In this episode of Eighty Twenty, Shanina Shaik and George Sinclair kick off the new year with a very special episode recorded live at Spring Place in Beverly Hills. The hosts sit down to reflect on the lessons learned and personal growth achieved after a turbulent year in 2023 that led them to create the Eighty Twenty podcast. Getting candid about the personal challenges that led them to create the podcast, Shanina revisits her painful struggle with postpartum depression in the aftermath of giving birth while Georgia details her crisis of purpose and lack of fulfillment while playing shows and releasing music that didn't truly resonate. They also touch on how relationship problems and communication issues compounded their distress. At their lowest points, the women found healing through modalities like the intense Hoffman Process, as well as Changa (also known as Ayahuasca, a powerful plant medicine), which helped fundamentally shift their perspectives. They explain how these experiences taught them to let go of control, improve communication, and above all, know and love themselves more fully. Shifting to the present, the hosts share their excitement about the future of Eighty Twenty and plans to develop a broader wellness platform that can inspire others the way their podcast guests have educated them this past season. However, they emphasize that none of this would have been possible without going through hardship together and discovering opportunity in the process. As the conversation winds down, Shanina and Georgia touch on finding magic in even the most difficult times. They encourage anyone going through similar struggles to lean in and trust that your own version of happiness or fulfillment awaits on the other side of self-work and spiritual growth.

In this episode of Eighty Twenty, Georgia and Shanina sit down with Star Jesse Taylor, a mental health and relationship coach who exploded as a Tik Tok sensation. Star shares his journey of overcoming OCD and mental health challenges using techniques such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and exposure and response prevention therapy (ERP). Star dives deep into the concept of cognitive diffusion, emphasizing that we are not our thoughts or emotions, even though it often feels that way. Throughout the episode, Star provides practical advice on how to change mental health patterns by altering our behavior both inside our heads (not engaging with thoughts) and outside our heads (doing valued actions even when uncomfortable feelings arise). He introduces the idea of focusing on "valued actions" in seven key areas of life with visuals on his whiteboard: physical fitness, creative expression, romantic relationships, family/friend relationships, relaxation, business/money, and fun. Star Jesse also discusses the importance of avoiding compulsions, which are actions taken to control or get rid of unwanted feelings or thoughts, as they only strengthen the mental patterns we're trying to break free from. He shares insights on how venting emotions can make them worse in the long run, and suggests accepting emotions without trying to fix them while refocusing attention on valued actions. Throughout the conversation, Star uses relatable analogies and real-life examples to illustrate his points, making the content engaging and easy to understand. Listeners are left with a wealth of practical tools and insights to help them navigate their own mental health journeys and live more fulfilling lives. In this episode of Eighty Twenty, Georgia and Shanina welcome hypnotherapist, mindset coach, and musician, Atarah Valentine. Atarah shares openly about his journey to becoming a mindset coach, starting from a childhood filled with abuse and bullying which led him to constantly seek external validation through musical success and appearance. Despite achieving outward signs of success like a record deal, Atarah struggled with self-esteem and wanting to transform himself thinking it would help his insides “catch up”. His unhealthy perfectionism fueled an eating disorder while he emotionally detached from his real self more and more. Eventually realizing unconditional self-acceptance was necessary to feel whole, Atarah found self-compassion and began helping others by organically sharing his experience through social media.  It was through this that Atarah found his new calling as a hypnotherapist and mindset coach, booked out 6 months in advance! He explains his belief that no one is fundamentally broken or has internal wounds needing healed – instead it’s about unlearning past conditioning and reactions through understanding how the brain works. Atarah shares emotional intelligence tools and techniques from his practice, emphasizing the importance of separating feelings from thoughts and developing the skill of emotional resilience. Throughout the conversation, themes emerge around the danger of using external achievement as a stand-in for intrinsic self-worth and self-acceptance. Atarah offers perspective on embracing change as an ongoing learning process based in compassion rather than striving for perfection. He models vulnerability, encouraging crying openly to unload against the overwhelming and uncertain aspects of life. The dialogue highlights mindfulness and presence as central to living wholeheartedly. Make sure to subscribe below and check out all of our socials for more exciting content from Eighty Twenty!
In this episode of Eighty Twenty, Georgia Sinclair and Shanina Shaik are joined by Aggie Lal, an expert biohacker and author of the recently published book “Biohack Like a Woman.” Aggie explains how biohacking is about continuously improving health, feeling amazing, and even reversing your biological age. Simple hacks involve eating your food in the right order to lose weight, learning to eat train and fast according to your cycle to optimize your health. They discuss optimizing nutrition, outlining the importance of balancing your blood sugar levels. Aggie recommends eating vegetables first, then protein and fats, finishing with minimal carbs. In this episode of Eighty Twenty, Georgia Sinclair and Shanina Shaik are joined by Dr. Jonathan Leary, founder of Remedy Place - the pioneering "social wellness club" franchise. Georgia and Shanina engage Dr. Leary on all facets of health, from mental wellbeing to nutrition to chronic illness and our healthcare system's shortcomings. Dr. Leary shares his personal journey to integrative medicine after struggling to come out in his conservative hometown. He realized most chronic diseases stem from lifestyle factors, yet doctors spend mere minutes with patients, simply treating symptoms with pills rather than the root causes. This spurred Dr. Leary to envision "what socializing could look like if it was healthy." After running his own clinical practice for years, Dr. Leary brought his dream to life by opening the first Remedy Place in LA, designing an elegant space for members to experience IV vitamin drips, cryotherapy, infrared saunas, breathwork classes, and more, as an alternative to the bar scene. The hosts have an engaging, insightful dialogue on everything from nutrition to mental health to modeling self-care for kids. Throughout the wide-ranging conversation, Dr. Leary promotes leaning into discomfort for personal growth, using struggles as opportunities to “learn how to handle things healthier.” He criticizes the “don’t stop, just cope” mentality pervading society, arguing we must build mental strength. His bold ambition? Nothing less than building a platform that will transform healthcare worldwide. The group discusses how important communication, vulnerability and information truly are for couples to have satisfying sex lives. A major topic of conversation is Lauren's experience keeping her studio open during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. This resulted in significant backlash and accusations from people who saw her actions as dangerous or political. Lauren grieved losing friends but stayed confident in providing an outlet to stay healthy. Later in the episode, the hosts explores their approaches to diet, self-care rituals, parenting, and more. Lauren shares her typical food intake. She listens to her body's signals rather than forcing meals. Overall, Lauren advocates living life over fear, getting sick as part of building natural immunity. The conversation moves to relationships, as Luke, Shanina, and Georgia analyze their own patterns and the importance of self-work to improve dynamics. They stress looking inward at your own issues rather than blaming partners, and letting your "mask" eventually slip off to be authentic after the early honeymoon phase wears off. On parenthood, Luke describes the profound experience of his wife's raw, emotional home birth photographed beautifully by their doula. The magical process of birth led to an insightful discussion of how the natural beauty of birth has been stripped away from women over time by male-dominated medical norms.
