Both the Hawkeye men and women's basketball teams came up short in tough, hard fought matches on the road in the Cy-Hawk match. Jan Jensen's squad was down 17 late in the third quarter but was able to claw back into the game in the fourth and make it a 3 point game with a few minutes left. A Taylor McCabe 3 to tie it was blocked without a foul call. The men started off hot and led for most of the first half, but a devastating 16-0 Cyclone run to start the second half all but doomed the Hawks from a massive road upset. Iowa did make it tough, coming within 2 points in the final minute, but a missed chance at a turnover, a defensive rebound and then a foul in the final seconds sealed the win for Iowa State. Iowa beat Nebraska 40-16 on Black Friday, marking the Hawks 7th straight win against the Huskers in Lincoln, the largest winning streak against Nebraska since Oklahoma won 8 in row there from 1943-57. Mark Gronowski threw for 166 and a touchdown, adding 64 rushing yards and another two rushing TDs. The defense stiffened up after allowing Emmett Johnson to 177 yards in the first half.
