Description
Explore challenging questions about Christianity in thoughtful, informed, and intellectually stimulating conversations that deepen the connection between faith and reason. Set within the historic Christian tradition, this podcast discusses current scientific, philosophical, and cultural issues as it pursues a faith that better understands and an intellect that has reason to believe. In a time when the world seems to be losing its mind, and hope along with it, our goal is to equip a new generation of critical thinkers who can defend their faith with reason and evidence. Hosted by Dr. David Andersen & Dr. Adam Francisco

Luke's Acts of the Apostles tells the story of the earliest Christians. The second half of the book centers on the evangelistic (and apologetic) activity of St. Paul. In this episode, David and Adam talk about Paul's trip to the birthplace of philosophy--Athens--and the stoic and epicurean philosophers he spoke to on Mars Hill. Most of it was rectified in the processing of editing, although we are aware there are a few seconds-worth of glitches in the first five minutes of recording.) Nearly two decades ago, Pope Benedict XVI (formerly Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger) delivered what is often called the Regensburg lecture. Though it was meant to rekindle the relationship between faith and reason (or science and theology) in higher education, much of the world—or at least the Muslim majority world—got distracted by a brief reference he made to a fifteenth-century dialogue about Islam, its theological voluntarism, and the consequences of such a view of God. This episode marks the beginning of a conversation on the Regensburg lecture. For the text, formally titled "Faith, Reason and the University", click here. If you are interested in the controversy it generated, Wikipedia is a good place to start. Enjoy. David and Adam have spent the last two and half months exploring both the philosophical and scientific evidence for God's existence and the historical evidence for the resurrection and deity of Jesus. The case for both is strong (and your hosts have only really scratched the surface). Even so, unbelief persists. In fact, the data from every relevant survey suggests it is on the rise. This episode reflects on this issue--that despite the evidence, Christianity is still regarded as something akin to a cleverly devised myth--and offers some observations on how Christians might continue to bear witness to the faith in the public arena. The first Christians believed Jesus was Lord and God. This episode explores how this could be given the monotheism of Judaism. The only explanation, David and Adam argue, is the fact of the resurrection.
