In this episode, I explore a truth most people never slow down long enough to see:You are being subtly manipulated into feeling unhappy — not by one person, but by the culture, the noise, the constant comparison, and the chasing of dopamine hits that keep your nervous system wired and your mind distracted. This episode is a grounding reminder of what’s actually going on underneath all that: • Why your mind feels “busy” when your nervous system is overloaded • How dopamine-driven habits pull you away from presence • Why your thoughts per minute (TPM) dictate how reactive you feel • How to recognise the difference between genuine intuition and mental noise • A simple weekly reflection practice to reconnect you with clarity • The surprising reason you often hit goals without remembering you set them • And how to break free from the subtle conditioning that keeps you unsatisfiedThis is part practical, part philosophical… but more than anything, it brings you back to yourself.Because insight never comes from me — it always comes from you slowing down enough to hear it.⸻LinksSubscribe to Substack for free here (and get the clarity journal) – https://jamestheclaritycoach.substack.comInsta – https://www.instagram.com/theclaritycoach_jamesBook a clarity call here – https://forms.gle/fkigpxa11r86DhZx6.
This short but powerful episode is all about one thing: slowing your mind down long enough to actually hear yourself again.James shares his Friday ritual — a quiet coffee, people-watching, conscious breathing, and a moment to be completely present. He talks honestly about the mental “RPMs” we all feel: the racing thoughts, the dopamine-chasing, the jittery urge to check Instagram, emails, messages… anything to keep the brain busy. This episode is part practical, part reflective, and fully grounded in real-life clarity. You’ll hear about: How to recognise when your “thoughts per minute” are running too high Why your brain searches for stimulation when you’re mentally overloaded The importance of resisting the urge to distract yourself A powerful weekly reflection ritual to reset your direction How to evaluate your wins, stressors, and patterns without judgement The question that prevents you repeating the same problems next week Why insight doesn’t come from information — it comes from youJames shares the exact questions he uses every Friday to reset his mind, reconnect with himself, and prepave the week aheadIt’s simple. It’s grounding. And it works. If you want more clarity, more presence, and more intention in your week — this episode is a perfect place to start.⸻Subscribe to Substack for free here (and get the clarity journal) – https://jamestheclaritycoach.substack.comInsta – https://www.instagram.com/theclaritycoach_jamesBook a clarity call here – https://forms.gle/fkigpxa11r86DhZx6
In this episode, James reflects on something most people never realise until it’s too late:We’re so focused on fixing ourselves, improving ourselves, or reaching the next milestone…that we completely miss the fact that right now might be one of the most beautiful seasons of our lives. This isn’t an episode about toxic positivity. It’s a grounded reminder to notice what’s already good — the small moments, the ordinary days, the people right in front of you. You’ll hear about: • Why your brain naturally overlooks the good in your life • The “arrival fallacy” — and how it keeps you chasing happiness you already have • How to recognise the moments you’ll one day look back on with nostalgia • Simple daily practices to help you become more present • How gratitude becomes clarity — not cliché • Why noticing what’s good doesn’t mean ignoring what’s hardThis is an episode to slow you down, bring you back into your body, and help you reconnect with the life you’re living today — not the one you think you should be chasing.⸻Subscribe to Substack for free here (and get the clarity journal) – https://jamestheclaritycoach.substack.comInsta – https://www.instagram.com/theclaritycoach_jamesBook a clarity call here – https://forms.gle/fkigpxa11r86DhZx6
Welcome to episode 52 of The Clarity Podcast. In this one, James gets raw and honest about something most people never admit — the quiet, constant self-judgment that runs underneath success.Even after 10 years of coaching, building a business, and helping clients transform their lives, he found himself trapped in the same old thought: “I’m still not enough.”If you’ve ever found yourself chasing validation, comparing your progress, or doubting your worth — this episode will hit home. You’ll hear about: • The hidden cost of measuring success by followers, money, or validation • How insecurity can drive achievement — and quietly destroy peace • Why inconsistency is often a symptom of self-criticism, not laziness • The difference between ego-driven goals and self-aligned ones • How to build consistency by focusing on pride, not proof • The question that changes everything: “Would I still do this if no one was watching?”It’s a powerful reflection on letting go of the need to prove yourself — and learning to create, act, and show up from a place of truth instead of fear.⸻Subscribe to Substack for free here (and get the clarity journal) – https://jamestheclaritycoach.substack.comInsta – https://www.instagram.com/theclaritycoach_jamesBook a clarity call here – https://forms.gle/fkigpxa11r86DhZx6
When life flips upside down, whether through separation, loss, or big change, we often push ourselves to “get over it” too soon.In this episode, James shares a grounded reflection on his own experience of divorce and what it taught him about nervous system regulation, emotional healing, and the simple power of self-compassion.I talk about: • How stress and emotional pain can show up in the body (even when you think you’re coping) • Why trying to “fix” how you feel can actually make things worse • The importance of giving yourself grace during big transitions • How acceptance and nervous system awareness help you move through tough times • Why self-compassion isn’t weakness — it’s strengthIf you’ve ever found yourself frustrated for not feeling “better” fast enough, this one’s for you. It’s a reminder that you’re human and that sometimes the most productive thing you can do is give yourself a break.⸻Subscribe to Substack for free here (and get the clarity journal) – https://jamestheclaritycoach.substack.comInsta – https://www.instagram.com/theclaritycoach_jamesBook a clarity call here – https://forms.gle/fkigpxa11r86DhZx6
Episode 50 – Moving Through Trauma and Negative Thought LoopsIn this episode of the Clarity Podcast, I dive into a question from Simon about how to move on from something traumatic, stop getting stuck in negative thoughts, and stop putting yourself down.We explore the difference between thoughts and feelings, the wisdom of the body, and how truly feeling your emotions can help you release them rather than get trapped in endless rumination. I share practical insights on: How to allow yourself to feel your emotions fully without judgment. The difference between thought content and actual emotions—and why this distinction matters. Why being kinder to yourself is essential for moving through difficult experiences. How children naturally process emotions and what we can learn from them. This episode isn’t about a five-step process; it’s about noticing, trusting, and allowing your own inner wisdom to guide you through difficult emotions. For those looking for a deeper, somatic approach, I also point to resources from my Mental Mastery Toolbox. If this resonates and you feel ready to explore this more personally, there’s also an option to book a call with me to dive deeper.⸻Links & Resources: Book a clarity call: https://forms.gle/fkigpxa11r86DhZx6 Mental Mastery Toolbox: https://www.notion.so/Mental-Mastery-Toolbox-OB-1e339ab8734f80b1bca3dcd5966bb6e5 Subscribe to Substack for free (and get the Clarity Journal): https://jamestheclaritycoach.substack.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theclaritycoach_james
In this episode of The Clarity Podcast, I explore one of the most common questions I get asked:“How do I change my thought process so I can feel more at peace?”For years, I believed peace came from controlling my thinking — reframing it, challenging it, or trying to stay positive. But that constant mental effort only created more tension.True peace doesn’t come from forcing your mind to change. It comes from seeing that your thoughts were never the truth in the first place. When you realise that, the mind naturally quiets down. There’s nothing to fix — only something to see.Listen in to explore: • Why trying to “fix” your thoughts keeps you stuck in them • The difference between awareness and control • What happens when you stop taking your thinking so seriously • How peace of mind arises naturally when you stop chasing it🎧 A grounded reminder that you don’t have to control your mind to find peace — you just have to understand it.⸻Subscribe to Substack for free here (and get the clarity journal) – https://jamestheclaritycoach.substack.comInsta – https://www.instagram.com/theclaritycoach_jamesBook a clarity call here – https://forms.gle/fkigpxa11r86DhZx6
EP 48 – When Do I Get to Be Happy? In this episode of The Clarity Podcast, I explore one of the most common questions I’ve heard over the years: “When do I get to be happy?”So many of us believe that happiness will finally arrive once we hit certain milestones — when the business takes off, when we earn a certain amount, buy the house, find the relationship, or take the dream holiday. But if you’ve ever reached one of those goals only to feel the same inner restlessness, this episode will resonate deeply.I dive into why the belief that happiness comes from the outside in is one of the most convincing illusions we live under — and how seeing through it can fundamentally change the way you experience life.Listen in to discover:Why success and possessions never create lasting happinessHow the “outside-in” illusion keeps us chasing what’s nextThe simple clue that reveals where our experience is really coming fromThe role of your thinking and nervous system in shaping how you feelWhy looking inward brings clarity, peace, and better decisionsSubscribe to Substack for free here (and get the clarity journal) – https://jamestheclaritycoach.substack.comInsta – https://www.instagram.com/theclaritycoach_jamesBook a clarity call here – https://forms.gle/fkigpxa11r86DhZx6
Episode 47 – The Gift of Not KnowingIn this episode of The Clarity Podcast, I explore our relationship with uncertainty. The mind craves consistency and predictability, but life rarely works that way — and often, our best opportunities for growth and change lie beyond what feels safe and familiar.I share reflections from my own journey, client conversations, and daily writing practice on Substack, all centred on how embracing uncertainty can open the door to new clarity, freedom, and possibility.Listen in to discover:Why the brain clings to perceived certainty — and how that can keep us stuckThe role of unpredictability in business, relationships, and growthHow uncertainty can trigger both fear and excitementThe hidden gifts of not knowing — and how it creates space for clarityWhy so much of what transforms us comes from what we could never have plannedSubscribe to Substack for free here (and get the clarity journal) - https://jamestheclaritycoach.substack.comInsta - https://www.instagram.com/theclaritycoach_jamesBook a clarity call here - https://forms.gle/fkigpxa11r86DhZx6
Episode 46 – Seeing Through the Illusion of ThoughtIn this episode of The Clarity Podcast, I share a powerful story from a client conversation that changed the way I saw my own fears during the early days of COVID. It’s a reminder of how easily we can get caught in the illusion of our thinking, and how freeing it can be when we see beyond it.Listen in to discover:Why fear and scarcity often feel so real in the bodyHow two people can see the same future completely differentlyThe role of thought in shaping stress, fear, and possibilityWhy success often comes down to the thoughts we choose to believeThe ongoing nature of this work - like training at the gym for the mindHow noticing the nature of thought makes the outside world feel less threateningSubscribe to Substack for free here (and get the clarity journal) - https://jamestheclaritycoach.substack.comInsta - https://www.instagram.com/theclaritycoach_jamesBook a clarity call here - https://forms.gle/fkigpxa11r86DhZx6
EP45 – The Illusion of HappinessIn this episode of the Clarity Podcast, I explore the powerful illusion that happiness comes from external achievements, possessions, or circumstances and why that belief always leaves us chasing the next thing. Instead, I share how our moment-to-moment experience is shaped by thought, and how dropping beneath the constant mental chatter can reconnect us to a deeper sense of joy and presence.Listen in to discover:Why external wins (cars, holidays, relationships, money) never bring lasting happinessHow our thinking creates our emotional experience of lifeThe inconsistency of relying on the outside world for fulfilmentWhat it feels like to live from presence, stillness, and inner joyAn invitation to notice your thoughts and step into a deeper state of beingSubscribe to Substack for free here (and get the clarity journal) - https://jamestheclaritycoach.substack.comInsta - https://www.instagram.com/theclaritycoach_jamesBook a clarity call here - https://forms.gle/fkigpxa11r86DhZx6

In this podcast James talks about why the brain hates uncertainty, surprises, and not being in control. The brain largely likes to be able to recognise patterns , create predictions, so that it knows how to respond…. If there is no response we tend to go into reaction (fight, flight freeze) There are pros and cons to this, but it shared some light on why you may have a tug of war within yourself sometimes between staying safe in your comfort zone and expanding beyond it….James also talks about how this plays a role in habits , dating, work and business….
In this episodes I talk about how we let other peoples opinions hold us back and sabotage us. the unfortunate truth is , every single one of us, including you reading this will care about the opinions of peopleHow much you care will depend on how much work you’ve done on your own values, your own shadows, your own triggers and how much certainty you have around who you are, what you believe, what matters to you, and what you wantI see this a lot where people hold themselves back because they’re afraid of what other people will thinkThe interesting thing is the opinions that we are most afraid of normally from people we don’t even care about In this episode I share 2 mottos that help and some questions for reflection. I also talk about the tools I use and I share some of those below. If you want to know more about coaching, therapy, somatic therapy, root cause therapy or smashing the gym you can go here -Insta - https://www.instagram.com/james_mindsetandmuscle/Mental mastery toolbox - https://www.notion.so/Mental-Mastery=Toolbox-1e339ab8734f80b1bca3dcd5966bb6e5Book a 1:1 call here - https://www.notion.so/Work-with-James-1-1-1e439ab8734f80068f54ecc8dd5f2232
In this episode, I talk about how all life is suffering. life is hard, you probably already realise that right? The decision we therefore, have to make is whether we are going to suffer and crumble under the weight of our life circumstances and life….or whether we’re able to get present and grounded and enjoy the journey. Life is a hell of a lot harder if you’re being triggered into stress response , hijacked by your nervous system, I’m getting lost in your own thoughts and emotionsAnd it’s a hell of a lot easier if you have the tools and abilities to regulate your nervous system , get out of your thoughts and emotions, and find clarity, peacefulness, stillness and presence….I also talk about the tools I use and I share some of those below. In this episode, I talk about going through a divorce, the absolute chaos of dating, the lessons I’ve learnt, where I’ve been and everything I’ve done to keep myself sane, alive and thriving The last couple of years have been a real test of my skills and ability , and had it not been for the gym, and my knowledge of the mind, body and soul. I’m not sure where I would be.If you want to know more about coaching, therapy, somatic therapy, root cause therapy or smashing the gym you can go here - Insta - https://www.instagram.com/james_mindsetandmuscle/Mental mastery toolbox - https://www.notion.so/Mental-Mastery-Toolbox-1e339ab8734f80b1bca3dcd5966bb6e5Book a 1:1 call here - https://www.notion.so/Work-with-James-1-1-1e439ab8734f80068f54ecc8dd5f2232
