Welcome back everyone, to the Hike’s peak podcast, thank you for coming back to the mountain! We have a wild week of basketball to go over, with there being more chaos off of the court than on it! The most shocking news came from Air Force, who fired head coach Joe Scott for his “treatment of cadet-athletes”. We’ll dive into his tenure in Colorado Springs to try and find out what went wrong, and we’ll then talk about big time wins for San Diego State and Grand Canyon, though the Lopes upset of Utah State wasn’t without its own outside controversy. To end the show, we’ll talk about the coldest team from the last week, who is unfortunately one of the three teams we tagged last episode. It featured 78 players across all three teams, each of them getting a write-up on their journey to the Mountain West, along with an honorable mention section and overall trends that I found during the process. In total, it spans four parts and over 20,000 words, so don’t feel like you have to read all of it, but maybe scroll through and look at the stories of some of your favorite players from 2025! Did you know that New Mexico star edge rusher Keyshawn James-Newby was originally more focused on his engineering degree than his football career? Or that Fresno State linebacker Jadon Pearson played for five different schools and 25% of the Mountain West? Welcome back everyone to the Hike’s Peak podcast, thank you for coming back to the mountain! The final week of the regular season was utter chaos, as New Mexico stunned San Diego State in double overtime to send us to a four way tie for first. After the computers crunched numbers for two days, it was announced that the conference championship would be between Boise State and UNLV, leaving the Lobos and Aztecs on the outs. I have a lot of thoughts on how this tiebreaker stuff went down, so we’ll start the show there, and then we’ll talk about the absolute classic that was San Diego State versus New Mexico, because that truly was the game of the year in the Mountain West. After that, we have our first head coaching hire of the offseason, with Colorado State officially tabbing UConn head coach Jim Mora as their next showrunner. Welcome back everyone to the Hike’s Peak podcast, thank you for coming back to the mountain! We had another action-packed week of football, with San Diego State, UNLV, and Fresno State all continuing to pick up steam with solid victories. We’ll break all of those games down, but maybe more importantly, we’re kicking the show off by heading to the court house to talk about the ongoing legal battle between the Mountain West and PAC 12. We’ll go over the case from both sides, the most recent updates, and the impending fallout that’s coming whenever a decision is reached. Welcome back everyone, to the Hike’s Peak podcast, thank you for coming back to the mountain! Week 5 is in the books, and some teams are sitting prettier than others. To kick us off, we’re going to look at a historic week for Mountain West quarterbacks, and what that means for the rest of the season. Then, we’re taking a few teams to the doctor’s office to diagnose what’s going on with them, good or bad! The squads in question are preseason favorites Colorado State and San Jose State, who both have only one win at this point, as well as New Mexico, who continues to look locked in as they won the Rio Grande Rivalry in front of their first sold out home crowd since 2007. After that, we’ll spend some time talking about some rumors that linked UNLV head coach Dan Mullen to the recently-vacated Arkansas job, and whether or not I believe them. To end the show, following our Hike’s Peak player of the week of course, we’ll break down the biggest non-conference game of the season, with Boise State travelling to South Bend to take on #22 Notre Dame. All of that is coming up right now, let’s dive in!Show Notes:Historic Week of QB Play (Maddux Madsen, Micah Alejado, Walker Eget, Jack Layne, & Liam Szarka)Colorado State, San Jose State, & New Mexico go to the doctor's office for check-ups.
