Now in its seventh season, Switching Title has evolved into a weekly rotation of three sub-series: The flagship titular series can be described as freeform-personal journal-styled and mostly covers bicycling, birding, movies, and music. The Places series publishes field recordings of different locations. That's it. Cacophonous Revel began following a "Radio Show" format to share other artists' music, and currently continues as a project to reveal stories and memories related to and along with the host's original music and their recordings.

I figure out (finally) how to put bird seed out to attract birds to my balcony. I set the recorder near the tray, and you can hear them fly up, peck around, eat, and fly away. It's mainly House Sparrows, and maybe Northern Cardinals. So far.
Busted my bottom bracket, so I try to repair it and hope to continue the #BackyardBRRR Challenge. I do the dishes while I’m waiting. Test rode down to the theater to see 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, and do my wrap-up reviews of 2025 movies.

In the first Places episode of the year we span the holidays that close out the year. The first chunk is outside at a Colorado neighborhood pond and tree that were very lively with bird action, the next part is a pre-dawn recording when my mom and I went outside to check out some Great Horned Owls, and we wrap up the episode by listening to the fireworks from my balcony bringing in the new year.
Back on the bike in the new year. Seeking out the Snowy Owl and started the Backyard Brrr challenge. A Bathtub Confessional later I’m out looking for the Red-flanked Bluetail hanging out in Great Falls National Park.

This episode of Places is a shorty up at Overall Run Falls in Shenandoah National Park. My recorder ran out of room (rookie) so I only got about 13 minutes of audio from along the trail and at the falls, but what I got is cool, so I'll share it. Enjoy!
Had a day off to visit Burke Lake and tried to identify some birds. Juncos are back, plenty of crows (three minutes of them!), and waterfowl. I’m feeling grateful for the changing seasons and observing my level of bird-dom. I search for some lost recording sessions and reflect on Frankenstein movies.

These recordings for Places occurred at a spot called West Thompson Damn, Connecticut. The first of three locations was just outside of a picnic area, the second was at the shore of a little peninsula jutting out near the damn (I move the recorder to a second location after a bit), and the third was by a flagpole near the parking lot. You can always hear the nearby road traffic and Blue Jays, among other birds, such as American Goldfinches and a few different sparrows.
An attempt to document a Coldplay-like dream song and scenario, and heading up to Shenandoah. Sharing my primordial relationship with the Killdeer species, and checked out some Hawkwind on my drive. I underestimate the length of my planned hike and totally “whimp” out! Bird rundown and lots of movie talk, including Shelby Oaks.

This episode of places is the second part of my recordings from Italy this summer. It’s literally just one long recording in the afternoon from a third floor hotel balcony in the city of Amalfi, looking down onto the street and pedestrian promenade, and out over the docks and into the sea. Street traffic, seagulls and sparrows, and eavesdropped passerby conversations ebb and flow in this port city.
I checked out the new Toxic Avenger flick (and rewatched the original, of course.) Did some biking and birding to see an American Golden Plover and a Red Phalarope. Some close encounters of the birding kind. Watching some trailers before The Long Walk.

This episode of Places starts off with a recording on the island of Capri, Italy in the Giardini di Augusto at the Aphrodite fountain. Next up is the waves splashing against the boat as we ferried back from the island to Amalfi. Next is a spot along the Valle Delle Ferriere where I stopped to listen to Long-Tailed Tit calls (I think). Looking over the valley from Pontone I listened the church bells at noon. Next is a few days later from a cafe at the top of Pogerola to get a closer listen to those same noontime bells. Enjoy!
Back for season 6 of Switching title with a couple of life birds - a Willet and a Wood Stork. I went camping at Delaware Seashore State Park and it stormed most of the time, and I liked it. I hid in my car and counted the seconds after I saw lightning. I eventually make it to the beach with no rain. I found some minstrels at work. Fall is here.

This edition of Places is mid-July and, once again, out in the great Cape Henlopen State Park in Delaware. The first 18 minutes is just sitting at the campground in the morning listening to birds, barking dogs, and nearby campers waking up. Then for 8 minutes we move over to a viewing platform in a marshy bay at Gordon’s Pond where I record until until some other birders notice my recorder. Pardon our bird chatter. The final 5 or 6 minutes are up on top of the Hawk Watch platform looking out over the dunes and onto the beach. Bugs, waves, gulls, small planes; all the good stuff!
