What a treat for you today! We have 2 Guests for your audio enjoyment! Paul Beaulieu is certainly one of, if not THE, Super-est of RUSH Superfans (as well as quite the accomplished musician). Along with Steve Brown, the Scottish version of Alex Lifeson, and just as huge as a Super Fan as Paul, as well as creator of RushFest Scotland in 2014, these 2 incredible people are bringing to Toronto the Innaugural RushFest Canada! All profits will be going to Sunnybrook Hospital for Brain Cancer Research, in honour of Neil Peart and family, and of course to his bandmates. This is purely an incredibly organized Fan Event, and these two incredible human have brought together performers such as Jonathan Dinklage, Jacob Moon, Nina DiGregorio & Brody Dolynuik, Chris Herin, David Barrett, Adi Berk, Moving Pictures (UK), and Kevin J. Anderson. Additionally, there will be special guests such as Terry Brown (Rush's producer) and Hugh Syme (Rush's art director). The event will also feature stunningly-accurate tribute bands like 2112 and Permanent Waves, and the RUSHfest Canada Allstars Bands. There will also be an auction to raise even more funds. Held at Toronto's iconic Massey Hall, which is where Rush's 1975 All The World's A Stage was recorded, and exactly 10 years after their very last performance as RUSH. Listen to our great chat, with some amazing stories, and see how well you do with our Superfan Trivia! Note: one question had an incorrect answer from our part, we have since obtained the accurate answer from Alex Lifeson himself, comment if you think you got it!
We sit down and discuss his incredible podcast, #oasis and the #oasisreunion, #nirvana, #ticketmaster, and more! The incredible Alan Cross has amassed decades of journalistic music experiences, eclipsed only by his extremely deep knowledge of over 100 years of recorded music from the inside out. The Ongoing History of New Music is widely acclaimed as one of the best music series that's ever existed and you certainly could not grow up in Southern Ontario without knowing the iconic voice and creator behind it. "The Science of Song, How and Why we Make Music" is a fabulous book our guest also authored, and his interviews with just about every iconic musician and band that has ever existed sets him apart from nearly all other journalists in the genre. Currently coming off a set of Salon Talks, he is recharged and ready to keep diving into his newest Podcast: Uncharted, Crime and Mayhem in the Music Industry. Please allow us to be so lucky to welcome BACK to the show, our very FIRST guest in Season 1: Alan Cross!!
Here we are!! Season 2 Finale! Finally Fearless Fred!! The long-awaited very special episode with the one and only. You know him as the former 102.1 The Edge radio personality who was the voice of Generation X, now hear him in his 8th year with Toronto's Q107. Just before this interview he was set to head to San Diego's Comicon and push his print porveyors of drastic drama's in the cosmic-comic space, most notibly his efforts with Mud79, Dead Romans, Diablo, Assassins Creed, just to name a few. He's a busy man, a lover of the hottest peppers you can find, and his house was most certainly haunted. He's a fantastic human, he can tell a story like no other, and we were blessed to have him join us!
He began his stairway to a career in Music Education at Fanshawe College, eventually leading him to work at MuchMusic. A prominent member and songwriter for the Toronto band New Regime, he's also worked with the Canadian greats such as the Northern Pikes, Corey Hart, some band named RUSH that I'm sure no-one has ever heard of, and even the iconic SLASH from Guns N' Roses has kissed his presence. He's recorded albums as a solo artist, as part of bands, and as Soundtracks to television shows, including, of course, his own. However, his love of Temagami and canoes, as well as the hallow synth-pop movement of the 80's, turned his career in a completely opposite direction. Becoming a hardcore survival expert, a guide for Black Feather Wilderness Adventures, and a person comfortable in solitude on snowshoes, he brought to the world one of the greatest one-man-show projects on television in the now infamous "Survivorman". Most recently you will find him with the likes of Slash again, and Billy Gibbons, on Slash's new Blues Album, as well as his latest endeavour in his own Ancients Call, streaming on all music platforms now. He's officially played with Slash more times than Corey has been camping, the Harmonica Hounder, Canada's Chief Scout, and the Survivorman himself: Les Stroud!
He's the ryhthm machine that blasts your chest with rock beats propelling The Tea Party into sonic sweetness. He's also an incredible giver, charity supporter, and someone with a head of hair that all should bow down to. If you put all that together, you've got Jeff Burrows. Check-out this all-new interview, only on Renostate Rocks, as we chat about life growing up, real estate adventures, love of charity work, and some holy-grail relics he owns from one of his personal idols.
