In today's episode, we dive deep into the lost curriculum and discuss what kids really need to know before they step into the world of adulting. Our education system has evolved, but there are vital life skills like financial literacy and emotional intelligence that are left out of the classroom. Why is this happening? We explore the traditional education system and the shift towards college as the ultimate goal. However, as parents, educators, and concerned citizens, we question whether this focus truly prepares our youth for the complexities of adulthood. Join me, Traci Bakenhaster, as we uncover the truths and statistics behind the lack of life skills education in schools. We'll also discuss the areas that need a major shift, such as financial literacy, career guidance, and more. Note: These episodes were part of "Breaking the Cycle" helping others to learn how to get unstuck from cycles in our lives. Gratitude is all about appreciating what we have. We can usually find something to be grateful for, if we look hard enough. Things like good health, family, friends, pets, homes, jobs, even basic comforts, like heat, hot water, and food are good things and we should appreciate their value. We all know we should be grateful for them, but are we really? And why does being grateful even matter, when so many people in society just aren’t? In today’s episode, Traci shares some research on gratitude, and when you really think about it, the results aren’t all that surprising. Listen as she explains that showing gratitude can start to take our society from ungrateful to one of gratefulness and happiness, and how to make lasting change on the world, we really have to first change ourselves.

The words "financial freedom" get thrown around quite a bit in our society, but what do they actually mean? In today’s episode, Traci explores the definition of financial freedom, suggesting four key steps to achieving it in our own lives. If you want your financial freedom, if you want to be debt free, if you want to stop letting your money control you, or other people control you, if you are ready to make a change in your situation ... make today that day! If we want to make lasting change in our finances or our career and break the negative cycles in our lives, eventually we will have to address our outlook and take ownership of our decision making. Mindset is the key to lasting change in this area and really is about learning how to manage our thinking. Our actions are always controlled by how we view our situation. In today’s episode, Traci speaks with Rebecca Victor on the power of mindset. Rebecca is the founder of Your Joyful Path where she is a personal empowerment and leadership coach. She and Traci discuss what mindset is and how it influences how we think, process and view things; why having a healthy mindset is important in life; the different types of mindsets people can have; and why someone would want to change their mindset and how that can be accomplished.

It's a common error and often leads to misunderstandings when it comes to finances. Everyone needs money in the world; we have to buy food, pay bills, and it generally makes life easier to live when we have it! Money on its own is neither good or evil, but with the wrong intentions, the wrong mindset, or even the wrong treasure, it is the love of money, rather than focusing on what really matters, that gets us into "hot water." In today's episode, Traci discusses this misused Bible verse about money, 1 Timothy 6:10, and how this simple misunderstanding about money has created a culture of wrong assumptions about its purpose and those who have it.

This episode is all about money and the mentality of keeping up with the Joneses. Is it all it’s cracked up to be?
