If you cannot forgive, you’re going to have constant problems in human relationships. If you fail to forgive someone who has hurt you, you’re allowing them to injure you for a second time. An unforgiving spirit destroys our health and imprisons us in bitterness. It robs us of the joy that the Lord longs for us to have. Just as Jesus forgave those who didn’t deserve it, we can have an attitude of forgiveness for those who don’t deserve it.

In the divine drama of destiny, in the providence of God, we have been touched by healing grace. His grace has pardoned us and healed us. His grace has freed us from guilt and redeemed and empowered us. That same grace has led us to be a son or daughter of God.

When we consider all that Jesus has done for us, one of those is forgiveness. In His forgiveness our guilt is gone and there is no condemnation. Because of this, we know that in Him there is a new power in our lives that gives us a deeper understanding of His grace and transforming power. However proficient you are at anything you can become more proficient, whatever you’ve discovered, there’s more to discover. This is also true when it comes to learning. When we fall into sin, refusing to listen to God’s voice, it’s radio silence. We get what we are asking for. But the repeated denial of the Holy Spirit working on our hearts is neither healthy, nor eternal. When you and I go through stormy seas, the incredibly good news is that Jesus is praying for us. We are on His lips, on His mind and in His heart. The sea may be stormy but the One who is the commander of the wind, sea and rain has us on His heart. Jesus is praying for us.

Had the disciples grasped the promises of God, saw Jesus as Messiah, and by faith launched out as He said, they would not have had to face the greater storm. God loves us so much that if we fail to learn the lessons of faith in the storms we’re going through now, in His gracious mercy and goodness, He will allow us to go through greater storms in the future. But in that, it teaches us the lessons of faith we so desperately need.
