The doctrine of the Immaculate Conception states that the Virgin Mary was conceived without original sin. The Virgin Mary gave her name to a 14-year old girl near Lourdes, stating: "I am the Immaculate Conception." Lourdes is a town in southwestern France, in the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains. It’s known for the Sanctuary of Notre-Dame de Lourdes, a major Catholic pilgrimage site. Each year, millions visit the Grotto of Massabielle (Grotto of the Apparitions) where, the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared 18 times (between 11 February and 16 July in 1858) to Saint Bernadette Soubirous. In the grotto or cave, pilgrims can drink or bathe in water flowing from a believed to be, miraculous spring. In the Gospel of Mark (6:4), Jesus says, "A prophet is not without honor, except in his hometown and among his relatives and in his own household". Jesus said this in Nazareth, where he was rejected by his family and neighbors. The people of his home town knew Jesus well, but they didn't believe who he was.
