Michael shares a strategy that has transformed his decision-making process in both family and entrepreneurial settings. Using the analogy of an Oreo cookie, he explains how the cream in the middle represents the time between thoughts and actions, and how you can utilise this fascinating strategy to change the way you work and live…
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Increasing the gap between thoughts and actions can lead to better decision-making in both family and entrepreneurial settings.
The Oreo cookie strategy, with the biscuits representing thoughts and responses and the cream representing the time between them, can help in making more thoughtful and measured responses.
Reacting impulsively, especially under stress, can often lead to unhelpful outcomes, while responding thoughtfully and curiously can lead to more positive results.
The Oreo strategy can be applied in both parenting and business scenarios, allowing for a pause before reacting and making decisions aligned with goals and values.
BEST MOMENTS
"What I find with the Oreo cookie strategy, however, is that A, it's a funny analogy. It's a funny scenario. So it sticks in my head very easily and it's easy to sort of extract in the heat of the moment."
"I miss a bus, there's always another bus coming. However, I don't want to go piling all of my eggs into one basket and then find out that it was a bit of a bum deal just because I was caught up and reacted in an emotional way in the moment."
"For me, at least, the energy that I'm feeling if I'm responding is a much more calm, level-headed and clear perspective, I have clarity in my head, whereas if I'm reacting, it kind of feels like everything is being compressed into the middle of my body, and that there's not oxygen or blood flowing to my brain."
"It's very important to have a very clear why. It's very important to understand what your values are. It's very important to understand your direction of travel”

Michael interviews entrepreneur Luke Carter about his journey as a parent and businessman. Luke shares his experiences as a father and his passion for entrepreneurship, highlighting the importance of aligning one's values with their business ventures.
He discusses his diverse range of business interests, including property, funding, and trading, and how he stays attuned to global trends and market changes. Luke also delves into his personal journey of overcoming mental health challenges and the therapeutic process of writing his book, "Darkness to Light."
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Luke emphasises the importance of having a robust and healthy relationship with one's subconscious, both as a parent and as an entrepreneur. He believes that self-awareness and self-growth are crucial in raising children and building a successful business.
In terms of trends, Luke has observed a significant shortfall of liquidity in the lending market, with major institutions buying fixed income instead of lending out. This has created opportunities for challenger banks and private credit organisations to provide more flexible and tailored solutions to borrowers.
Luke has written a book called "Darkness to Light" as a therapeutic and self-healing process. The book consists of 111 quotes that capture his emotions and journey from depression to success. He believes that the book can provide strength and inspiration to others who may be facing similar challenges.
Luke's experience growing up with a professional footballer father has had a significant impact on his life. While there were challenges, such as feeling the pressure to live up to his father's achievements, Luke also recognises the importance of his background and heritage in shaping his identity and values.

BEST MOMENTS
"I always tend to put my true emotions, not my reactive emotions, first and then have the drive to achieve more. You're naturally going to do better than you even thought you could because it's in resonance."
"I always wanted to do that, you know, the 1%, 1%, 3% rule, you know, consistency every day. That's what my goal was. And you constantly have to work on that because I have a habit of freaking myself out by thinking too much in the future and causing anxiety."
"I'm a big believer in natural flow and energy and law of attraction. I believe in divine timing and going with your gut instinct. I'd start the first few words. Sometimes I had no idea where it's going, but the words would flow."

Chloe also discusses the challenges of balancing parenting and entrepreneurship and offers practical strategies for maintaining resilience and fulfilment. She highlights the significance of investing in oneself, creating a vision for the future, and tuning into one's gut feelings
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Building self-awareness is crucial for taking control and designing the life you want. Getting to know yourself, understanding your values, and exploring your desires and needs are important steps in this process.
Invest in yourself and your personal growth. Seek help from therapists, coaches, or mentors who can support you in your journey. Don't be afraid to ask for help and guidance as you navigate through challenges and make changes in your life.
Create a vision for your future and why you want it to look and feel a certain way. Use tools like vision boards and manifestos to visualise your goals and aspirations. This helps you stay motivated and focused on what you want to achieve.
Tune into your gut and trust your instincts. Avoid feelings of guilt and instead listen to your inner voice when making decisions. Your gut feelings can guide you towards choices that align with your values and bring you fulfilment.
Involve your family and loved ones in your journey. Share your passions and aspirations with them, and let them be inspired by your actions. Role modelling a life filled with purpose and joy can have a positive impact on those around you.

Michael welcomes Jeni Sethi, a PT and online coach, about empowering busy parents to transform physically and mentally. Jeni shares her journey from being a competitive swimmer to becoming a coach and entrepreneur. She discusses the importance of finding balance as a parent and business owner, and how she manages to prioritise her family and business responsibilities.
Jeni also talks about the mindset shift that is necessary for achieving fitness goals and the importance of believing in oneself. She shares her inspiration, including her son Seb, and highlights the lessons she has learned from him.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Finding balance is crucial for busy parents who are juggling multiple responsibilities. It's important to prioritise self-care and make time for personal goals and interests.
Overcoming imposter syndrome and building confidence is a common challenge for entrepreneurs and coaches. Believing in oneself and acknowledging one's accomplishments is essential for success.
The physical transformation is often just the surface-level goal. Digging deeper and understanding the underlying motivations and desires can lead to more meaningful and long-lasting changes in both physical and mental well-being.
Sport and physical activity can teach valuable life lessons, such as teamwork, resilience, and the importance of setting and working towards goals. It can also provide a platform for personal growth and self-discovery.
BEST MOMENTS
"I think for me, helping people kind of find their sense of self again, and what they want to do, and allowing others to find that and learn that they don't have to sacrifice their life for what they want, it can actually kind of all fit in together."
"When you have kids, your world changes. And they're kind of at the centre of it. And you do everything for them and you kind of forget about yourself."
"I have to be very disciplined and almost quite like regimented in like my, my day almost and like blocking time out and, and giving set times to do things."
"I think it's just more about it's quite hard to put it into one, but... I think it's just about balance and... So that's probably one of the first inspirations I think I had growing up."

Michael welcomes Dr Alex Barker to discuss the challenges and rewards of being a parent and an entrepreneur. They delve into topics such as the influence of upbringing and societal expectations on their parenting styles, the importance of finding a balance between work and family life, and the need to challenge negative self-perceptions. They also touch on the benefits of meditation and mindfulness in managing stress and maintaining focus
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Alex faced challenges such as workplace bullying and a lack of enjoyment in his profession, which led him to explore leadership, personal development, and entrepreneurship.
Alex emphasises the importance of separating the mind from one's identity and learning to quiet the mind in order to find peace and clarity.
Alex practices meditation, particularly when he needs to establish flow thought or when he feels frantic, and uses exercise as a way to rest and recharge.
Not everyone follows the same routines or finds the same benefits in certain practices, and that it's important to find what works best for oneself. It’s important to have a loose framework or structure in family life to create space for the joy of being an entrepreneur.
BEST MOMENTS
"I think my journey has been accelerated by the loss of my father. I lost my dad just about a year and a half ago now. And that really forced me to face a lot of the guilt and shame that I had as a dad."
"I think everyone wishes to be at the end or afraid of the end being the worst case scenario. Like when I'm beating myself up about not doing this or doing that with my kids, I'm afraid of the ill future for my children, where they become all the things that I'm afraid of."
"I think it probably goes a long way to explain as well why entrepreneurism is such a big thing in the States."

Michael interviews Ellie Donaghy, a property developer and mother of two young children, who shares her journey of transitioning from a corporate career to starting her own business in property development.
Ellie discusses the challenges she faced, including being put at risk of redundancy and the desire for more control over her income, but stresses the importance of being organised and giving oneself a break when juggling the responsibilities of parenting and entrepreneurship.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Being a parent and an entrepreneur is challenging, and it's important to give yourself a break and not be too hard on yourself.
Surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals who are going through similar experiences can provide support and valuable insights.
Responding rather than reacting to stressful situations can help maintain a positive mindset and prevent unnecessary frustration.
Finding a strong motivation or "why" can drive and inspire you to overcome challenges and give back to others. In this case, the speaker's experience with the NHS has inspired them to raise money and support the organisation.

Michael interviews Emma Harris, the founder and chief of Glow London, a brand engagement agency. Emma shares her journey as an entrepreneur and a parent, discussing her background in corporate roles, her decision to start her own business, and the importance of aligning brand and culture.
She also opens up about the loss of her parents and how it has shaped her perspective on life and work. Emma introduces the concept of manifestation and the power of setting clear goals and intentions, discussing the family-like atmosphere at Glow London and the importance of surrounding oneself with positive and supportive people.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Emma believes in the power of manifestation and setting clear goals. She practices outcome setting, visualisation, and uses vision boards to align her energy and attract what she wants in life.
True fulfilment comes from within and not from external achievements or possessions.
Emma experienced the loss of her mother at a young age and her father later on. She recognises the impact of these losses on her life and how they have shaped her into who she is today.
We should always endeavour to encourage a sense of belonging and appreciation among team members and clients.
BEST MOMENTS
"I'm a big believer in the power of manifestation. I believe you can have anything you want in life. There are two conditions upon which that is true. One is knowing what you want. And the second one is to know you're going to have it."
"I think I've always been competitive, and I've always had that sort of natural business acumen. I could always look at any organisation and see how to improve it."
"The quest is not the stuff, like you say, the stuff, because you go through life going, when I get that job, when I earn that much money, when I buy that car, when I buy that flat, when I buy that house, I'll be happy."
"I'm a big fan of having an operating system to my kids. It's not the stuff, it's the information, the knowledge. It's how I live my life every day."

In this inbetween-a-sode of the Parentpreneur Podcast, Michael covers the importance and difficulties of finding a balance between work and family life. In this short episode he shares five top tips that can help you achieve maximum productivity at work and have a happier, healthier and more meaningful family life.

Michael’s first tip is to schedule family time as you would a business meeting. Put it in your diary, make it important and give that time your full attention.
Just as important as scheduling family time is scheduling work time. Michael talks about the importance of setting strict working hours and sticking to them, especially if you’re working from home.
Self care is the single most important thing you can do. Michale talks about the importance of looking after yourself and having fun, and how, as a result, your work and family life will improve because of it.
Being a parent is, in most cases, a partnership. Michael talks about having open communication with your partner about who does what when it comes to the children.
BEST MOMENTS“Multitasking is a fallacy, you can’t do two things equally well.”“Ask yourself ‘If I only do one thing today to make my day successful, what is it?’...then prioritise that thing.”“If you’re setting your own work hours, they don’t have to be in work hours.”

Alexandra talks about her work in helping entrepreneurs close the gap between where they are and where they want to be and how her time at drama school has given her valuable tools to achieve excellent results.
Alexandra talks about her experience of coaching and how this has helped her raise her child by using coaching techniques to overcome problems in place of traditional discipline.

BEST MOMENTS“There are a billion talented people out there in every sector, but you don’t see them because they don’t show off.”“There’s a new wave of masculinity. Which is the father that is tender to his child.”“Be brave enough to accept what you do know, what you don’t know, what you’re good at, what you’re not good at and to be honest and open about it.”

Tired of seeing people who claim to be entrepreneurs, but in reality don’t do anything, Michael has identified four bad habits all these people share. He’s going to break them down for you in this show so that you don’t fall into the trap of talking about it and not doing it.

Michael’s second tip is to break large tasks down into smaller, measurable targets.
Michael’s third tip is to stop planning and start working. Stop talking ‘what if’s’ and ‘yes, but’s’ and put your plan into action.
Michael’s fourth tip is to take risks. You will only learn from your mistakes, so don’t play it safe all the time, be brave enough to take a leap and see where it takes you.
BEST MOMENTS“Swap the chat and the planning for action.” “You can’t just declare yourself an entrepreneur and expect success to fall into your lap.”“How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.”“GSD - Get Shit Done.”

ABOUT THE GUEST
Andy Tait aka “Coach Taiters” found himself in a bad place both physically and mentally. He was coming out of an unhappy relationship, he didn’t do any exercise, and he was turning to food for comfort.
He realised that he needed to do something to regain control of his health. However, at this point in his life, he wasn’t a personal trainer, he didn’t have a nutrition certification, and he had no idea where to start.
He jumped around from diet to diet because he didn’t understand the principles of sustainable weight loss. So despite his efforts, he was on an unsuccessful journey because he got caught up in the over-restrict and over-consume cycle.
With the knowledge he has now, he could have saved himself years of frustration, and could have gained the physique and fulfilment he has today in a much shorter period of time.
Fast forward 10 years of working in the fitness industry. He wants to help you accomplish your health and fitness goals so that you can feel confident in yourself, reduce anxiety, and live a long and healthy life
Welcome to another ‘Inbetween-a-sode”. This week Michael talks about the importance of getting started with that great idea…of stopping thinking about and just doing it…of ‘Getting off your Backside.’
He talks about the motivations you need and shares his seven tips that will help you to make a start now so you can start to see the benefits.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Michael talks about the importance of your motivation. What is the motivation that is specific to you and drives you to do the one thing you want to do? Know it, learn it and keep it in your mind at all times.
‘Be Clear on your Niche’ - What is the thing that you are great at, the thing that your family and friends always come to you for advice for. More often than not, that is the thing that entrepreneurs monetise and become successful at.
‘Put yourself Out There’ - In this modern world of social media there is more opportunity than ever for people to shout about what they do. Even though it might feel uncomfortable at first you’ll soon see the rewards, and, you can guarantee that your competitors are doing it!
‘Provide Value’ - Your clients will be more receptive to you and your company if you provide true value for services. To find out what that means to them, simply ask them. Look for patterns in their behaviour or turn your problems into solutions and offer those as a service.
BEST MOMENTS
“When you have a strong enough ‘why’, the ‘how’s’ will take care of themselves.”
“Don’t let the minority spoil your party.”
“Offer free resources. That will help build trust with your potential customers.”

Welcome to another ‘Inbetween-a-sode”. In this week's show, Michael is looking at a question that plays on his mind, “How to run a successful business and be a good parent?”
So take a 15 minute break, relax and let Michael help you find some answers.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Being a parent is hard. Running a business is hard. But the two together? That can feel overwhelming. Can you balance them, is it even possible? Michael gives his thoughts on this and shares a few tips that might help you to feel less overwhelmed.

What are you worth an hour? You might find that that both saves you money and increases the time you can spend with your family.

This week, Michael is going to run you through his “NOT to do list” of stressful and common habits that entrepreneurs need to eliminate. So sit back and enjoy a bite-sized episode packed full of useful tips.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Don’t let emails and texts annoy your routine first thing in the morning or last thing at night. It will affect your thinking in the morning and your resting in the evening. Try to get at least one main task out of the way before you tackle your messages.
Have a clear agenda and end time for every meeting you attend. And get a copy of the agenda before the meeting. This way, you can have clarity around what you want to say, but also it will help you identify the people in the room that are on the same page as you.
Batch your emails! This means setting aside designated times to check your email and sending out replies in batches, usually once or twice a day. This way you are not constantly checking your emails which allows you to focus your mind on the task at hand.
Don’t work harder and expect to be less overwhelmed. Prioritise, don’t overwork. If you don’t prioritise then everything becomes overwhelming, but if you prioritise the most important tasks and do them first all of a sudden you will feel less overwhelmed.
BEST MOMENTS
“Within discipline lies freedom.”
“What you don’t do, determines what you can do.”
“Have a digital detox…switch your phone off one day a week.”
“Do less, better.”
