into our own assumptions rather than see reality for what it is.We discuss how aiming for future attainment can be a strategy to avoid the present moment. We also explore the paths of the householder and the renunciate, observing that enlightenment is not reserved for those living a monastic lifestyle. In today's internet age, are there more awakened beings out there? With increased access to teachings and teachers and spiritual connections, it's a possibility we explore. We also dive into the cultural trappings surrounding spiritual traditions, separating the essential from the superfluous. We talk about the way intimate relationships can serve awakening. We discuss the power of mutual mirroring and how it can deepen our spiritual growth. We note that Self-inquiry isn't an intellect process. It uses the mind to transcend the mind. The 'answer' to the question "who am I" is experiential not intellectual. We explore the need to meet fear in the body and embrace the raw reality of truth, even when it challenges our beliefs. And so courage and curiosity is required on the path of spiritual exploration.Enjoy.For those who’d like to listen on their preferred podcast platform:YoutubeAppleSpotifyGoogle PodcastImogen’s website - beyondimogen.comMartyn’s website - martynwebber.com Get full access to The End of Seeking Podcast at endofseeking.substack.com/subscribe
In this episode we discuss the motivations behind why awakened beings can feel called to teach. We explore how wisdom naturally emerges during awakening. We note the seeker's unwavering focus on ending suffering and uncovering liberating truths, and talk about the concept of the "two-turnings," transitioning from inner exploration to outward engagement after liberation. We discuss how our ability to connect with others depends on our ability to explore our own depths and how contingent identities don't offer much safety. We also explore the notion of the Bodhisattva as a description of awakened tendencies. Particularly in regard to the spontaneous emergence of compassion and loving-kindness. We'll also reflect on the humbling realization that  “I’m not doing anything.”From valuing small acts of kindness to embracing broken-heartedness as a gateway to compassion, we'll touch on various paths to understanding happiness and the nature of suffering. We talk about nondoership and how that idea is received differently in different states of consciousness. And we discuss how the work of spiritual mentorship and teaching is richly beneficial for both mentor and mentee. As always, much more besides. Today we discussed the place of faith on the spiritual path. We talked about Pure Land Buddhism which is a faith-based Buddhist school. We reflect on the difference between the idea that “there’s nothing you can do” vs “there’s nothing you *need* to do.” The role of self-effort.Can one short-circuiting practice? Progressive vs sudden awakening. We explore limiting ideas regarding what’s required to awaken. And notice when Life says “hold my beer!”Every part of your life experience is “your way” and is the way consciousness wakes up to its own nature. We discuss how faith can allow one to drop thinking. But true faith needs to align with truth/reality.We talk about coming to the end of seeking and the power of being humbled by our powerlessness. Also we touch on the different shapes of seeking in different people.Enjoy.Imogen’s website - beyondimogen.comMartyn’s website - martynwebber.com Get full access to The End of Seeking Podcast at endofseeking.substack.com/subscribe
In this episode, we explore the power of direct experience over intellectual knowledge, that there are profound teachings to be found in the fullness of the lived experience. Life itself is a constant teacher. The solution to global problems? It starts at the individual level—discover your true nature rather than trying to imagine and bolster an unsustainable identity. We discuss "bootstrapping enlightenment" and the value of an eclectic spiritual path. We caution against comparing spiritual paths, urging to experience the shared reality they point to. We give some examples of spiritual teachers' key pointings.Teachings and teachers are manifestations of our own consciousness, acting as an alarm clock to wake us up!Regarding spiritual transmissions, we discuss transcending the transmitter/receiver binary; you are the light, and everything is the light. We talk about how even the sense of lack can become a teaching moment as we include everything. Enjoy!Imogen’s website - beyondimogen.comMartyn’s website - martynwebber.com Get full access to The End of Seeking Podcast at endofseeking.substack.com/subscribe
Glad to be back for 2024! This week we talk about the many different aspects of silence. How to cultivate a relationship with silence and recognising that the experience of silence is bliss. We acknowledge that sometimes one needs to traversing the ‘gunk’ to get to the silence. We touch on St. Teresa of Avila’s mystic ecstasies and how extended experience of high-intensity ecstatic bliss can take its toll on the physiology. Bliss isn’t a peak experience but a fundamental quality of being itself. We talk about the presence of thoughts in no-mind, ‘cleaning up’ after ‘growing up’ and ‘waking up’, and the blossoming of potentials after awakening. We discuss when prescriptions become descriptions to the awakened mind. Also, explore the practice of lectio divina - using sacred reading to access contemplative mind. We observe that silent observation is the way to discern the nature of reality. And lots more. Enjoy. “There are so many different ways of doing this work of holding space and guiding & supporting others. And so many ways of awakening to our nature and integrating and embodying that fully in the human expression that we are. Infinite ways of Being. If I could ever impart anything to anyone - it is to trust YOUR way.”In this episode we discuss the quiet joys of a Winter retreat. We explore the notion of “Do what thou wilt”; who is the one who wills and what is the “true will”, and how these questions are at the heart of spiritual realisation. We talk about the variety of teachings, teachers, approaches to self-knowledge and how it’s crucial to discover and attune to one’s own light. We explore how the experience of personal suffering can engender a greater sympathy and compassion for our fellow beings and also can make us more able to help.We also discuss the need to “find our way to the ‘yes’” when it’s not always our immediate response to a situation, etc. We talk about how life is orchestrating all beings back to the Self, back to their true nature.Lots more too. In this episode we discuss issues relating to sharing creative work. We talk about the demons of doubt in the creative process and reflect on not letting others' judgment hinder the truth of our creative expression. We discuss viewing one's work as an offering to life, recognising that it's a gift from life itself. We talk about the idea of letting go of outcomes and simply offering it up, relinquishing control and attachment. We also explore the secondary nature of words during Satsang, recognising that the real essence of spiritual teaching lies in the transmission — the living quality of what is pointed to and from. And we touch on the concept of transmission in the context of nondual recognition, using awakened teachers as the means to attune to one's true nature. And much more besides. Enjoy.
