Well, it took two months but we finally got the audio from the live episode from all the way back on March 11th 2024 uploaded here in all its chaotic form! The Nerds sat down this episode and streamed live on Pixel Bro Lee's twitch channel. There's quite a bit of chat interaction and we tried to restate what they said where we remembered but it got off the rails pretty quick. This whole episode almost have Josh an aneurysm. Take that for what you will. But for better or worse, here it is in all this episode's unhinged "glory"... (We'd like to dedicate this episode, for what our little podcast is worth, to the late and great Akira Toriyama. This episode was recorded a few days before his passing. His creations played a massive part in the lives of four little hillbillies pretending to throw spirit bombs in the backyard and we are sincerely grateful for it. He will be forever missed.) Konnichiwa, fellow nerds! Its finally here! The day the Nerds talk about Anime! Join Aaron, Josh, Cody, and Lee as they discuss the origins, development and broad appeal of that most cherished of artforms...Japanese Animation. They'll lay out the timeline from Anime's forerunners up to all the multitude of contemporary genre's and so much in between! Where did Anime's distinctive style come from? Which one won an Oscar? Can Aaron even pronounce these Japanese titles? Give it a listen and then let us know what your favorite Anime is! This time it's our favorite pieces of literature. The Nerds can read?! Who would've thought?! Come sit a spell and listen as Josh, Lee, Cody, and a special guest, Daniel (Critical Encounters Podcast and The Canon Reviewed), talk about a few pieces of literature that have special meaning and connection for each of them. Hey everyone! This episode the Nerds are settling in, getting comfy, and having a nice relaxing chat about the Cozy Games genre. Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, The Sims, Minecraft, and about a million others have all been referred to in one sense or another as "Cozy Games", or those games that have relatively low pressure gameplay and low tension environments to explore, craft, build, and just exist in. Also, these games make Josh very angry sometimes. Joining the discussion this episode is a special guest nerd, Elizabeth Damron, a Cozy game connoisseur, to lend her expertise to the discussion. Hello fellow nerds! Today we're nerding out about a brand new indie game that erupted onto the scene and gaming news, Palworld! Palworld is an open world base building survival game where you can befriend cute creatures, partner with them to take down bosses and build a sprawling homestead, and ultimately...slaughter them for meat and supplies when times get tough. It has broken concurrent player records on Steam and just dominated the gaming news cycle and honestly, we can't put it down. But where did it come from? What is it truly about? And why the heck do all of these Pals look suspiciously familiar? Come join Josh, Aaron, and Lee as they nerd out about Palworld! Howdy, everybody! Today we're getting divisive! In this episode of The Hills Have Nerds we take on the cultural phenomenon The MCU: its history, its ups and downs, our favorite movies, and tackle one of the internet's favorite screaming points - Is it dying? We feel you'd be hard pressed to find someone in nerdom without a strong opinion on the matter so we're sitting down to yell at each other about it. We do the hard work so YOU don't have to. And honestly, isn't that what being a hero is all about? Howdy, Nerds! We're breaking into 2024 with a new type of episode: a Nerd Out. In these episodes, which will be in addition to our regular monthly episodes (but may not be monthly themselves), we're sitting down and nerding out about something we're really into right now. This first Nerd Out is about the Table Top RPG campaigns that we're currently involved in. Josh, Aaron, and Cody sit down to talk about four different campaigns in four different rule systems. Call of Cthulhu, Pathfinder 1st Edition, D&D 5e (with some Bloodborne thrown in), and a fan created Pokemon RPG called Pokemon Table Top Adventures. Howdy, nerds! We're settling in after the holidays and we're giving out a late Christmas gift to all of you out there of a brand new Episode! In today's episode we're joined by a dear friend of the show, Nathan, to discuss those brick and mortar mecca's we all flock to for our nerdy fix and to siphon discretionary income from our wallets - The Friendly Local Game Store. Nathan has almost 25 years of experience working in and managing FLGS's and shares some insights, shop-talk, and just plain funny stories from his time in Nerdom. We think you're gonna really enjoy this episode and we highly suggest making sure you at least catch the end of the episode for a hilarious cautionary tale about overvaluing Pokemon Cards. Back from a Thanksgiving of stuffing ourselves with Sensu Beans, Super Mushrooms, Tomatoes, Power Pellets, Whole Wheels of Cheese, Citrus Berries, Entire Cooked Chickens found inside walls, and washing it down with hearty glasses of Nuka Cola, Lon Lon Milk, and Butter Beer, we're dishing out a hearty new episode for all the listeners we're thankful for this year. In this episode we nerds get meta and have a bit of an abstract discussion about what it means to be a Nerd, what that meant growing up, how the definition of Nerd has evolved, and what our experiences were and have been throughout our lives of Nerdom. We're doing a giveaway! Read more about it in the description. (We apologize for the audio issues about 10 minutes from the end of the episode. Lee apparently had some sort of demon latch onto him and his voice starts doubling.) And here it is! Finally! The last episode of October 2023, our Spooky Special #2 featuring Lee and Cody! In this episode the boys sit down and discuss, in a little more depth, some of their favorite pieces of horror media. They discuss horror gaming mainstays like Resident Evil and Bloodborne, amazing literature like Stephen King's IT and Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House, and dip into horror movie classics Scream and The Frighteners. We're also doing a giveaway! At the end of the episode our beautiful Adonis of an editor Travis put in a little hidden message. Howdy everyone! The nerds are back this month with an episode about Table Top Wargaming. We discuss what the hobby is, what are some pitfalls to avoid when you're looking to get into the hobby, a little bit of history, those big ole' scary price points and ways to navigate that to Wargame on a budget! May the "fourth" be with you... In this episode we all sit down to discuss those rapid slideshows we all know and love, Cartoons, particularly western animation. (We're not to the anime episode yet, you weebs, calm'er down for now, but know it's coming!) Come listen to our tales of cartoons we loved, both short and feature length, some of the problematic portrayals within, and those we may have not loved so much and how all of it shaped our views of animation and the lessons they delivered. As well as a small glimpse into the history of older audience aimed animation. Also hear Lee utter a phrase that we will NEVER let him live down! Bonus: Josh might be a furry... We were lucky enough to be joined by our special guest Pat! In this episode we start with our regular "topic of the week" format. We're nerding out about Table Top Role Playing Games, our favorite rule sets, themes, systems, and a brief history of where they all came from as well as some tips and thoughts on getting in to the hobby or just being a better player or Game Master. Howdy and welcome, ya'll! Thanks for listening to the first episode of "The Hills Have Nerds". We're a monthly podcast on Nerd Culture brought to you by four guys born and raised in the hills of Kentucky who have a sincere passion for everything nerdy. Come and join us as we discuss some of our interests and have a pretty broad discussion on what we think makes us nerdy in our inaugural introductory episode. Each future episode will have particular topic of Nerd and Geek culture that we "breakdown", discuss our own histories with, and maybe give a bit of history about the topic as well. We'd also like to warn prior that the audio quality isn't the greatest, we've since discovered a much better recording method/positioning and around episode 3 the quality gets way better. Just bare with us as we fumble our way through this stuff and hopefully entertain you guys along the way.
