Join Matt and Tyrie as they dive into the fourth film in the 28 Years Later franchise, chatting about it's sickening but thematically useful depictions of violence, the wonder of Ralph Finnes, and the power of immersive theatre. And consider this listeners...Will the pod-brothers cover the third instalment in this Bone trilogy when it releases in the near future, marking the first 'official trilogy' on mic? Who knows, but they do say the Pod-Devil is always up for making a deal...Description Add OnFollow us at @tripod_showGet in touch at mattandtyrie@gmail.comArtwork by Jack Mierswww.jackmiers.com@jackmiers@jackandjosh Hosted on Acast. Everybody SHUT UP! New Tripod ahh episode just dropped. The boys are joined by Tasman Aspinall to script-doctormogg the hell out of Small Soldiers- a film they all love but admittedly is not without some... short comings? It's funny because the soldiers in this are small. Anyway, the boys discuss how fun this concept is, the impact it had on their childhood, the Burger King toys they inspired, and heaps heaps more! Stay tuned to find out what we're doing for our Reel Quick ep next week. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Well, we had a good run folks, but it finally happened. Tripod finally got POLITICAL! In this 2nd instalment of his War Trilogy, Matt and Tyrie discuss Joe Dante's signature satirical style on full display in 1997's The 2nd Civil War! From cracking jokes to predicting the future of mainstream media and politics, this HBO made for TV movie really has it all...it even has Coburn! Hosted on Acast. New Year, new TRILOGY! The boys have returned from their summer break to bring you Joe Dante's War Trilogy. Starting off with Matinee (1993) and folks we're just gonna say it... This film is about as hidden as a hidden gem can get. It's a meaty discussion covering the importance of storytelling and cinemas, the power of fear and much much more. Happy listening. It's Christmas Eve and Tripod is back for one last holiday gift...but this one is more like a lump of dang coal! In the (merciful) final instalment of the trilogy, Tyrie, Matt and his brother Ben take Disney's Noelle to task, lamenting it's missed opportunities, under-utilised talent and wondering who it's actually for. The mouse certainly has a lot to answer for. In any case, Merry Christmas and Happy Hoglidays everyone, we'll see you next week for our final ep of 2025! Oh and please don't sue us, Peter Combe. We love you. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me. A second instalment in the I'm related to Santa Trilogy! Anyway... We're talking about Arthur Christmas. Some believe it is a modern Christmas classic! What do these two hog obsessed clowns think? Tune in to find out. Tune in to also find out what I mean when I say they're hog obsessed... Enjoy! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Ho, Ho, Huh? That's right, Tripod is back for their third and sweatiest Christmas trilogy yet! It's the I'm Related to Santa Trilogy - three films no one asked for all packaged up in a beautiful holiday gift from Matt and Tyrie to you, dear listener. This week, the boys channel their inner Grinch's to talk (and scream) about 2007's family(?) film, Fred Clause. At one hour and forty minutes of pure pod, you better believe they go on some Tripod tangents in this one folks! Happy holidays! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Giddy up, listeners! Bronco Bridges is back for this week's Reel Quick to help Matt and Tyrie celebrate a whopping one-hundred episodes of Tripod! And what better way to celebrate this milestone than with a motion picture classic that everyone saw and everyone remembers...Crazy Heart. Wait...is that right? No seriously...they did Crazy Heart for their one-hundredth? Are they trying to lose listeners? Good lord. Anyway, pour yourself a sobering glass of ginger ale and enjoy as the boys chat about the state of music biopics (many of which they have failed to see) and the ups and downs of Crazy Heart, and Matt's perfect surprise gift to his podbrother, Tyrie. Thanks for riding with us these past 100 folks! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Wow guys. What a journey. We had some laughs. We had some yucks. But here we are at the end of Roberto Rossellini's War Trilogy with Germany Year Zero. It's his less heralded entry in the trilogy, but still a powerful one. The movie is a prayer for empathy and understanding. And the two bozo clowns who host this pod are gonna drool and blubber about it for an hour. Enjoy! Oh and stay tuned to the end to find out what movie we'll be covering next... You might say it's a little... Crazy... Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
This week, Classic Tripod continues it's deep dive into Roberto Rossellini's War Trilogy. Four-time guest and recent Italian tourist Simon Harvey joins Matt and Tyrie, ready to discuss 1946's Paisan - a feature made out of six 'episodes', each chronicling the liberation of Italy by the allied forces of World War II. Being such an important film which tackles some incredibly bleak subject matter, you'd be forgiven for thinking this episode is without bits, goofs, gags and laughs. But you'd be dead wrong. Enjoy! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Hey folks, for the next three episodes we are gonna be running... ehhh CLASSIC Tripod... That's right we're doing old black and white movies can you believe it. But these films aren't just black and white, they're also super important. I'm talking of course about Roberto Rossellini's War Trilogy! Three films made in the immediate aftermath of WWII. First up is Rome, Open City, a film that not only broke the rules, but completely rewrote the book on how films are made for decades to come. "All roads lead to Rome, Open City." John Luc Goddard. Enjoy! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Hey man! Like, welcome back, man. Today Tyrie and Matt are breaking into the grid, with their discussion of Tron: Ares. The boys ponder why Disney keeps going back to this neon world of one's and zero's (especially when none of the three films have ever made the company any actual one's or zero's) as well as the state of Jared Leto's career, and more importantly, the seemingly lost art of blockbuster movie-making and what Tron: Ares has to say about A.I., grief, connection, and what it truly means...to be cool. Feeling existential? GOOD! Because this week the boys are back to close the book on Takeshi's Kitano's Yakuza Trilogy. The final instalment, Sonatine, follows Beat and his boys as they lay low at the beach, play some games, throw some disc and then go out in a blaze of...glory? Tune in to find out, and get ready for another classic Tripod disagreement, because clever boy Tyrie loved this film and big ol' dummy Matt ultimately found it boring. Shocker! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The boys return with the second instalment of Takeshi Kitano's Yakuza Trilogy: Boiling Point. Man this movie starts off so chill... Then a bunch of people get shot up... Oh well, it makes for good viewing and inadvertently great talking! Enjoy! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Warning! This man is wild! He's also one of Japan's most beloved comedians! So how did Takeshi Kitano go from funny man to director man? In this brand new trilogy of Yakuza films, Tyrie and Matt deep dive into the life and work of 'Beat' Takeshi. This week, the boys talk 1989's Violent Cop, discussing it's unique blend of violence, comedy, slaps, kicks, blank stares and of course...more violence! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Fresh off the heels of the Cursed Childhood Trilogy - 80's fantasy films crawling with puppets like Hoggle, Aughra and Falkor - Matt and Tyrie thought they might never find a relevant Reel Quick to pair alongside their new, felt covered friends. Oh well. Never mind I gues-- WAIT A DAMN MINUTE! I see something...out on those hills...in the mist...it's, it's a PUPPET! In 2025!!! And not just any puppet - it's Ochi! Yes that's right folks, you can stop your clamouring because we heard you loud and clear - today we're finally covering The Legend of Ochi...a film we all definitely saw in theatres this year. Join Matt and Tyrie as they descend into Isaiah Saxon's mysterious world of Carpathia - a vivid and imaginative land that is sadly a little lacking in compelling characters, action and story. But hey, that's okay because...puppets, whimsy and beauty abound! Happy listening! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
We are still so back, this time with our third instalment of the Cursed Childhood Trilogy: Labyrinth. A movie brought to you by the creative genius of Jim Henson, Terry Jones, George Lucas and David Bowie! Dance Magic Dance! It also stars Jennifer Connelly in her second feature film (The first one was Once Upon a Time in America, remember when we covered that? hUH?!) Anyway ENJOY! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Tripod continues to be back! This week, Matt and Tyrie and joined by their dear friend Quentin Roth - a guest who refused to be on the upcoming Labyrinth episode because of how much it cursed his childhood. Instead, the boys discuss Matt's touchstone cursed childhood film, The Never Ending Story, discussing the strengths of the world, the weaknesses in the plot, and the general creepiness of Falkor (scandal noted). The boys apologise in advance if this movie holds a special place in some listeners hearts...they just didn't quite get it! Enjoy! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
AAAAANNNND we're back! After a brief hiatus Tripod is back on the AIR! They tried to shut us down, but the spirit of unofficial trilogies proved too much for the fat cats over at Spotify (And wherever else you stream this thing) In this episode the boys go back to the 80's to discuss the Cursed Childhood Trilogy, three films linked by their whimsical fantasy settings, dark tone and heavy use of puppets. Kicking things off we have The Dark Crystal!Happy Listening folks! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
