The Long March to Freedom is a monumental procession of 100 life-size sculptures in bronze, telling the story of South Africa’s 350 year journey to democracy through the lives of the individuals so vividly depicted. It is the only exhibition of its kind anywhere in the world and has been 12 years in the making. Each artwork shows South African and international icons, some famous and others unknown, all of whom have passed. The procession starts in the 1600’s and ends in 1994. It also tells the story of South Africa’s diverse history and many cultures.

Delheim is owned by the Sperling family. The late Michael Hans “Spatz” Sperling, was the Patriarch and also a South African wine industry legend. His wife Vera still resides on the farm. Eldest son Victor Sperling and eldest daughter Nora Sperling-Thiel serve as Directors of the company and live on the farm with their families. The other two children, Maria and Nicholas, live in Europe. Short History The Simonsberg is named after the first Governor of the Cape, Simon van der Stel, after which Stellenbosch is also named. In 1699, he granted the freehold of this piece of land to Lourenz Kamfer, a German. It was originally named De Driesprong. The farm had various owners until Mr Hans Otto Hoheisen bought it in 1938 as a retirement home for himself and his wife Deli. DELHEIM comes from the German for “Deli’s home”.
The 2004 Ernie Els Wine received another 5 Star rating in the 2007 Platter Guide, which was the only Red Blend to achieve this rating at the time. Through his hands-on approach, Louis’ blended red wines are unique in every sense of the word. His complete dedication and focus on producing premium wines is evident in the quality of the wines he produces. In 2021, Ernie Els Wines was very proud to receive a 5 star Platter award, as well as a Top Red.
La Motte is one of three wine estates owned by the Rupert family. Hanneli’s brother, Johann Rupert, owns L’Ormarins, formerly owned by the younger brother, Anthonij, who tragically died in a car accident in 2001. Hanneli and Johann are in partnership with the De Rothschild family of France, producing wines on the Fredericksburg farm under the Rupert & Rothschild label.
Van Loveren has been in the Retief family since 1937 when Hennie Retief acquired the land in the Robertson Valley and named it after Christina van Loveren, an ancestor of his new bride, Jean van Zyl. Today, Van Loveren is SA’s largest family-owned winery producing several well-loved brands. Spend the day partaking in fun-filled food and wine pairings that include a non-alcoholic tasting platter and enjoy a leisurely lunch at Christina’s bistro; or go walking in the historic garden, birding, hiking and biking along well-planned MTB routes.
