TravelinTiaras@gmail.com Featuring in This Episode (Part 1) A 3-Week Disney Adventure Kevin and Deborah’s trip was built around something really special: Celebrating BOTH of their birthdays during the same trip A full 21 days / 21 nights in Florida A mix of relaxing time + Disney immersion This is Disney at a completely different pace. Resort Hopping & Strategy Kevin breaks down a smart split-stay approach: Old Key West (7 nights) Saratoga Springs (7 nights – home resort) Copper Creek at Wilderness Lodge (final 3 nights) And shares some real-world insights like: Why Old Key West surprised him (location + walking path) How Saratoga’s layout actually works once you understand it Why that final resort stay at Wilderness Lodge feels like a “reward” at the end Hidden Gem: Walking to Disney Springs One of the best tips in this episode: The Old Key West nature walk to Disney Springs About a half-mile walk Scenic river views Connects directly to Saratoga Springs and Disney Springs A simple thing… but a huge upgrade to how you experience the resort. DVC Real Talk (After 10 Years) Kevin brings a ton of value here: Owning DVC for nearly a decade Why he says it has “paid for itself time and time again” The realities of buying resale vs. today’s prices How he uses points to maximize longer stays If you’ve ever considered DVC — this is real, honest insight. February at Disney… Isn’t What You Think One of the biggest surprises of the trip: The weather Cold mornings and evenings Wearing jackets in the parks Big temperature swings throughout the trip And maybe even more surprising… The crowds Kevin makes a great point:There really isn’t a “slow season” anymore. Geek Meet & Disney Coincidences This is where the magic of the community shows up… Running into friends all over property Meeting up without even planning it And one incredible moment: Talking about meeting someone in the past… Turning around… And they’re sitting right there again That’s Disney magic you just can’t plan. Kevin’s Food Reviews (Unfiltered ) You knew this was coming… Highlights include: The Boathouse Great food… but pricey “Thimble-sized” sliders for $26 Cake Bake Shop Beautiful… but overpriced Honest take: not worth the hype Big takeaway: Portion size vs. value matters more than ever Shout-Out & Wrap-Up Kevin — This is exactly what the show is all about. Not just Disney tips… But hearing how trips evolve over time…How traditions build…And how Disney becomes part of your life story. And the best part? We’re just getting started. Coming Next Week… In Part 2, we’ll dive into: More Geek meet moments More park stories More food takes (you’ve been warned ) And even more of what makes these trips so special Join the Community Have you ever taken a longer Disney trip — like 2–3 weeks — and experienced the parks in a totally different way? I’d love to hear about it. Curt.Stone@GeekinOnWDW.com And don’t forget to join our Geekin’ on Walt Disney World Family Facebook group — one of the best Disney communities anywhere. There’s something really special about seeing Walt Disney World through fresh eyes… And in Episode 661 of the Geekin’ on Walt Disney World Podcast, we get to do exactly that. This week, I’m joined by Nick and Carlin — who just wrapped up an incredible 19-day Disney trip with their seven-month-old twins, Simon and Wiley Jean. And let me tell you… These two may have been the most popular Geeks at the entire meetup weekend This episode is about more than just a trip report… It’s about family, perspective, and what Disney means across generations. Travelin’ Tiaras — Plan Your Next Disney Trip If you’re thinking about planning your next Disney vacation… My wife Margita and our good friend Auntie Judy are the Travelin’ Tiaras — your trusted Disney travel planners. Whether you’re booking Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, Universal, or beyond — they’ll help you plan a smart, stress-free vacation from start to finish. Already booked? You can transfer your reservation to us and still receive expert tips, strategy, and support — a great way to support the show. TravelinTiaras@gmail.com Bonus: There are some great Summer travel discounts available right now, so it’s a perfect time to start planning! Resort Hopping with Twins Nick and Carlin stayed at multiple resorts during their trip, each offering something different: All-Star Movies – a great value option (but tight with twins!) Pop Century – perfect for Skyliner access with a stroller Coronado Springs (Club Level) – upgraded to a one-bedroom suite with cribs (major win!) Caribbean Beach – great location, but a reminder to request first floor rooms with strollers One big takeaway:If you’re traveling with little ones, space + convenience matters more than ever. Dining Highlights They had some fantastic meals (and a few honest takes): Standout Experiences Narcoossee’s – fireworks views + great food Topolino’s Terrace – a must-do (especially the sole + escargot!) Crystal Palace – surprisingly great food + amazing character interactions Yak & Yeti (to-go!) – tuna nachos + margaritas by the water Honest Reviews Chef Mickey’s – fun for characters, not for the food Summer House on the Lake – beautiful, but still searching for that “wow” meal Traveling to Disney with Infants (Real Tips) This is where the episode really shines. Nick and Carlin share real-world tips from doing Disney with twins: Pre-pack and organize your stroller setup Bring MORE supplies than you think (especially pacifiers!) Use rider swap — but know it works differently at each ride Take advantage of Disney’s baby amenities (cribs, pack & plays, etc.) Consider room size — family suites can be game changers Don’t overplan — flexibility is everything One big insight: Disney might actually be one of the easiest places to travel with babies — because of how accommodating everything is. Favorite Moments from the Trip There were so many special moments, but a few really stood out: Seeing the twins react to characters for the first time A magical fireworks moment from the hub grass after park close A sunset safari with a roaring lion at Animal Kingdom Watching the babies take in shows like Festival of the Lion King That first “Disney awareness” moment — when everything starts clicking And for me personally… Holding Wiley during the trip and thinking about my upcoming granddaughter… That was a moment I won’t forget. What This Trip Was Really About This episode isn’t just about traveling with kids. It’s about something bigger. It’s about: Seeing Disney through a new lens Creating memories that come full circle And realizing that this experience keeps evolving through every stage of life As Nick said… These might be moments the kids won’t remember… But we will. Share Your Story Have you ever experienced Disney in a totally new way? Maybe: With your kids for the first time With your grandkids Or watching someone else fall in love with Disney I’d love to hear your story! In Episode 660 of the Geekin’ on Walt Disney World Podcast, we’re back with Part 2 of our Geek meetup weekend — and this is where the trip really comes to life. If Part 1 was about getting everyone together… Part 2 is about what happens when this community is fully in motion. From a full-scale Epcot scavenger hunt… to late-night adventures… to unforgettable emotional moments — this episode captures what makes these Geek meetups so special. The Scavenger Hunt That Took Over Epcot Saturday was the big day. Dan put together an incredibly detailed custom scavenger hunt that had teams of Geeks running all around Epcot solving clues, completing challenges, and hunting down… ducks. Yes — ducks. Teams used a web-based app with geolocation Clues ranged from easy finds to deep Disney details Bonus points came from hidden “duck nests” And a live leaderboard kept the competition intense What made it even cooler? Dan’s son Matt was running “command center” from home, verifying answers in real time and tracking scores. It wasn’t just a game — it was an experience, and one that brought everyone together in a really unique way. Great Food, Drinks, and Disney Detours As always… no Geek meetup is complete without some incredible food stops along the way: 50’s Prime Time Café – classic comfort food and hilarious server interactions Baseline Tap House – a perfect hangout spot for Geeks to regroup GEO-82 – charcuterie, bourbon flights, and elevated lounge vibes Three Bridges at Coronado – continuing the unofficial “burger challenge” And for some of the group… A truly unique experience at the Epilogue Speakeasy inside the Four Seasons, featuring: Hidden entrance and immersive storytelling Florida-inspired craft cocktails A full-on “experience” — not just drinks Meanwhile, others enjoyed a private Epcot fireworks cruise, proving once again that there’s no “one way” to do Disney. The Moments That Matter Most And this is where the episode really hits home. Because beyond the rides, food, and planning… This trip was about people. Curtis shares a powerful moment reflecting on: The friendships built over 12+ years of the podcast Meeting listeners who have become real-life friends And even witnessing a meaningful, almost “meant-to-be” reunion between community members There were also quieter, personal moments: Holding a baby and thinking about becoming a grandfather Seeing how welcoming and supportive this community is to new members Watching complete strangers become fast friends over a shared Disney love These are the moments that don’t show up on a park map… but define the trip. One Last Disney Day Before heading home, the group squeezed in one more day: Animal Kingdom adventures First-time experiences like Festival of the Lion King Snacks at Nomad Lounge and Satuli Canteen Final meals at Homecomin’ and Brown Derby And just like that… Another incredible Geek weekend came to a close. Final Thoughts This episode is a perfect reminder that: Disney trips aren’t just about rides… They’re about connection, community, and shared experiences. What started as a podcast has grown into something much bigger: A group of people who show up for each other A place where friendships are formed And a community that continues to grow, one trip at a time Ready to Plan Your Own Disney Adventure? One of the best parts of the Geekin’ on Walt Disney World Podcast community is that it eventually jumps off the internet and into the parks. In Episode 659, we kick off a two-part trip report from a recent Geek Meet weekend at Walt Disney World where a group of longtime friends and listeners gathered to spend a few days enjoying the parks together. For this trip, Dan, Andy, and I shared a family suite at Disney’s All-Star Music Resort, which turned out to be a surprisingly great option for a small group traveling together. The suite setup—with separate sleeping areas and a small kitchen space—worked perfectly for our home base during the weekend. A Weekend Built Around Community The meetup was inspired by longtime Geek Kevin Curtis-Allen and his wife Deborah coming down to Florida. That gave us the perfect excuse to organize a larger Geek Meet, with around 25–30 members of the community joining throughout the weekend depending on their travel schedules. From the very beginning, the trip was less about rides and more about spending time together—meeting up in the parks, sharing meals, and bouncing from place to place the way Disney trips often unfold when you’re with friends. Highlights from the First Half of the Trip Some of the early moments from the weekend included: A first meetup at Magic Kingdom’s Beak and Barrel, where a big group of Geeks gathered for drinks and food. One of those classic Disney surprises—riding the PeopleMover while Space Mountain was down, giving us a rare look inside the ride with the lights on. A spontaneous dinner trip to Geyser Point at Wilderness Lodge, where the group tackled the famous bison burger. A late-night visit to EPCOT to catch a Broadway-level concert performance during the festival. Along the way we also started an unofficial “burger challenge”—trying burgers at different restaurants throughout the trip and debating which one might be the best on property. Because that’s the kind of totally unnecessary but very Geek-style challenge that happens when you put a group like this together. What Makes These Trips Special As fun as the parks and food were, the best part of the weekend was simply spending time with friends who all share the same love for Disney. Over the years this podcast has introduced me to hundreds of amazing people, and weekends like this are a reminder that the Geekin’ community is something truly special. From longtime friends reconnecting to first-time meetups between listeners, the trip was filled with the kind of moments that make Disney trips memorable. Coming Next Week: Part 2 This episode covers the first half of the Geek Meet weekend. In Episode 660, we’ll continue the trip report with: The EPCOT Geek scavenger hunt More park adventures with the group A few unique Disney experiences And some unforgettable final moments from the weekend There’s still plenty more Disney magic ahead. Some Disney trips are about Lightning Lanes and ride counts. Some are about checking boxes. And then there are the trips that slow down… breathe a little… and become something bigger than you expected. Episode 658 of the Geekin’ on Walt Disney World Podcast features longtime listeners Jeremy and Bridget Ardoin, who brought Jeremy’s 65- and 66-year-old parents to Walt Disney World for their very first visit. And what unfolded was part nostalgia, part gratitude, part community magic… and 100% heart. Bringing the Parents for the First Time If you’ve ever brought someone to Disney who’s never been before, you know the feeling. Will they be overwhelmed? Will they be tired? Will they “get it”? Jeremy admitted he was nervous about keeping up with the pace. But what actually happened? They slowed down. And it turned out to be one of the best decisions of the trip. Instead of racing from ride to ride, they: Took time to admire the flowers and landscaping Let Mom stop and look at everything down Main Street Enjoyed Festival of the Arts details at EPCOT Sat and soaked in shows instead of rushing And that slower rhythm made space for something really special. The Fireworks Moment Jeremy shared his most emotional moment of the trip: Standing next to his parents during the Magic Kingdom fireworks… watching his mom stare at Cinderella Castle with her mouth open like a three-year-old seeing magic for the first time. His dad? Silent. Completely locked in. Those are the moments you don’t forget. And it’s a reminder that Disney isn’t just for kids. It’s for firsts — at any age. Soarin’ Surprise & Classic Ride Love In one of the best “Who are you and what did you do with my mom?” moments of the trip… Jeremy’s mom rode Soarin’… loved it… and immediately stomped her foot and said: “I want to do that again.” Back in line they went. We also had a full-on defense of Carousel of Progress (Bridget’s favorite), Living with the Land heartbreak when it broke down, and appreciation for the classics that only true Geeks understand. PeopleMover naps?Approved.Monorail naps? Also approved. A Community Full-Circle Moment One of the most meaningful parts of this episode was hearing Bridget reflect on returning to Disney after finishing cancer treatment. She talked about noticing celebration buttons in the parks — “Finished Chemo,” “Cancer Free” — and intentionally walking up to those guests to congratulate them. That perspective changes everything. There was even a special meetup moment with fellow Geek and cancer survivor Kate — one of those “divine intervention” park moments that only Disney seems to orchestrate. This wasn’t just a vacation. It was gratitude in motion. A Three-Year-Old and Donald & Daisy One of the sweetest stories we’ve heard on the podcast in a long time came near the end. Jeremy’s sister and brother-in-law are foster parents to a precious three-year-old little girl who joined the trip. While riding the train at Magic Kingdom, they unexpectedly stopped right in front of Donald and Daisy. Shoes were left behind.Scooters were parked elsewhere.Plans were abandoned. And Bridget jumped off the train, scooped her up, and made sure that little girl got her moment with Donald and Daisy. Because sometimes… You don’t worry about logistics. You make the magic happen. It was beautiful. Food Highlights (and Mickey Bar Debates) A few favorites from the trip: Yak & Yeti (house fried rice, potstickers, big portions!) Earl of Sandwich Holiday Turkey sandwich Ganachery s’more at Disney Springs Woody’s Lunch Box kids’ grilled cheese Night Blossom in Pandora And yes… daily Mickey Ice Cream Bars (And no, the ones at Walmart are NOT the same.) Scooter Lessons & Practical Tips With multiple scooters in the group, Jeremy and Bridget shared some practical advice: Bring or order extra cup holders Consider a stroller organizer for storage Hydration matters — even in February It’s okay to slow down That last one might be the biggest takeaway. After years of “rip and run” Disney trips, Jeremy said this slower, more intentional approach made this one even more meaningful. Some Disney trips are about rides. Some are about food. And some? They’re about legacy. In Episode 657 of the Geekin’ on Walt Disney World Podcast, Amanda and her daughter Cora join me to share a truly special mother–daughter trip — one that spanned three generations, featured a farewell to Dinosaur, included a five-month-old’s first Disney magic, and proved once again that flexibility is the ultimate Disney superpower. This wasn’t just a trip. It was a memory-maker. First Stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge (Club Level!) Amanda and Cora kicked things off with a one-bedroom club level stay at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge — and it was a first for both of them. Highlights included: Spacious one-bedroom layout perfect for traveling with a baby Club lounge access with breakfast, snacks, and evening offerings Slower mornings that felt relaxed instead of rushed That unmistakable AKL atmosphere — peaceful, immersive, and unique Traveling with baby Eli (just five months old!) completely changed the pacing — in the best way. Instead of stacking Lightning Lanes and racing park to park, they leaned into a more intentional rhythm. And it paid off. “Last Ditch for Dino” One of the emotional anchors of the trip was riding Dinosaur before its closure. It wasn’t just about checking off a ride. It was about: Nostalgia Shared memories One last scream-fest before it’s gone There’s something powerful about riding an attraction knowing it’s your final time. And you can feel that layered into their stories. Festival of the Arts & Disney on Broadway The trip also lined up with EPCOT’s Festival of the Arts. Food booth favorites and surprises were part of the fun — with some strong opinions on what worked and what didn’t. They also caught Disney on Broadway performances, which added that “this is why we love Disney” energy to the trip. Festival trips just hit differently. Lightning Lane Chaos & Ride Downtime It wouldn’t be a modern Disney trip without some ride drama. They navigated: Ride downtime Lightning Lane adjustments Schedule pivots But instead of letting it derail the mood, they adjusted. And that theme keeps coming back in this episode: The magic wasn’t in perfect planning. It was in flexible thinking. Baby Eli’s First Disney Trip Five months old. First trip. And yes — it was magical. From character interactions to quiet stroller moments, there’s something deeply special about watching a baby experience Disney for the first time. And for Amanda, seeing her daughter Cora step into the “mom” role added another emotional layer to the whole trip. Three generations. One park. That’s Disney magic. Real-Life Curveballs Not everything went smoothly. A surprise 24-hour stomach bug forced some unexpected adjustments. But instead of ending the trip on a sour note, they made a bold move: They pivoted. Pop Century Redemption Arc A last-minute resort change brought them to Pop Century — and it ended up being a highlight. Sometimes the backup plan becomes the better story. The energy shift. The value resort vibe. The fun, colorful atmosphere. It was a reminder that Disney magic isn’t tied to price point — it’s tied to perspective. What This Trip Really Shows This episode isn’t about ride counts. It’s about: Slowing down Sharing Disney across generations Navigating challenges with grace And embracing the season you’re in Whether you’re bringing a baby, saying goodbye to a favorite attraction, or trying club level for the first time — this trip report is packed with relatable, real-world Disney insights. Sometimes the magic shows up in the pivots. And sometimes? It’s in that last roar of a dinosaur. Sometimes the best Disney trips aren’t the most meticulously planned ones. In Episode 656 of the Geekin’ on Walt Disney World Podcast, Dan Robinson joins me fresh off what was supposed to be a long weekend… that turned into an extended stay thanks to snow back home in Maryland. What started as a relaxed couples trip became: A first-ever DVC stay Multiple fireworks-from-the-balcony nights A weather-driven split stay pivot Festival of the Arts food adventures And some classic Dan “Pro Tips” (with just enough sarcasm) And honestly? This episode feels like what Disney trips look like when you’re in a different season of life. “I Can’t Believe I Get to Stay Here” – First DVC Experience Dan and Jill’s trip marked their first stay as new owners at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows. And you could hear it in his voice. His initial reaction walking into the new Island Tower? “I can’t believe I get to come back here.” This wasn’t about characters everywhere or over-the-top theming. Dan loved the subtle Disney vibe — relaxed, modern, chill. He kept coming back to one word: Vacation. And with a theme park view studio overlooking Bay Lake and Cinderella Castle… that feeling only got stronger. Fireworks > Crowds Dan and Jill watched Magic Kingdom fireworks: Twice from their balcony Once from Wailulu And later, EPCOT fireworks from Riviera’s terrace after dinner at Topolino’s They didn’t watch a single nighttime show inside a park. And honestly? That might’ve been the genius move of the trip. Music piped into the room.No crowd compression. No post-show transportation chaos.Easy walk back to bed. That “VIP” feeling Dan talked about? That’s where it really hit. Wailulu, Topolino’s & The Great Burger Debate Food played a big role in this trip — but not in a rigid, over-planned way. Highlights from our discussion: Wailulu Bar & Grill Dan tried the Wayfinder Burger (the one Margita swears is the best on property)… and confirmed: Yes. It lives up to the hype. But when they went back a second time? He forced himself not to reorder it. Which led to one of his Pro Tips: Reordering is safe. But science demands experimentation. Also — they timed dinner with laundry downstairs and fireworks outside. Espresso martinis + clean clothes + fireworks might be the most efficient Disney evening ever. Topolino’s Terrace Dinner at Topolino’s Terrace – Flavors of the Riviera ended up being the emotional highlight of the trip. Brussels sprouts starter.Modern Fashion cocktail.Filet that the server boldly claimed was “one of the best steaks on property.” And then — fireworks from the terrace. Dan said that moment, sitting there with Jill, was probably the moment of the trip. Festival of the Arts – First Time This was Dan’s first Festival of the Arts experience at EPCOT. What stood out? The visual presentation of the food booths The Broadway exhibits inside CommuniCore The Disney on Broadway concert (thanks to my recommendation ) They sampled: Wagyu bun from Japan Colorful sushi Wasabi IPA Hazelnut school bread Viking coffee And yes… Remy’s new 2D version without glasses. Verdict? Thumbs up. The Snowstorm Pivot What really shifted this trip? Snow. With Maryland facing a major storm, Dan made the early decision to extend rather than risk airport chaos. They pivoted into a split stay at the Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel using Marriott points. That decision led to: Walking access to EPCOT & Hollywood Studios Dinner at Tutto Italia Forno on the BoardWalk Splitsville at Disney Springs A chilly 30-degree EPCOT morning with French pastries It turned into a “logistics genius” move — as Dan jokingly calls it. Entertainment Over Attraction Stacking This trip was lighter on thrill rides and heavier on atmosphere. Highlights included: Dapper Dans timing Live jazz in Hollywood Studios New Little Mermaid show (Ariel’s voice blew him away) Country Bears PeopleMover Carousel of Progress Animal Kingdom’s bird show Less stacking. More savoring. Which felt very intentional. Geek Meet at Beak & Barrel Dan grabbed an ADR for Beak and Barrel so we could all meet up. We had appetizers, pirate-themed drinks… and eventually got “politely escorted” out at the 45-minute mark. As good pirates should. Dan’s Pro Tips Dan always delivers. A few standouts from this episode: It’s okay not to have dinner plans. Try something new — even if your favorite is calling your name. Resort balcony fireworks are elite. Always check transportation refurbishments before locking ADRs. Laundry during dinner pairs surprisingly well with island food. When snow is coming… just stay at Disney. A Quiet Highlight One of my favorite moments from the conversation wasn’t even about food or fireworks. Dan FaceTimed his son Matt from the balcony so he could watch fireworks with them — while Matt was back home snow-blowing the driveway. Adult kids who still love Disney? That hits different. Travelin’ Tiaras If you’re considering: Buying DVC Booking a split stay Navigating transportation changes Or planning a relaxed, atmosphere-focused Disney trip Margita and Judy — the Travelin’ Tiaras — would love to help. travelintiaras@gmail.com Episode 656 is less about “what to ride” and more about: Flexibility Smart pivots Resort enjoyment Food discoveries And appreciating the season of life you’re in And honestly? It’s one of those conversations that reminds us why we keep going back. The post From Long Weekend to Split Stay: Dan Robinsons’s Polynesian DVC Debut – Ep. 656 first appeared on Geekin' On WDW Podcast.
Some Disney vacations are carefully planned. Some are spontaneous. And then there are the ones where you stack them back-to-back and just ride the wave of magic for two full weeks. In Episode 655 of the Geekin’ on Walt Disney World Podcast, Auntie Judy joins me to recap not one — but two Disney adventures: First, an 8-night sailing aboard the brand-new Disney Cruise Line ship, the Disney Treasure. Then? Straight off the ship and into Walt Disney World to meet up with Margita and me for Beach Club stays, fireworks dining, and some unforgettable Geek moments. This episode is cruise review, trip report, accessibility insight, dining talk, Broadway-style entertainment… and classic Judy storytelling all wrapped into one. Part 1: Sailing on the Disney Treasure Judy sailed with friends for 8 nights aboard the Disney Treasure — and from the moment her name was announced while boarding, she knew this one was special. Highlights from the Cruise: The emotional “Welcome Aboard” moment Broadway-caliber productions of Moana and Beauty and the Beast The Haunted Mansion Parlor lounge (glowing menus, Hatbox Ghost sipper, interactive effects!) Palo brunch — still one of the best dining upgrades at sea Pirate Night fun and Marvel-themed dining An Imagineering-style ship tour revealing hidden design details The hilarious Jack-Jack Diaper Dash Judy also shared thoughtful accessibility observations — from muster procedures to theater seating to gangway navigation — and emphasized how supported she felt by the cast members throughout the sailing . Ports included Cozumel, Falmouth (Jamaica), and Castaway Cay — with a little hurricane impact story from Jamaica and a Starbucks sighting in Cozumel that genuinely surprised her. But for Judy? The standout memory was simply stepping onto the ship and hearing: “Disney Cruise Line welcomes the Ludwig family!” That feeling never gets old. Part 2: From Ship to Shore — Walt Disney World After disembarking, Judy drove straight to Walt Disney World to join us for a split stay: 2 nights at Caribbean Beach 5 nights at Beach Club Villas (2-bedroom villa) Judy’s Top Disney World Moments (In no particular order…) Seeing Geek friends and surprise meetups Birthday dinner at Le Cellier (prime filet mignon!) Drinks at GEO-82 Rose & Crown fireworks dining package in EPCOT Festival of the Lion King and Finding Nemo shows A solo Magic Kingdom morning with Starbucks and the parade One particularly memorable moment? Judy had a fall at EPCOT security — and her Apple Watch automatically called 911. Thankfully she was completely fine (and laughing), but it made for one of those “only at Disney” stories that will stick with us for a while. Her final Magic Kingdom day was classic Judy — doing exactly what she wanted, at her own pace: castle stage show, parade viewing, Casey’s Corner piano music, and just soaking it all in. Dining Standouts From the cruise to the parks, food played a major role: On the Disney Treasure: Prime rib at Coco’s Marvel dining experience Endless soft serve Palo brunch elegance At Walt Disney World: Le Cellier birthday dinner Rose & Crown fireworks package Wailulu Bar & Grill at the Polynesian Let’s just say… no one went hungry. Cruise Tips from a Travelin’ Tiara As part of the Travelin’ Tiaras team, Judy shared a few great reminders: Don’t try to do everything Use the Navigator app to “favorite” activities ahead of time Pick stateroom location based on your comfort with ship movement Take advantage of cast member support — especially with accessibility needs Whether you’re a first-time cruiser or a seasoned Disney sailor, there was plenty of practical advice in this conversation. Final Thoughts This episode is such a great reminder that Disney vacations don’t have to be rushed. They can be: High-energy and theatrical Relaxed and personal Social and community-focused Or beautifully solo Judy’s trip had all of it. From Broadway shows at sea to quiet parade moments in Magic Kingdom — the magic is often found in the mix. Ready to Plan Your Own Adventure? Some Disney trips are about packing in as much as possible.Others are about slowing down, choosing the right moments, and letting the magic come to you. In Episode 654 of the Geekin’ on Walt Disney World Podcast, the microphone gets turned around as our good friend Wendy interviews me about a recent January birthday trip to Walt Disney World — a trip that ended up being one of the most relaxed, meaningful, and genuinely enjoyable vacations I’ve had in a long time. From great weather and walkable resorts to unforgettable meals, fireworks from the table, and reconnecting with Geeks all over property, this was a Disney trip built on connection, comfort, and flexibility. Where We Stayed This trip featured a short split stay, which worked out beautifully: Caribbean Beach Resort (arrival nights) Beach Club Villas (five nights, 2-bedroom DVC) Being able to walk to EPCOT, enjoy BoardWalk evenings, and head straight back to the room after fireworks made a huge difference in the pace and feel of the trip. A Birthday at Walt Disney World Although the trip started as a surprise (that I accidentally overheard months earlier ), it turned into a full-week birthday celebration. Highlights included: A birthday morning walk into EPCOT through the International Gateway A relaxing mid-day visit to GEO-82 Cast Member pixie dust throughout the week Disney on Broadway performers literally singing “Happy Birthday” It was one of those birthdays that quietly stretches across multiple days — the best kind. Top Dining Highlights Food was a major part of this trip, and Wendy helped me break it all down: Le Cellier Steakhouse – The clear #1 meal of the trip and birthday dinner pick Rose & Crown Fireworks Dining Package – Incredible value, great service, and a perfect fireworks view Wailulu Bar & Grill (Polynesian) – Outstanding burger, relaxed atmosphere, and one of the best views on property Yak & Yeti – A simple but unforgettable chicken and shrimp noodle bowl GEO-82 – Bourbon flight, charcuterie, and the perfect place to escape bad weather We also talked about grab-and-go surprises, lighter meals, and why quick service deserves more love. Experiences That Stood Out This trip wasn’t about doing everything — it was about doing the right things: Moonlight Magic at Animal Kingdom – Nighttime vibes, snacks, and short waits Disney on Broadway (Festival of the Arts) – Including a surprise appearance from the original Ariel Reconnecting with Geek friends throughout the parks Late-night walks back to Beach Club after fireworks I also shared my Top 10 moments from the trip — from a singing bus driver at park close to fireworks from a table in EPCOT. Tips & Takeaways from This Trip We wrapped up the episode with some practical lessons: Walking-distance resorts dramatically change your trip experience Fireworks dining packages are worth every penny Single Rider lines can be a game-changer Don’t underestimate live entertainment and shows Be willing to cancel dining plans and pivot — it often pays off Grab-and-go food can be some of the best food on property Sometimes the best Disney trips come from easing off the gas. This week, Curtis is joined once again by Amy Rhodes, a longtime Geek who knows Disney World inside and out. Amy recently returned from a December trip just before Christmas — a sweet spot on the calendar that delivered lighter crowds, festive energy, and some truly unforgettable family moments. This wasn’t a “do everything” trip. Instead, it was thoughtful, intentional, and full of heart — the kind of Disney vacation that reminds us why we keep going back. A First-Ever Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party One of the biggest highlights of the trip was Amy’s daughter experiencing Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party for the very first time — made even more magical thanks to a surprise Santa letter waiting at their hotel. Amy breaks down exactly how they approached the party: Prioritizing exclusive characters Choosing shows and parades over ride marathons Sampling holiday treats without overdoing it And pacing the night so it stayed magical instead of exhausting The result? A late-night walk to the bus and a quiet moment that made every dollar spent completely worth it. Holiday Food, Party Treats & Festival Favorites This episode is packed with great food talk — especially when it comes to holiday-only offerings. Amy shares: Standout party snacks (including a lasagna flatbread that stole the show) Why party food can sometimes outshine regular menus Smart strategies like splitting meals, ordering kids’ meals, and yes… bringing Tupperware and Ziplocs Festival of the Holidays favorites at EPCOT, including the Cookie Stroll and comfort-food booth wins If you love practical Disney food tips that actually work, this episode delivers. Old Key West, Slow Mornings & Brunch at Olivia’s The family stayed at Old Key West, leaning into quiet mornings and relaxed pacing. Amy talks about: Why Old Key West remains a favorite despite its quirks A slow, satisfying brunch at Olivia’s How choosing calm over chaos completely changed the feel of the trip It’s a great reminder that where — and how — you stay can shape the entire vacation. Shows, Live Entertainment & Candlelight Magic Beyond the food and parties, this trip leaned heavily into Disney’s live entertainment: Holiday shows and performers New and returning stage productions And a deeply moving Candlelight Processional experience that stopped everyone in their tracks Amy shares why these moments continue to matter — and how sometimes the most powerful Disney memories come from simply sitting still and listening. The Moments You Can’t Plan More than rides or reservations, this episode is about the moments you can’t schedule. A child holding a hand.A quiet walk after midnight.A sentence whispered at just the right time. Those are the moments that define a Disney trip — and Episode 653 is full of them. One of the very best parts of hosting the Geekin’ on Walt Disney World Podcast is reconnecting with longtime listeners and friends — and this week’s episode is a perfect example of why. In Episode 652, I’m joined by one of our favorite returning Geeks and longtime friend of the show, Bill Carmichael, for a thoughtful, honest, and refreshingly old-school Disney trip report. Bill recently took a short Thanksgiving getaway to Walt Disney World with his family, and what makes this conversation special isn’t just what they did — it’s how they approached the trip. Fewer park days, more intention, and a real focus on enjoying the moments instead of rushing through a checklist. This episode is a great reminder that Disney magic doesn’t always come from doing more — sometimes it comes from slowing down. Arrival Day Magic & Water Park Wins Bill kicks things off by sharing a surprise highlight of the trip: taking advantage of the free arrival-day water park perk offered to Disney resort guests. Despite cooler weather, a relaxed afternoon at Typhoon Lagoon turned into one of the most memorable moments of the trip — especially time spent together in the wave pool. It’s a perfect example of how Disney’s “extra” perks can sometimes become your favorite memories. First Stay at Port Orleans French Quarter This trip marked Bill’s first stay at Port Orleans French Quarter, and it left a strong impression. From the resort’s smaller footprint and relaxed atmosphere to the jazz music, boat access to Disney Springs, and — of course — the famous beignets, French Quarter delivered charm and comfort in all the right ways. It’s easy to see why this resort continues to be a longtime Geek favorite. Honest Food Takes Around Walt Disney World Food played a big role in this trip — and Bill brings his usual honesty. Some meals were hits, others were misses, but a few moments truly stood out: A rare off day at Disney Springs that sparked a candid discussion about timing, crowds, and expectations A standout lunch at The Boathouse, complete with great company and classic Disney Springs vibes And one clear winner… Steakhouse 71 Breakfast Bill’s breakfast at Steakhouse 71 — specifically Walt’s Prime Hash — ended up being the best bite of the entire trip. Sometimes it’s not the fancy dinners, but the perfectly done comfort food that steals the show. A Legendary Night with Yehaa Bob One of the biggest highlights of the episode is Bill’s long-awaited first experience with Yehaa Bob at Port Orleans Riverside. From the energy and audience participation to watching his family fully embrace the moment, this night turned into one of those classic Disney memories that sticks with you long after the trip ends. If you’ve never seen Yehaa Bob, this conversation might finally push you to add it to your must-do list. Jollywood Nights: Late Nights, Characters & Disney Vibes Bill also shares a deep dive into Jollywood Nights at Hollywood Studios — and why this party worked so well for them. With shorter waits, rare characters, and a relaxed pace, the event delivered a fun mix of rides and atmosphere. One of the most relatable moments? Hitting a wall late at night… and being completely revived by a Mickey Premium Bar and a Diet Coke in line for Slinky Dog Dash. It’s those little Disney moments that often become the most meaningful. Finding the Disney Sweet Spot At its heart, this episode is about something many longtime Disney fans eventually discover: Shorter trips can be just as fulfilling You don’t have to do everything to have a great time And the most memorable moments are often the simplest ones Whether it’s a wave pool on arrival day, dancing at Yehaa Bob, or just being present with the people you love — this conversation is a reminder of why Disney continues to feel like home for so many of us. One of the best parts of hosting the Geekin’ on Walt Disney World Podcast is reconnecting with longtime friends who feel like family — and Episode 651 is a perfect example of that. This week, Curtis is joined once again by Holly and Dan Austin, who return to the show after a Thanksgiving-time Walt Disney World trip that turned into a full-on holiday kickoff adventure with their family of six. From smart arrival strategy and first-time water park fun to marathon park days, brand-new Fort Wilderness cabins, and honest takes on holiday parties — this episode is packed with real-world Disney insight you can actually use. A Thanksgiving Trip Built on Smart Strategy Holly and Dan made an early decision that paid off big: flying in the night before their Disney stay. Not only did this save money on airfare for a family of six, but it also unlocked a free water park day thanks to their deluxe resort stay. They spent their arrival night at Homewood Suites in Flamingo Crossings, an off‑site option that checked all the boxes — large rooms, free breakfast, proximity to Disney, and even Mickey‑shaped waffles to start the magic early. That one strategic choice set the tone for a smooth, flexible trip. Typhoon Lagoon: A First‑Time Family Win The family’s first-ever visit to Typhoon Lagoon turned out to be one of the biggest surprises of the trip. Arriving at rope drop, they found near‑empty crowds, walk‑on slides, and a stress‑free pace that allowed them to experience nearly everything before lunch. Highlights included: Crushing Gusher (and conquering ride nerves) A legendary wave pool A relaxing lazy river loop Surprisingly solid quick‑service food For the kids, the water park ended up being one of the most memorable parts of the entire vacation — a reminder that sometimes the “extras” become the highlights. Fort Wilderness Cabins & Golf Cart Life After the water park, the Austins checked into the brand‑new DVC Cabins at Fort Wilderness — and quickly became converts. With plenty of space, Murphy beds for everyone, and the ability to keep noise contained (a big win for families), the cabins offered comfort and value without the massive point cost of a two‑bedroom villa. The real game‑changer? The golf cart. From zipping to Hoop‑Dee‑Doo Revue to spontaneous Chip & Dale Campfire Sing‑Along fun, the golf cart turned Fort Wilderness into its own little adventure — complete with decorated loops, holiday stockings, and campground charm. Hoop‑Dee‑Doo, Campfires & Classic Disney Fun Hoop‑Dee‑Doo Revue once again delivered laughs, energy, and a hearty meal — earning its spot as a must‑do tradition for the Austin family. Later that night, an impromptu decision led to the Chip & Dale Campfire Sing‑Along, complete with s’mores, music, and low‑key magic that felt refreshingly old‑school Disney. These moments reminded everyone that not every great Disney experience involves a Lightning Lane. Hollywood Studios: Rope Drop to Park Close Hollywood Studios became a 13‑hour marathon day — and the family handled it with zero strollers and full commitment. Key wins included: Walk‑on Rise of the Resistance at rope drop Smugglers Run with the whole family riding together Toy Story Land via Lightning Lane Tower of Terror and Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster thrills A surprisingly fun Villains show They also shared honest thoughts on attractions like Little Mermaid, highlighting what felt worth repeating — and what didn’t. EPCOT: Delays, Pivots & Deluxe Evening Strategy EPCOT brought challenges early, including delayed openings and shifting wait times, but smart pivots saved the day. Highlights included: Soarin’ with no rider swaps A smoother, motion‑friendly 2D version of Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure Fish & chips eaten in the queue (a Geek‑level move) Voices of Liberty and classic EPCOT moments A relaxed Coral Reef dinner before closing During deluxe evening hours, patience paid off with short waits for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Test Track, wrapping up a massive 15‑hour park day. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party: The Honest Take One of the most candid parts of the episode comes from Holly and Dan’s review of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. While they enjoyed: Holiday overlays on Space Mountain and Tomorrowland Speedway Fireworks, parade snow, and seasonal treats Riding TRON at night They also shared frustrations with: Extremely crowded walkways Long waits that never dropped A lack of exclusivity for a premium‑priced event Their takeaway? For some families, a regular Magic Kingdom day on a party date might deliver a better experience. The Great Fried Chicken Battle Food lovers will appreciate the Austins’ unofficial fried chicken showdown: Olivia’s Café — the surprise winner Homecomin’ — massive portions, classic flavors Hoop‑Dee‑Doo Revue — still great, especially on refills Each brought something different to the table, but Olivia’s edged out the competition with consistency and flavor. Disney Springs, Tree Strolls & Cookie Wars On departure day, the family slowed things down at Disney Springs, enjoying: The Christmas Tree Stroll with interactive MagicBand moments Kid‑approved sticker maps A head‑to‑head cookie comparison between Gideon’s Bakehouse and Summer House on the Lake The verdict? A respectful tie — with strong opinions on freshness, portion size, and reheat value. One of the very best parts of hosting the Geekin’ on Walt Disney World Podcast is reconnecting with longtime listeners and friends — and this week’s episode is a perfect example of why. In Episode 650, I’m joined by Amanda Filippone, a longtime Geek, great friend of the show, and one of our favorite trip reporters. Amanda recently returned from a girls’ getaway to Walt Disney World with her sister, and what started as a short trip quickly turned into a full-on Disney holiday adventure. From Annual Pass strategy and Food & Wine favorites to Christmas parties, Jollywood Nights, and those unexpected Disney moments that only seem to happen on property — this episode is packed with warmth, laughs, and great takeaways. A Sisters’ Trip with Annual Pass Freedom Amanda and her sister took advantage of a timely Annual Pass promotion, giving them the flexibility to add days, shift plans, and lean into spontaneity — something that became a theme throughout the trip. With multiple future trips already on the calendar, the Annual Pass wasn’t just a ticket — it was permission to slow down, explore more, and enjoy Disney without pressure. Animal Kingdom: Rope Drop, Rides & Rum Blossoms The trip kicked off at Animal Kingdom, where Amanda experienced: An unusually busy Dinosaur rope-drop (thanks to its upcoming closure) Everest single-rider success and a surprisingly smooth Safari A much-anticipated visit to Zootopia: Better Zoogether, which earned high marks And of course… the all-important Rum Blossom — Amanda’s official “I’m in Disney” drink It was a great example of how early November crowds can still deliver excellent touring days with the right expectations. Hollywood Studios: Rope Drop Wins & Live Entertainment Hollywood Studios delivered one of the strongest days of the trip. Amanda used classic rope-drop strategy to knock out Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror, and Rise of the Resistance before most guests even hit their first coffee. Highlights included: The Villains Show (with a surprise winner) Mixed feelings on Sci-Fi Dine-In and Baseline Tap House A deep appreciation for Disney’s live performers and stage shows This day really underscored how much live entertainment can elevate a Disney experience. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party: Festive… and Chaotic Amanda and her sister attended Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, complete with: Party-day touring strategy A dessert party with themed treats and fireworks viewing Cookie crawls (not always scooter-friendly) While the holiday atmosphere was magical, Amanda noted that the party felt more crowded and chaotic than expected — especially compared to other after-hours events. EPCOT Food & Wine Festival: Hits, Misses & Lots of Cheese With EPCOT playing a starring role across multiple days, Amanda delivered a thorough Food & Wine Festival review. Standout bites included: Impossible Montreal slider Warm Swiss cheese Stone bread in Morocco Fried curry paneer Pretzel bread pudding American pudding cake (a surprise favorite) Not everything was a hit — some items were overly salty or dry — but overall, EPCOT delivered exactly what this trip was about: tasting, wandering, and enjoying without rushing. Amanda also shared thoughts on: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind (song draw included) DuckTales World Showcase Adventure Lounge stops like GEO-82 Jollywood Nights: The Surprise Star of the Trip If there was one unanimous takeaway from this trip, it was this: Jollywood Nights is outstanding. Amanda described it as: More adult-focused Less chaotic than other parties Packed with high-quality entertainment From the Nightmare Before Christmas sing-along to a Muppets-hosted variety show, themed skating, characters like Bing Bong, and a strong finale show — Jollywood Nights stood out as one of Disney’s best ticketed events. The Disney Moments That Matter Most Beyond rides and food, Amanda shared two deeply meaningful moments: Connecting with a family during a dessert party, forming an instant Disney bond Meeting another family whose children’s names mirrored her own — a serendipitous Disney coincidence These moments reminded us why Disney trips stay with us long after we return home. Final Thoughts This episode is a reminder that Disney doesn’t always have to be about doing everything. Sometimes, the best trips are about: Flexibility Shared experiences Slowing down And being open to the unexpected Whether you’re planning a girls’ trip, considering Jollywood Nights, or just love a thoughtful Disney trip report — Episode 650 is one you won’t want to miss. Some Disney trips are planned down to the minute… and some turn out magical because they aren’t. In Episode 649 of the Geekin’ on Walt Disney World Podcast, Curtis is joined by longtime Super Geek and close friend Andy Hoffman, who surprised the Geekin’ community with a last-minute, solo Disney World trip right before Christmas. No dining reservations. No early planning. No rigid agenda. Just a renewed Annual Pass, light crowds, holiday décor, and the freedom to do Disney completely on his own terms. Finishing the show, Curtis and Andy also take time to look back at Disney World in 2025, reviewing the year-end polls submitted by the Geekin’ community — making this episode part trip recap, part strategy discussion, and part Disney year-in-review as we head into a brand-new year. Episode Highlights A last-minute solo holiday trip — why Andy went and why it worked so well All-Star Movies stay — a preferred room surprise and great value location Renewing an Annual Pass — how quick and easy it was to do on arrival Party-day Magic Kingdom strategy — riding Haunted Mansion, Tiana’s, Pirates, and more with minimal waits The PeopleMover paradox — when a “quiet” ride becomes the longest wait Geyser Point’s bison burger — still one of Disney’s best burgers Wilderness Lodge Christmas décor — finally seeing the iconic tree in person Hollywood Studios at Christmas — vintage décor, Echo Lake vibes, and crowd swings Geek meetups — Bar Riva with Rob, quick visits with Wendy Fox and Amy Rhodes Animal Kingdom highlights — Zootopia show, active Safaris, and holiday pacing Satu’li Canteen wins — chimichurri beef & garlic shrimp bowls (so good he went back twice) Single-rider success — Smugglers Run, Test Track, and Remy First-ever Country Bear Jamboree — yes… after all these years One last Dinosaur ride — and grabbing a final souvenir tee Andy’s story is a great example of how Disney can feel completely different — and incredibly refreshing — when you slow down and let the trip unfold naturally. Looking Back: The Geekin’ on WDW Year-End Poll Review As the trip winds down, Curtis and Andy shift gears and take a thoughtful (and fun) look back at Disney World in 2025, reviewing the year-end polls shared with the Geekin’ community. Favorite New Attraction or Show Villains Live emerged as the clear favorite Test Track Reimagined and the refreshed Little Mermaid show followed closely Zootopia earned praise as a fun, family-friendly update Best New Lounge or Restaurant Geo-82 dominated the poll results Cake Bake Shop, Barrel, and Wailulu Bar & Grill also received strong support The Moment That Best Summed Up Disney in 2025 From “planning for months and winging it by day two” to “spending more time on food and drinks than rides,” the poll responses perfectly captured how our Geeks really experience the parks. The discussion becomes a warm, reflective conversation about how Disney continues to evolve — and how our relationship with it changes over time.
