In this episode we are looking at Malachi 1. In this chapter God informs the priests and people that their worship is utterly useless to him. So much so that he tells them to just shut the doors to the temple. What were the people doing that warranted God to say this? And is my heart and worship so far removed from what God wants that he would say the same thing to me today? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In this episode we are exploring a scathing rebuke that the apostle Peter issues against false teachers. This section and others like it might be some of the more overlooked sections of the Bible. When we live in a Christian culture that believes any so-called “teacher” or “preacher” is correct no matter what they say, we need this reminder from Peter that not all teachers have good motives. What is my responsibility when it comes to calling out false teachers? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In this episode we are in Psalm 142. In this prayer David teaches us how to be completely open and seen by God. Especially when we feel alone and there is no one else we can turn to. Through David’s example it forces us to ask ourselves a few questions. Do I open up to God completely and fully when I am overwhelmed? Do I seek comfort in things that won’t help me? And what should I do the next time I am surrounded by doubts and fears? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In this episode we are in Jeremiah 26.In this story, God’s prophet Jeremiah is instructed to deliver a hard message to God’s people in Jerusalem. However, they were not thrilled to hear the message from the Lord. How do we respond when we hear something from God’s word that is difficult to hear? Do we dismiss it? Or are we the kind of people that humble ourselves and repent? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In this episode we explore the idea from Jesus’ prayer in John 17 that his disciples remain in the world, but not be of the world. Thankfully, we have many examples in Scripture of godly people who showed us how to do this. Among those examples we will explore are Daniel and his 3 friends. What does it take to be in the world but not of the world? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In this episode we take a look at a city named Tyre. This biblical city located off of the coast of the Mediterranean Sea had judgment proclaimed on it in an interesting way. It took a few different world powers to bring about its destruction, but to no surprise, we see God’s hand over the whole thing. What can we learn from Biblical prophecies such as this? And do I really see that the same God is just as in control now as he was then? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In this episode we are taking a look at often forgot story about a man named Abimelech, found in Judges 9. In this story this man tries to take on the role of a king over the people. However, there is a wise warning that comes from Abimelech’s brother, Jotham, about what it would look like if Abimelech became king. Through this story we learn what happens when someone out of selfishness decides to exalt themselves. We are left asking the question: am I the kind of person who humbly serves, or do I seek positions of authority that don’t belong to me? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In this episode we are looking at something Jesus said to his disciples in John 15. This final moment for Jesus and His disciples shows us what Christ’s expectation for us is when he leaves the earth. His encouragement had one central theme: Love. How we love our brethren can and will show Jesus how dedicated we are to following him. We are also taught to place our love for God and His people far above our love for self. Am I someone that loves the way that Jesus did? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In this episode we look at various examples in Scripture of people who stood firm in their faith, even though they felt alone. What we will learn is that often when we feel that loneliness, there are others we don’t know about. But in that isolation, I can learn a lot about myself and my level of commitment to God. Will I succumb to pity parties and self-loathing in these dark moments? Or will I learn to trust God more and lean on him for strength? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In this episode we are in Ezekiel 14 where 3 faithful men are used as an example for a faithless generation. Through these men’s lives we see how dedicated they were to saving others that were with them in situations where suffering was inevitable. What can I learn from them? And how can I imitate their faith and save others in my own generation? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In this episode we are looking at 2 parables Jesus tells in Luke 15. These teachings were prompted by the Pharisee’s shock that Jesus would receive sinners. Through the story, Jesus challenges us to realize how much love and concern someone must have if they want to save a soul. But even deeper, we learn how God values a soul straying into darkness. What is my attitude toward those that are not saved? And how do I develop a heart of compassion that matches the Lords? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In this episode we finish the book of Colossians and talk through the 4th chapter. Paul calls our attention to the devotion it takes to be a person of prayer. But then also demonstrates how close he was with many of the Colossian brethren despite having never been there. Am I as devoted in prayer as I ought to be, and do I form close bonds with other brethren in a spiritual and meaningful way? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In this episode we continue in the book of Colossians, as we pick up in chapter 3 we will discuss what it means for the word of Christ to dwell inside of us. In order for that to happen, there are certain habits and attitudes I need to leave behind since I have put off the old man. Only once that has happened can Christ work in me to grow into the new creature that is renewed according to the image of my creator. Am I willing to allow this transformation to take place? In this episode we continue in the book of Colossians, specifically picking up in chapter 2. In this text Paul calls on Christians to find their fulfillment inside of the fullness of Christ. There is a real temptation to go to worldly philosophy and fleshly practices to promote spiritual growth, but here Paul condemns it. What earthly things am I turning to that actually distract me from growing closer to God? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In this episode we begin working through Paul’s letter to the Colossians. In this opening chapter we see Paul pray about God’s power that is at work in these brethren. This power was also displayed through Jesus Christ and his redemptive work on the cross. Do my prayers match the depth of Paul’s prayers, and do I strive to let God’s power through Jesus to change me into a mature disciple? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In this episode we draw on the examples from the previous 3 podcasts to answer a crucial question: what must I do to be saved? Many people and Bible teachers will give varied answers to this question. Some include steps that others do not include. But what does the Bible say? What conditions must I meet if I want to have my sins forgiven?  Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In this episode we continue a brief series that covers the conversion stories in the book of Acts. In chapter 16 Paul finds himself preaching in a Roman city called Philippi. After upsetting some townsfolks due to his preaching and miracles, Paul finds himself in prison with his preaching companion Silas. What opportunities for evangelism will be afforded to them in a place like that? And what does the message of salvation include for those they preach to? Hosted on Acast. In this episode we continue talking about some conversion stories found in the book of Acts. In chapters 10-11 we are introduced to a Gentile man named Cornelius who feared God and sought to know him. When the apostle Peter was sent to preach to him, it started a change in the Lord’s church that made it evident that all men, including Gentiles, are welcome to enter the body of Christ. What does this message of salvation mean for me? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In this episode we are looking at the conversion story of the Apostle Paul, who was formerly known as “Saul”. While on the road to Damascus this former persecutor of God’s church encounters Jesus and his life is changed forever. Throughout the book of Acts his story is told a total of 3 times, and reveals to us what we must also do if we want to be saved.  Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In this episode we are in the first few chapters of the book of Ezekiel. While the children of Israel are exiled in Babylon, Ezekiel is called by God to go and preach to his fellow man and is informed that they will not want to listen to what he has to say. Why would God send someone to people who refuse to hear? And what does God expect of me and my preaching today? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
