Our Women of SciFi Blend of the Month continues, and this week Scott and Christian are scaling way back: from an astroid destroying the world to three super-powered women trying to understand their heritage. This week, we look at Fast Color, Julia Hart’s 2018 feature. Fast Color is not only smaller in content, it’s one of the least-seen movies yet covered in the podcast. Will our co-hosts uncover a hidden gem?

It’s time for the first episode of the August blend of the month: Women of SciFi. Although female directors have not often been entrusted with original sci-fi films, there are still some interesting options out there. Scott and Christian start their look at this topic with a film that made its director the most financially successful female director at the time: Deep Impact. Coming out the same year as Michael Bay’s similarly-themed Armageddon, Deep Impact made $350 million at the global box office, but was poorly reviewed. Did our caffeinated co-hosts find a hidden gem, or will they side with the critics?

Magic May marches on! This time, Christian and Scott take another look at a 2006 film featuring a magician at the center: The Illusionist. Despite becoming a box office success, and receiving an Oscar nomination for its cinematography, The Illusionist is not nearly as fondly remembered as The Prestige. Our hosts take a look at writer/director Neil Burger‘s career, share some fun facts as per usual, and then dive into the review. Should The Illusionist be remembered? Or is it better left forgotten?

Cinema on Tap’s first ever monthly keg continues with one of the most anticipated films of the year and one of the best-received: Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.
Nolan is back with Cillian Murphy in the lead role for the historical epic about the construction of the atomic bomb. Featuring an enormous supporting cast, a variety of viewing formats, and a practical recreation of the Trinity Test, there’s a ton to get into with this one. We are joined by filmmaker and friend of the show Anthony Fins to talk through the films. Do our hosts agree with the hype, or is one of them ready to drip an atomic hot take?

We…are out of breath. Once again joined by friends of the show Joaquin Dominguez and Max Dominguez, we had an extensive conversation about our favorite films of the year! 2025 was a great year for cinema, and the variety on our lists prove it.
