Description

Founded in 2017, The Losers’ Club® is an award-winning weekly series that chronologically digs through the work of Stephen King with humor, irreverence, and a critical eye. Each episode, the Losers gather together to read between the iconic pages and share the latest in King’s Dominion, whether it’s the author’s oft-controversial tweets, the boldest Hollywood headlines, or his endless forthcoming projects. The series also regularly features special guests. In the past, the Losers have spoken to Mike Flanagan, Thomas Jane, Tananarive Due, Chapo Trap House, Owen Teague, Mick Garris, Mary Lambert, Jerry O’Connell, Wil Wheaton, Joe Bob Briggs, and even King himself.

Once again, we're back on the Beam to close out the King catalogue. In our latest book episode, which has been exclusive to the Barrens since 2022, the Losers sort through Stephen King's 2022 novel Fairy Tale. Together, they discuss the fantasy genre at large, why it's so en vogue right now, how this story factors into King's Dominion, the missed opportunities, and, of course, dogs. Losers Jenn Adams, Rachel Reeves, and Ana Marie Cox check into Bates Motel on a rainy night to discuss Robert Bloch's Psycho, the 1959 best-selling novel that Alfred Hitchcock turned iconic the following year for Universal Pictures. Danse Macabre is a recurring feature of The Losers' Club that journeys through all the books that influenced Stephen King. (You know, as he listed in 1981's Danse Macabre. Ahem, hence the name of this series.) In the past, we've catalogued Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House, William Golding's Lord of the Flies, Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes, Peter Straub's Ghost Story, and Jay Anson's The Amityville Horror. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See https://pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Dark Tower Detour is a chance for Gunslingers to study the minutiae of Roland Deschain’s epic quest. Hosted by Dan Pfleegor, this exclusive series covers a range of topics that interest those who remember the face of their father. No character is too small. No detail too obscure. And no theory too foreboding as we march closer to the Dark Tower at the center of all creation. In June, they celebrated The Summer of The Stand by revisiting the entire Marvel Comics adaptation from acclaimed writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and virtuoso artist Mike Perkins. Today, we're unlocking the first volume -- "Captain Trips"/"American Nightmares"-- to promote the second one that is currently streaming in The Barrens (patreon.com/thebarrens) with the third to follow shortly. Consider this ... a "sweet treat." Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See https://pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
The Losers return for another round of recommends in The Stacks, our monthly series about all the good shit we've been reading, watching, and listening to this month. For this installment, Randall, Mike, and Ashley discuss Stephen King's take on Hansel & Gretel with the late Maurice Sendak. They also go over new releases, what they've been reading as of late, and more. Here's a list of all the titles covered: Murder in the Dollhouse: The Jennifer Dulos Story by Rich Cohen; The Troop by Nick Cutter; The Shards by Bret Easton Ellis; All Hallows by Christopher Golden; Scared by the Bible: The Roots of Horror in Scripture by Brandon Grafius; Certain Nocturnal Disturbances: Ghost Hunting before the Victorians by Tim Prasil; Coffin Moon by Keith Rosson; Hole in the Sky by Daniel H Wilson; The Andromeda Evolution by Michael Crichton and Daniel H Wilson; Demonlover (movie); and TASK (TV show). Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See https://pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
In the latest episode of The Losers' Club, co-hosts Randall Colburn, Jenn Adams, Dan Pfleegor, and Justin Gerber lace up their Nikes to discuss what's easily one of the best King adaptations of this century: The Long Walk. After a chat about the book's long road to the screen, they dig into the killer ensemble of young bucks, its subversion of the jump scare, and how Francis Lawrence and JT Mollner update the ideas baked into its high-concept premise for the modern era. Then stick around for a conversation with Mollner! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See https://pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Dark Tower Detour is a chance for Gunslingers to study the minutiae of Roland Deschain’s epic quest. Hosted by Dan Pfleegor and Dan Caffrey, this exclusive series will cover a range of topics that interest those who remember the face of their father. No character is too small. No detail too obscure. And no theory too foreboding as we march closer to the Dark Tower at the center of all creation. In this episode, which was recorded in February 2022, your intrepid hosts Dan Pfleegor and Dan Caffrey will speak with Richard Chizmar about the newly released Gwendy's Final Task. Together, they discuss the Gwendy Peterson Trilogy's connections to The Tower, what it's like to team up with America's most prolific author Stephen King, and just who exactly is the mysterious Richard Farris. It should be noted that the first half of this interview is spoiler free. We'll share a warning before the second half delves deeper into spoiler territory and Tower lore. Happy trails, gunslinger. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. What about an "escape room" sort of thing but its the green mile. people have to get out of a cell in a determined about of time and if they dont, they go to old sparky which is a chair like old sparky but it just turns reaaally fast until people are hell dizzy.

Hi guys! I just finished reading the Dark Half and I instantly wanted to listen your thoughts on it. I have been listening to the podcast for like a year now and something curious happened to me while reading this book: I found myself doing (mentally) my own little "king's deminion" (im not sure I wrote it well. English is my 2nd language) . There was one thing you missed: there is a part,I dont remember which page, where Thad and Liz are watching tv and one of the shows they mention is called "kojak" like our beloved doggy from the stand ❤

Good morning, losers! I love this episode. I'm a big fan of the book and the original 1963 film. I am eagerly awaiting your discussion of The House Next Door by Anne Rivers Siddons, which I had never heard of before this episode so I read it and I loved it. This podcast is amazing. Thanks for all you do. Keep it up!

love this podcast! some episodes feel a little drawn out and there are annoying tangents at times, but the hosts are great and put a lot of thought and personality into the episodes. I love finding fellow king fans who want to talk about the books and movies!
