Falcons come in hobbled, but as we all agree, this game is never short of surprises and just weird happenings that don't make sense. "JUST" like we predicted...the Saints marched right into Carolina and DOMINATED the Panthers behind incredible QB play from their rookie Tyler Shough! Obviously....sometimes it's nice to be wrong, and that was definitely the case after Sunday. Before the game, we thought our defense would be gashed by Rico Dowdle (54 yds, 2.9 ypc); and we thought Shough would definitely struggle against a stout Panthers D (282 yds, 2 td, 0 int). Like we said, nice to be wrong sometimes. We go full-in on all the highlights and encouraging signs. Do we still want to see more out of...Moore? AND does Shough's performance on Sunday give us reason to re-think the 1st Round QB draft strategy - or - was it "just one game" and we need to see more before we abandon the "draft a QB first" mentality? First, whatever Baker…. Now, moving on.It’s been a while since our Boys in Black & Gold have been 1-6. Kinda reminds us of old times…But, we know what this year is, so question is: Will we see our Saints bounce back and at least perform better this week than last? Obviously, we want the W, but an upset/win would be lagniappe at this point. We get into what we want to see in this one and what we think we’ll actually see.The McCoy injury, for one, is scary - add Vita Vea literally on top of that injured spot, and man, can already feel the involuntary cringe. We know, we know "DA Revenge Game"...Welp, he got it. His defense made the Saints offense look pretty inept, and seemingly exposed what happens when Rattler gets more aggressive with his passing decisions. But, it was not without "some" positives - two solid drives to close out first and open second half - more strong play from some rooks; but...the positives just about ended there. We all agree that Rattler's performance against the Bucs coming into the dome will tell us a lot about his ability to bounce back and, more than likely, a lot about how much longer he'll get the nod at QB1.ALSO, with the Nov. 4th trade deadline looming, we get into guys who we think are "likely" candidates to get moved by LooMISS at the deadline, who's on the "bubble," and who do we think we "should" trade in order to get value while we still can. Another one-score loss in the books against a decent opponent, and similar to the other ones, this one had some positives that can be taken away but also exposed some glaring weaknesses in this roster.. We all agree this was Spencer Rattler's best game yet, as he continues to show improvement. Also, Kellen Moore appeared to do all he could from a play-calling perspective, but it was certain key skill players who we should be able to rely upon that dropped the ball...LITERALLY. We break down those who frustrated and give flowers to those who played their asses off despite their teammates woes. Took five games, but WE GOT ONE! Was great to see Kellen Moore get his first win as an NFL head coach, see Rattler get the monkey off his back/end the winless streak as a starter, and simply see the home crowd have something to cheer about. Now…did the Giants help us out a decent bit with a multitude of mistakes? Sure, but at the end of the day, the Saints capitalized when they needed to. Our Saints are back in the Dome on Sunday, but we have made our annual fall beach trip to Destin, FL but that didn't stop us from dropping our PREVIEW EP this week. By far the best thing from Sunday's bout against the Bills (at least from a loss) was that the Saints squarely put their performance against Seattle in the rearview - or, at least, successfully avoided a repeat terrible performance. We all agree there were definitely positives to take from this one, i.e. a serious/legitimate looking rushing attack, total reduction in bonehead/presnap penalties, and much more competitiveness against a much more talented road opponent (than last week vs. Seattle). BUT...(there's always a "but"...especially with this team) we also agree, there are some serious and significant pieces which require difficult conversations. For instance, Rattler has improved greatly from last season, but has he plateau'd?? He's had four weeks now to show improved accuracy but the same mistakes continue to be made. Also, is Olave simply "not that guy" and trading him is looking like a no-brainer, assuming we can even get anything for him at this point? Definitely pleased to see the team compete against one of the league's best, but still much for the team to figure out. TUNE IN! Man. We knew we were in "rebuild" mode, but still didn't think we'd see it look that bad this year. Hard to describe the Saints loss in Seattle as anything other than embarrassing. If it could go wrong, it did go wrong. Naturally, this led us to some heated discussion and debate, plus a lot of venting about some of the glaring things that went wrong in this one. We agree that Rattler in no way lost this one - this was a total team level of let down - BUT, did another week of him under center show that the Saints need more out of the QB position to be competitive. Does it mean we'll see Shough sooner now? Or, will Moore stick to his words from when he named Rattler QB1, i.e. that he won't have a short leash?TUNE IN to find out. We bring the heat in this one. The Saints first road trip of the season is a long one as they head up to the Pacific Northwest (Kaden Ellis Country!) to take on the Seahawks in Seattle. Coach Moore said earlier this week that he loves road games because they bring the team together, so we'll see if that's the case. Corey and Max break this one down, Nick had to sit this one out due to some work trip obligations, but per usual, we bring the heat in breaking this one down. PLUS it's another week of COREY'S LOCKS! Like the Saints, Corey is in search of his first win/LOCK of the season and he's been "this close" in both of them so far. He's feeling good about this one/feeling like he's "due" TUNE IN to find out if it's one you can take to the bank and to hear our game predictions. WHO DAT?!
Two straight home games for the Saints to open the Kellen Moore era and it's now two straight one score losses, ending on potential game-winning drives for the Saints. In the not-too-distant past, this would have had the whole fan-base up in arms; but, since it's the first two games for a first year head coach and coaching staff, this is "to be expected", right?? We all agree the leash should be reasonably long for Coach Moore, and Staley (as far as the defense goes); but, we still dive in to our thoughts on the game as a whole. Rattler had his best game to date, but should we still ask for more out of him when it comes to some of the finer points? Also, wtf is up with Olave? and...Juwan continues to "amaze".... Put it this way, on-field "production" has rarely looked so bad. But, can the team turn it around, or at least show signs of putting all the pieces together? TUNE IN to get our takes on it!
