0:00 - Another Double Dip-A-Roo means another double WIN-A-ROO BABY! The Avalanche obliterated the Penguins, and the Nuggets snuck past the Suns. You love to see it.14:15 - The travel schedule the Nuggets have had this season is brutal. They played a game that started at like 9:15pm MT, flew back to Denver, got home at like 5am, and they have a game tonight. Unbelievable. Also, let's dust off an old conversation we haven't had in awhile...Jokic isn't going to win MVP. It'll go to SGA, Luka, or Wemby before it goes to him. Which is crazy because Jokic is putting up MONSTER numbers this season, and yet his name isn't even mentioned in the MVP conversation. Not one peep. We've become so accustomed to his greatness.31:20 - For the podcast listeners, the bumper song that prompted Brett to ask about cookie jars was "Cookie Jar" by Iration. Great song. Back to sports...the Avs keep winning and the Dallas Stars keep losing. They have a 7-point lead over Dallas in the standings with a game in hand. If they win a few more games, you can put it on the backburner and rest guys down the stretch. That should be the only goal. Mack, Landy, Cale, and Marty Nachos shouldn't have to play in the last 4 games or so.
0:00 - As the Avs and Nuggets barrell towards the playoffs, what do we want to see? What do we need to see from these teams in this home stretch?14:46 - The Broncos won't make a pick in the NFL Draft until the 2nd round. 62nd overall pick. Who should the Broncos target with that pick?31:58 - Gabe Landeskog explained his "lower body injury" in his own words and...yikes. So Brett asked if you had to choose...which sports injuries would you rather have happen to you instead of what happened to Gabe?
0:00 - 4 games, 4 wins for the Avs and Nugs! That's a quadruple WIN-a-roo. What a weekend! Both teams needed those wins. 14:42 - Peyton Watson returned to the lineup yesterday and he looked good, all things considered. Even though he admitted that he was tired because of the altitude. Been there, P-Wat!Also, the tournament was (as the meme goes) absolute cinema this weekend. How did that Vanderbilt game-winning shot not go in?? It was IN the basket!!33:00 - The Avs won 2 games this weekend. The Stars lost in OT and then regulation. That means that the Avs have a 5 point lead in the standings with a game in hand. They don't have the 1 seed locked up, but that certainly helps.Meanwhile the Nuggets...whatever, man. They've fallen to the 5th seed. They could easily fall to the 6th seed. Hopefully not 7th. Point is, just make it to the playoffs. The West is a gauntlet and the Lakers won't stop winning. Play well down the stretch, avoid the play-in tournament, and take whatever comes your way.
0:00 - Brett was worried that Day 1 of the NCAA Tournament wouldn't be quite as electric in the NIL era. And the lie detector test determined that was a LIE. It was awesome! Shoutout High Point and VCU for the upsets. 14:32 - Jaylen Waddle's impact on the Broncos isn't just about what he can do. It's also about how he can help out his teammates on offense.31:09 - The Heat hosted the Lakers last night and Luca dropped a 60-piece. Bam Adebayo was asked about it postgame and he had to tie it back to his 83-point game. HAD to.
0:00 - The Avs lost to the Stars in a shootout last night at Ball Arena. Call this copium if you want, but the Avs looked good. They played their butts off. It was just one of those games. Bednar thought they played well, MacKinnon thought they played well...it just didn't go their way. If they play like that in a 7 game series, we'll take our chances.14:51 - Brett's a big fan of the show Succession. At one point, Logan Roy says to all of his children, "I love you...but you are not serious people." That's how Kaner feels about the Nuggets. This team is unserious. Forget about any championship aspirations. 31:38 - The NCAA tournament beings today! Games on games on games on games on games! It's madness, as advertised. But is the tournament still as exciting as it used to be? Or has the NIL era altered the landscape too much?
0:00 - Last night was a must-win game for the Nuggets and boy did they win! They obliterated the 76ers from the opening tip to the final buzzer. Total domination. Even in a blow out game against a bad team, are there positive takeaways? Did we actually learn anything?14:20 - Jaylen Waddle is seriously talented and the Broncos made a great move. Where does he stack up among skill players in the AFC West?31:46 - USA lost to Venezuela in the WBC championship game last night. So now that's the tournament is in the books...how was it? Did we end up caring about it? Did the players care?
0:00 - Well that was no fun! The Avalanche got absolutely SHELLED by the Penguins last night at Ball Arena. Wedgewood got pulled 13 min into the 1st period. Then Blackwood immediately gave up another goal. One of those nights. Postgame, Coach Bednar said the slow start wasn't Wedgie's fault. The team around him was awful.14:28 - Luca "My name is Luca" Evans wrote an article detailing the lack of moves the Broncos have made in free agency so far. They currently have 94% of last year's snaps under contract. That is crazy! Unprecedented. What's the vibe around the league regarding Denver running it back?31:52 - Brett's noticed that, when team USA beats people, they tend to react poorly in their postgame comments. We saw it in the Winter Olympics. And we're seeing it again in the WBC.
0:00 - The Nuggets lost to the Lakers in LA, and normally we'd say "whatever, that happens." But that loss was INFURIATING. Consistently, the Nuggets struggle to close out winnable games down the stretch. It's a problem we've seen time and time again. It also hurts even more when you lose to the friggin Lakers and friggin LeBron James.13:18 - The Avalanche lost in Winnipeg, which tends to happen EVERY TIME the Avalanche play in Winnipeg. And what happened to them this time? They got...sigh...they got Goalied. There's a reason Connor Connor Hellebuyck willed Team USA to a Gold Medal. Same guy. It's a frustrating loss, but it hurts even more because DALLAS WON'T STOP WINNING.28:42 - The Broncos did literally nothing in Free Agency. Nothing. That's it. They're bringing back almost the exact same roster as last year. Look...we understand that they made the AFC Championship game last year and they were 1 Bo Nix ankle away from making the Super Bowl. But do they REALLY believe that this identical roster can do the same thing next season? They don't need ANY OTHER PIECES on offense?
0:00 - What a HUGE win for you Denver Nuggets baby! Second night of a back to back. No AG. No Peyton Watson. Down by 20+ points. Doesn't matter if the Spurs didn't have Wemby. That was such an important game for the Nuggets. Everyone contributed! Cam Johnson, Spencer Jones, Julian Strawther, you name it. All hands on deck.15:45 - The Avs shook off the Edmonton loss by smacking the Kraken last night in Seattle. While the win is good, Brett has a more imporant takeaway from the game: Scott Wedgewood is this team's #1 goalie. No knock on Blackwood. But Wedgewood is just better.32:10 - The Jaguars Wunderkind Doogie Howser-looking GM (who's actually named James Gladstone) explained why they aren't being too aggressive during Free Agency. And his reasoning actually makes sense. Maybe the Broncos are doing the same thing?
0:00 - Now THAT'S what I'm talkin' about! The Nuggets blew out the Rockets 129-93 last night at Ball Arena. Doesn't matter if Houston was on the 2nd night of a back-to-back. A win like that is a big deal. It was a full, complete team effort. We needed to see that ESPECIALLY at this point in the season.15:52 - Brett has officially become Veruca Salt with the Broncos and their lack of moves during Free Agency. DADDY! I WANT A GOLDEN GOOSE! Or a usable weapon on offense.33:18 - Nelly has a special talent: finding clips from our show to post on social media that will piss off opposing fanbases. OKC fans wanted all the smoke on Twitter, then Oilers fans came for us yesterday. Keep giving us impressions, baby! We're playing for both clicks AND wins.
0:00 - Yesterday, the Avalanche lost to the Oilers at Ball Arena. In the loss, Nathan MacKinnon was assessed a game misconduct for goalie interference and ejected from the game late in the 2nd period. But he didn't intentionally slam into the goalie. He was very clearly shoved into him by Darnell Nurse. I guess the NHL and the Ref saw it differently.14:54 - Bam Adebayo scored 83 points last night, officially passing Kobe Bryant's 81-point game. The only player who's scored more points in a single game is Wilt the Stilt with 100. But here's the thing...Bam's 83 points feels like a sham. Bam's a scam. Brett explains why. Also, the Ravens backed out of the Maxx Crosby trade deal because of a failed physical. Woof. That really throws a wrench in things for the Raiders. 34:30 - So...the Broncos still haven't done anything in free agency yet...that's neat.
0:00 - Nuggets went to OKC last night and lost...AGAIN. They're 0-3 against OKC this year. Man, we're starting to hate those guys. It also reinforces that this Nuggets squad isn't a championship team. It's now clearer than ever.16:13 - The NFL's "legal tampering" window opened up and the Broncos...did nothing. So far. Did the Broncos miss out on anyone? Are you disappointed by the lack of moves?33:09 - JFM signed with the Titans. Will we miss him? Or is it a good situation for both of them? Also, one of our texters accused the Broncos of the "definition of insanity." By running it back with the same roster, they're doing the same thing again and expecting different results. Is that true? Does that sentiment apply here?
0:00 - Friday was NHL trade deadline madness! The deal was dead, and then it wasn't. The Colorado Avalanche brought back Nazem Kadri! Then, the Avs beat both the Stars and Wild in a shootout. What a truly wild weekend for the Avs. 14:59 - The Broncos gave TE Adam Trautman a 3-year x $18.5 mil contract. Take that, DragonSlayer69. Brett's a little confused by the deal, though. What DOES he want to see the Broncos do in Free Agency as this so-called "legal tampering" period opens up?31:38 - The thrill of victory. The agony of defeat. The Nuggets got absolutely OBLITERATED and embarrassed by the New York Knickerbockers at Ball Arena on Friday night. They lost by 39 POINTS. Oof. And to make matters worse...David Adelman's postgame press conference was drowned out by the sounds of the Knicks blasting music in the locker room.
0:00 - OKC and their haughty head coach might be #1 on the Nuggets hate list. If that's the case, the LA Lakers are 1.5. Still hate em. Always have, always will. Beating them still feels like pure heroin. Jamal Murray must feel the same way, because he becomes prime Wilt Chamberlain anytime he plays the Lakers. 15:27 - Right after we wrapped up the show yesterday, the Avalanche traded for Nicolas Roy. How do we feel about the trade? Is he a good fit? Was the price right?32:05 - Right now, the Dallas Stars are the monkey on Colorado's back. They've owned you as of late. It is what it is. You've GOTTA beat them tonight. For so many reasons. Tonight isn't literally a must win, but it's a must win. Period. Also, AG is supposed to maybe possibly hopefully return tonight. Good. The Nuggets have been missing him! I know it's a delicate balance with hamstrings and soft tissue injuries. But they need him.
0:00 - Rumors are swirling about Val Nichushkin being a trade option for the Avalanche. Brett says that's not a good idea. The Avs need to keep him on the roster.14:44 - Our coworkers the LA Rams already provided the winning formula: F*** THEM PICKS. The Broncos are in a championship window right now. They need to copy that formula. A 30th overall pick in the first round really means nothing to you. Leverage your picks for players who help you win now. F em. 31:25 - Yesterday, Lu Dort apologized for his dirty move on Nikola Jokic. That's good and all, but for guys like David Adelman and Bruce Brown, it was too little too late. Doesn't matter. The precedent has been set.
0:00 - The Avalanche dominated the Ducks last night in Anaheim! Gabe Landeskog scored a goal, Marty Nachos scored a Power Play goal, and Parker Kelly got himself 2! Such a complete effort. This team looks rejuvinated after the Olympic Break.Somehow, we dove into the world of Gordon Ramsay and TV shows with lots of yelling.17:01 - The Colts placed the rare Transition Tag on Danny Dimes. The Jets franchise-tagged Breece Hall. The Cardinals released Kyler Murray. The NFL Offseason is heating up a bit. Which free agents are still available for the Broncos to target?32:43 - If you remember a few months ago, Sean Payton took an alleged shot at Russ after the Broncos vs Giants game. And Russ responded on Twitter! A rare Russ response. Recently, Russ went on Bussin With the Boys and explained the interaction. Why did he take the bait?
0:00 - The Avalanche won yesterday and they...SCORED A POWER PLAY GOAL??? THEY ACTUALLY DID IT! You love to see it. They're now at 18% on the PP post-Olympics.15:30 - The Nuggets won last night. BUT...they needed late game theatrics to beat the Jazz by 3 points. A Jazz team that is ACTIVELY TRYING TO LOSE BALLGAMES. The Jazz are literally under investigation by the leage because of tanking. And the Nuggets almost lost to them. That's unacceptable. Brett's officially lost any belief that this is a championship caliber roster. They've lost that trust. They need to earn it back.31:34 - Everyone loves playing revisionist history when it comes to the Nuggets. People were ready to move on from Michael Malone last year. Fans had been beating that drum for years. Now that he's out and the team is struggling, people wish they had him back. How quickly we forget. But it begs the question - how much of the Nuggets issues right now come down to coaching? Is Adelman part of the problem?
0:00 - OKC, their stupid fanbase, and their stupider coach? All on THE LIST. They've officially passed the Lakers as Public Enemy #1. You can't play the villain role, then also cry wolf and act like some innocent scrappy underdog. Which one are you? Lu Dort messed around, but he wasn't prepared to find out.16:17 - It wasn't easy, but the Avalanche beat the Blackhawks on Saturday to end February on a high note. For some reason, it's NEVER easy when they play Chicago. Despite the win, the Avs Power Play is still non-existent. At this point, it's not an anomaly. It's just who they are.32:05 - Brett must be Jonesing for some football, because he actually watched NFL Combine coverage this weekend. His main takeaway? Only a very VERY specific type of player can rock a mullet.
0:00 - Losing to the Minnesota Wild still hurts, even in a cartoon playtime world. Did you watch the normal broadcast, or the Bernie's Mountain Showdown animated broadcast with a virtual Kyle Keefe and Mark Rycroft?14:49 - Remember how the NFL PA Survey/Report cards weren't supposed to be public anymore? Well life...uh...finds a way. The report cards made their way to the interwebz last night, and the Broncos did very well across the board. They received only 2 low(ish) grades, and one of those was a bit shocking.32:43 - The Nuggets are in OKC to face the Thunder tonight! It's a big measuring stick game for Denver. How will they stack up against the top team in the West?
0:00 - The Nuggets beat a top opponent from the East...without Jamal Murray...and they actually played defense...and built a lead late and held onto it...and won a home game...HUH? What is this sorcery?14:58 - No Nathan MacKinnon, no problem. The Avalanche played their first game in a century last night, and beat the Mammoth 4-2 in Utah. How about that wild goal from Parker Kelly to get the scoring started?31:19 - CU lost another coordinator yesterday...Prime's staff continues to play musical chairs. Robert Livingston left CU, went to the Broncos, and took a "worse" job. He's lower on the totem pole now relative to (heh) his old job. What's going on in Boulder, man?
