April brings a natural shift. The light changes, the air feels different, and almost without thinking, we start to clear things out of our homes, our schedules, and our energy. In this episode, we explore how that instinct connects to saucha, the first of the Niyamas from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, often translated as cleanliness or purity. But saucha goes far beyond surface-level cleaning. It’s about creating space (physically, mentally, and emotionally) so we can move through life with more clarity, intention, and ease.In this episode, I’ll walk you through how to take this seasonal experience your students are already having and turn it into a meaningful, embodied theme in your yoga classes. We’ll explore how to:Translate the concept of “spring cleaning” into a relatable dharma talkWeave the theme of clearing and releasing into movement, breath, and cueingUse simple, repeatable language (your thematic throughline) to reinforce the message throughout classHelp students carry the practice off the mat without overwhelming themThis is a reminder that your themes don’t need to be complicated. Some of the most powerful teachings are already happening in your students’ lives.Your role is to help them notice and experience it in a new way.Share it with a fellow yoga teacher Subscribe so you don’t miss future episodes Leave a 5-star review to help more teachers find the podcastAnd as always, thank you for being here and for the work you’re doing to create meaningful, intentional classes.Thank you for listening, for practicing, and for choosing (again and again) to show up with care.If you enjoyed this episode, please consider leaving a review or sharing it with someone who might need this reminder today.Follow Theme Weavers Yoga on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theme_weavers/Theme Weavers Academy: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/theme-weavers-academy Energize Your Life: A Chakra Workbook For Personal Transformation: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/chakrabook Bite Sized Yoga: Short Classes For Busy Lives: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedyogaBite Sized Yoga: Self Myofascial Release: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedsmr Email: themeweaverspodcast@gmail.comTo Subscribe and Support the Podcast:https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/theme-weavers-podcast/subscribeIf This Episode Resonated:Share it with a fellow yoga teacher Subscribe so you don’t miss future episodes Leave a 5-star review to help more teachers find the podcastAnd as always, thank you for being here and for the work you’re doing to create meaningful, intentional classes.Thank you for listening, for practicing, and for choosing (again and again) to show up with care.If you enjoyed this episode, please consider leaving a review or sharing it with someone who might need this reminder today.Follow Theme Weavers Yoga on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theme_weavers/Theme Weavers Academy: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/theme-weavers-academy Energize Your Life: A Chakra Workbook For Personal Transformation: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/chakrabook Bite Sized Yoga: Short Classes For Busy Lives: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedyogaBite Sized Yoga: Self Myofascial Release: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedsmr Email: themeweaverspodcast@gmail.comTo Subscribe and Support the Podcast:https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/theme-weavers-podcast/subscribe
In this episode, Heidi shares a raw, real-time experience of "digital dysregulation." While preparing to teach a yoga class, she received news of her family’s harrowing flight into a war zone. How do we hold space for others when our own world feels like it’s spinning? Heidi discusses the "presence vacuum" of modern technology, lessons from her daughter’s essay on Fahrenheit 451, and how ancient Yoga Sutras provide the blueprint for staying centered amidst the "whirlpools" of the mind.In this episode, we cover:The "Seashell" Effect: How technology acts as a double-edged sword for connection and distraction.Yoga Sutra 1.2 & 1.12: Understanding Chitta Vritti (fluctuations of the mind) and the power of Abhyasa (practice) and Vairagya (non-attachment).The 3 Gunas of Technology: Moving from the agitation of Rajas to the clarity of Sattva.Physical Practice as Metaphor: A deep dive into a peak balancing sequence (Eagle to UHPB to Shiva Squat) and the importance of "hugging the midline."Key Takeaway:"Balance isn't a state of stillness; it's a constant, quiet negotiation."Resources Mentioned:Fahrenheit 451 by Ray BradburyThe Yoga Sutras of Patanjali (Sutras 1.2, 1.12, and 2.46)Thank you for listening, for practicing, and for choosing (again and again) to show up with care.If you enjoyed this episode, please consider leaving a review or sharing it with someone who might need this reminder today.Follow Theme Weavers Yoga on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theme_weavers/Theme Weavers Academy: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/theme-weavers-academy Energize Your Life: A Chakra Workbook For Personal Transformation: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/chakrabook Bite Sized Yoga: Short Classes For Busy Lives: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedyogaBite Sized Yoga: Self Myofascial Release: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedsmr Email: themeweaverspodcast@gmail.comTo Subscribe and Support the Podcast:https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/theme-weavers-podcast/subscribe
Guest: Ciara Kilkenny (@yoga.with.ciara)In this episode, we celebrate our "hump day" of reaching 101 episodes by sitting down with the incredible Ciara Kilkenny. Ciara is a yoga teacher, media professional, trapeze enthusiast, and end-of-life doula who has made a habit of running toward the things that scare her most.We dive deep into the concept of "beginning again”, whether that’s getting back up after falling out of a tree pose or returning to your yoga practice after a long hiatus on your own terms.Key Highlights:The Name Story: A mortifying (but hilarious) realization about the importance of correcting people and owning your space. The Journey Back: Ciara shares her transition from a stressful relationship with fitness in college to finding healing and balance through yoga.Practicing What You Preach: The difficult decision to step back from teaching seven days a week to avoid burnout and honor the need for rest.Facing the Ultimate Fears: Why Ciara decided to fly through the air (trapeze) to conquer a fear of heights and train as a doula to face a fear of death. The "Laboratory" of the Mat: How balance poses teach us resilience, and why every tree in the forest is jealous of your ability to stand back up."Sometimes you need to walk away while you still love it... I’m walking away while I still love it because I don’t want to not love it." — Ciara KilkennyResources Mentioned:The Greatest Showman Table Read: The powerful video of Keala Settle singing "This Is Me" that we discussed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CiVnG_Phy7c&list=RDCiVnG_Phy7c&start_radio=1 Yogic Philosophy: We touch on Abhinivesha (the primal fear of ending) and the balance of Abhyasa (effort) and Vairagya (surrender).Connect with Ciara:If you are in the Massachusetts area, you can catch Ciara’s classes at:Ritual Vibes (Foxboro)Lighthouse of Yoga (West Bridgewater)Epione (Norton)Follow her on Instagram: @yoga.with.ciara (Yes, that’s Ciara with a 'C'!)Thank you for listening, for practicing, and for choosing (again and again) to show up with care.If you enjoyed this episode, please consider leaving a review or sharing it with someone who might need this reminder today.Follow Theme Weavers Yoga on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theme_weavers/Theme Weavers Academy: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/theme-weavers-academy Energize Your Life: A Chakra Workbook For Personal Transformation: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/chakrabook Bite Sized Yoga: Short Classes For Busy Lives: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedyogaBite Sized Yoga: Self Myofascial Release: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedsmr Email: themeweaverspodcast@gmail.comTo Subscribe and Support the Podcast:https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/theme-weavers-podcast/subscribe
From hiding in a closet with a cheap microphone to sitting in the studio I built with my own two hands, it has been 100 episodes of heart, screw-ups, and "aha" moments. To celebrate this milestone, I’m looking back at the "Golden Thread" that has kept me from unraveling over the last four years. In this episode, I share three unshakable truths—and one bonus lesson—that have surfaced through the "boiling water" of my life. From navigating the abrupt end of a friendship and a terrifying health crisis with my son, to finding my way back to spirituality after being burned by community leaders, we’re diving deep into the intersection of yoga philosophy and the messy reality of being human. In this episode, we explore:Truth #1: Control is a Myth, but Choice is a Power. Why Viveka (discernment) is your ultimate "floatie" in a chaotic world.Truth #2: The Armor is Heavy, but the Ground is Steady. A look at Polyvagal Theory and how to lay down the "spiritual bracing" that keeps us exhausted.Truth #3: The Grit is Part of the Medicine. How the heat of Tapas acts like a glassblower’s furnace to create clarity from debris.Bonus Truth: The Monkey and the Banana. A lesson on Aparigraha (non-attachment) and the freedom that comes from simply letting go.The Weave: I wrap it all up with a ready-to-use Dharma talk for your classes this week, focused on identifying your own continuity through the changing seasons of life. Keywords: yoga, life lessons, resilience, control vs. choice, armor vs. ground, grit, personal growth, reflection, spirituality, podcast anniversaryThank you for listening, for practicing, and for choosing (again and again) to show up with care.If you enjoyed this episode, please consider leaving a review or sharing it with someone who might need this reminder today.Follow Theme Weavers Yoga on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theme_weavers/Theme Weavers Academy: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/theme-weavers-academy Energize Your Life: A Chakra Workbook For Personal Transformation: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/chakrabook Bite Sized Yoga: Short Classes For Busy Lives: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedyogaBite Sized Yoga: Self Myofascial Release: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedsmr Email: themeweaverspodcast@gmail.comTo Subscribe and Support the Podcast:https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/theme-weavers-podcast/subscribe

Ep96 | Love as the Ultimate TruthSeason 4, Episode 13In this deeply personal and culturally resonant episode, I’m pulling back the curtain on why Theme Weavers took a week off and the "poverty of the soul" that we often encounter when we are tired, overwhelmed, or facing a world of division.Inspired by Bad Bunny’s historic 2026 Super Bowl Halftime show and a moving reflection by NC Senator Michael Garrett, we explore the intersection of Satya (Truth) and Ahimsa (Non-harming). We dive into how a single performance on a global stage can become a masterclass in Pratipaksha Bhavanam—meeting hate with the abundance of love.In this episode, we discuss:The "Unedited" Life: My personal journey with burnout, the "planner" personality, and choosing to show up even when it feels "yucky" or imperfect.Bad Bunny & Satya: How singing in one’s mother tongue on the world's biggest stage is a radical act of yoga. The Kleshas of Exclusion: Analyzing the "velvet rope" mentality and the Dvesha (aversion) that sees diversity as a threat.Pratipaksha Bhavanam: The practice of meeting "disgusting" rhetoric with "Ananda" (pure joy).Teaching the Theme: A full breakdown of how to weave this hemisphere-sized theme into a 60-minute yoga class without overwhelming your students.Note for Chromatic Yoga Teachers:This podcast is a resource for our community. Honoring the Undying Light: Practice, Responsibility, and Choosing How We Show UpThis episode feels especially meaningful to share—it’s my birthday episode, and as I turned 43 this past week, I found myself reflecting deeply on light, energy, and the responsibility we carry in how we move through the world. This teaching grew out of a class I taught at the end of December, inspired by conversations with my dear friend and fellow yoga teacher Craig. That class held space for a wide range of emotions—grief, fear, anger, exhaustion, hope, and love—and it felt like the right teaching to carry forward into a new year.In this episode, we explore the idea that energy never dies, it only transforms, and what it means to remember that light is energy—undying, enduring, and present within each of us, even when the world feels dark.I also speak honestly about living as a Jewish woman during a time of rising antisemitism, the fear that can come with naming identity, and why yoga asks us not to meet hate with hate. Drawing on the wisdom of yoga philosophy, the Native American parable of the two wolves, and the poem “First They Came” by Pastor Martin Niemöller, this episode is a reflection on courage, compassion, and conscious choice. This is not a political episode—it’s a dharma talk about ahimsa, attention, and the responsibility we have to use our light in ways that heal rather than harm. The episode closes with a short guided candle-gazing meditation, inviting you to reconnect with your inner light and consider how it might ripple outward into the world. You’re invited to sit with one or two of these questions, journal on them, or simply let them unfold over time:Where in your life right now does darkness feel especially present? When things feel overwhelming, how do you tend to respond—do you contract, react, numb, or soften? What does your own inner light feel like when you are connected to it?Where might fear or anger be shaping how you see others? How does your yoga practice help you stay present with intensity rather than react from it?In what ways can you use your light—your words, actions, or attention—to stand up for others?Which wolf have you been feeding lately, and what would it look like to nourish the other? As this new year begins, what intention will help you protect and honor your light without extinguishing someone else’s?Thank you for listening, for practicing, and for choosing—again and again—to show up with care.If you enjoyed this episode, please consider leaving a review or sharing it with someone who might need this reminder today.Follow Theme Weavers Yoga on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theme_weavers/Theme Weavers Academy: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/theme-weavers-academy Energize Your Life: A Chakra Workbook For Personal Transformation: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/chakrabook Bite Sized Yoga: Short Classes For Busy Lives: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedyogaBite Sized Yoga: Self Myofascial Release: https://www.heidikassneryoga.com/bitesizedsmr To Subscribe and Support the Podcast:https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/theme-weavers-podcast/subscribe
