Hi, I’m Dr. Ioana Popa, co-founder of Team For The Soul®, Christian mom and wife, speaker, spiritual care life coach, physician-psychiatrist, educator, passionate about learning, doing ministry work and giving to others like Christ, which unfortunately led me to chronic stress and burnout.

I said yes to everyone asking for help and then pushed through all my commitments, with no time for myself, assuming that if I do self-care on the weekends or vacations I would be fine. But I was not.

After my second burnout, I looked for help from both the psychological disciplines and the Christian faith, to only find disjointed guidance, many times at odds with each other.

Finally, I realized that if I wanted to lead and serve in Christ with energy and joy, I needed to create a simple system for thriving in Christ, integrating science, psychology, spiritual care and faith, which now I'm excited to share with you.

And if you are ready to thrive toward your highest potential from a grounded foundation with Christ at the center, let’s dive in.

Sending you many blessings and prayers in Christ,
Dr. Ioana

In this Thriving in Christ episode, I had the joy of interviewing Esther Yunkin, a registered nurse and Hashimoto’s specialist, on how chronic stress can quietly lead to burnout and autoimmune issues in high-performing Christian women. Together, we reveal how many women continue serving and striving until their bodies signal distress, long before they recognize the warning signs. Esther encourages women who sense “something isn’t right” to listen to their bodies; this is actually God's way of talking to us - through our bodies. In this conversation, Esther shares a wealth of details about certain health topics and offers practical tips to help each of us support our bodies - spiritually, physically and mentally. Her message is one of hope and empowerment, highlighting faith-aligned steps that can lead to healing. Together, Esther and I discuss: ☀️ The influence that God has played in her life, especially throughout her own health journey. ☀️ Specific details about women's health, related to the thyroid. ☀️ Stress management tips including belly breathing, gratitude journaling and more (don't miss the awesome tips for every day!).☀️ The impact gut function has on your overall health, and you guessed it - more tips! Right now, Esther enjoys reading the book of Philippians, and though it was hard to pick a favorite verse, she is strengthened by St. Paul encouraging the people to rejoice in all things! The message is clear: caring for your body is not a distraction from your calling, but a vital part of stewarding the life and strength God has entrusted to you. As a new year approaches, many Christian professional women feel called to set intentions, yet traditional resolutions often lead to frustration and burnout (by as early as February or March), rather than renewal. If this happened to you, you are not alone! When energy fades, or prayers feel dry, it’s not a personal failure - it’s a sign that goals rooted only in performance need deeper alignment with God. This week, I invite you to shift from only outcome-driven resolutions to value-based, God-centered intentions, that engage both faith, your dreams, and God. Anchored in Scripture and supported by psychology, these intentions last longer because they flow from meaning, prayer, and trust that God is already at work in us. Through simple, prayerful steps, I invite you to pursue 2026 with grace and intention. You got this! In today's episode, I will share with you: ⭐️ A few KEY psychological concepts about why intentions are important - especially coming from your wise self - which for us Christians, is the image of God.⭐️ Some beautiful bible verses to anchor you along the way.⭐️ Clear reflection questions to help you start the year. Intentions, unlike resolutions, flow from being grounded in Christ - they are not self-willed goals; they are quiet agreements between our soul and God. In this Renewal Conversation, I speak with Lissa Figgins about moving beyond burnout by learning to steward time as a gift from God. Lissa shares how her own journey - from striving and exhaustion to faith-centered clarity - taught her that time, like manna, is meant to be received daily with trust and intention. Lissa invites women to see time as something to steward for God’s purposes, instead of managing it through endless productivity. Through her work with Redeem Her Time, Lissa helps Christian women align their work with God’s priorities and multiply their impact without sacrificing rest. Her message is a hopeful reminder that when time is surrendered to God, it becomes an opportunity for growth, peace, and purposeful leadership. In this Renewal Conversation, you will hear about:☀️ How time is a gift from God. ☀️ The idea of how experience with burnout can reveal a person's heart. ☀️ Stewardship over the management of time.☀️ How spiritual practices create alignment. ☀️ The importance of multiplying impact, not hours. The Bible verse that Lissa finds encouraging is this: "Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil." Here is an important topic to discuss as you gather with friends and family in the upcoming week: the depth and power of Beliefs. You know what it’s like to carry a vision: to set goals, lead others and move projects forward before outcomes are guaranteed. But even strong women of faith, like you, can feel the tension between believing and the reality of what you see, and this sometimes feels like a huge gap. This can lead to inner doubt, thinking that you are not doing enough or that your prayers are not impactful, while appearing outwardly confident. This can quietly wear us down. And as we just celebrated Christmas yesterday, it is important to remember that we cannot rely on what we see in order to affirm and sustain our beliefs. Like Mary, trusting God that her son is the Son of God, she believed it, even when the evidence was not yet there. And if she did it, through the power of Scripture and science, with God's help, so can we. In today's episode, you will hear about:+ The tension between believing and seeing and the gift of this Cognitive Dissonance.+ How believing is rooted in Scripture and also seen in Psychology. + How beliefs interpret your world and what you see (which are called Cognitive Schemas). + The words of Romans 12:2 and how transformation requires us to renew our minds.+ How making the decision to believe can actually create what we see. When we align our thoughts with His truth, we participate in a beautiful co-creation that shapes our emotions, actions, and ultimately our reality. In this week's Renewal Conversation, I had the joy of interviewing Jane Kourtis, who is an attorney of 23 years, a faithful leader, mother and grandmother. Her journey in Christ was shaped from childhood as the daughter of a Greek Orthodox priest, where the beauty of hymnology, liturgy, and the five-sense experience of worship formed her spiritual foundation. Her ministry leadership extends, among others (more in the video), to the Philoptochos ministry, where she serves locally and nationally to support those in need and uphold the rich tradition of compassionate service. Her experiences, including moments of burnout, have taught her to approach each responsibility with clarity, rest, and intention rooted in her Christian values, allowing her to continue to prioritize what matters most - faith, family and purposeful work. In this Renewal Conversation, you will hear about:+ Her vocational journey, while not linear, was one only God could ordain. + Her experience with burnout. + How she applies the "Big Rocks" system (Steven Covey) to her life and the way it serves her and her family. + Her unique way to divide the weekend to take care of herself and her family, and to be with God! (you don't want to miss this.) One of Jane's favorite Bible verses is one that her father quoted many times: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish but have everlasting life." You make hard calls all day — decisions that shape people’s futures, teams, organizations, and your family. Everyone looks to you for clarity, composure, and care. Yet sometimes, when the meetings end and the quiet sets in, there’s a question beneath the surface: who holds you while you hold everything else? In this episode, we will focus on who is supporting you and the healing power of connection. Because from the beginning, God declared, “It is not good for man to be alone.” Connection is love in action — the way God’s presence flows between hearts. What you will hear in today's episode: ⭐️ The psychology of being in a safe relationship.⭐️ Several bible verses calling us to shared presence and connection.⭐️ How simple, intentional moments of connection can reawaken the peace in the midst of overworking and striving. ⭐️ I will wrap up with a few reflective questions to help establish meaningful connections in your own life. Many Christian women professionals and servant leaders feel the tension between the responsibilities they carry and the longing to remain grounded in Christ while serving across cultures, communities, and complex spaces. In a world where leadership often feels loud, fast, and constantly demanding, faithful leadership can look surprisingly different—quiet, discerning, and deeply rooted in God’s presence. And what a joy to know that there are young women who are embarking on this journey of servant leadership, interested in addressing global issues while following Christ. Spyridoula Fotinis is one of these young leaders and I had the joy of interviewing her in Renewal Conversations. From her work at the United Nations, with the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops, to her time studying social systems in Finland, Spyridoula has learned that leadership shaped by faith is not about striving, but about being attuned to God, to people, and to the quiet spaces where clarity emerges. In this Renewal Conversation, you will hear about:🔅 Spyridoula's journey of faith and how the process of questioning can be a way of deepening our relationship with God. 🔅 How our global worldview can impact our faith and connection with others. 🔅 What silence looks like in another culture.🔅 The psychological meaning of the Third Individuation during our lifetime. 🔅 Beautiful and simple nuggets of renewal. One of Spyridoula's favorite Bible verses relates to her experience with silence - "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!" Christian women professionals and leaders often measure worth by productivity, titles, or impact — even spiritual service becomes performance. Beneath excellence lies quiet exhaustion and fear: “Am I enough?” or “What if they find out I’m not as strong as I look?” Our culture is focused on results and productivity, but God is inviting us to conform to HIM and not to the world. Today - we will take time to slow down, re-ground in Christ’s identity and rest in one of Scripture’s most beautiful promises — that through Christ, we are being transformed from glory to glory into His image. In Today's episode, we will: 🔅 Intentionally slow down.🔅 Unpack 2 Corinthians 3:18 (NIV).🔅 Talk about the 2 major ways in which deep transformation happens. 🔅 The idea of co-creation with God, and how nurturing this relationship is what helps us thrive. 🔅 Reflection questions that will help you think through your journey so you can move forward. Even the strongest Christian women professionals and servant leaders carry stories of hard seasons—moments that stretched them, humbled them, or left them quietly wondering how God could bring renewal out of what felt broken. In today’s episode, we explore how post-traumatic growth is not just a psychological concept but a personal and sacred journey where Christ meets us with compassion, wisdom, and surprising new strength. Together with Rebecca Hogg, a Licensed Professional Counselor and the owner of Canvas Counseling & Wellness, we look at how our walk with God - which is unique for each of us - can create healing, clarity, and resilience that becomes the foundation for our vocation, our relationships, and hope for moving forward. In this Renewal Conversation, you will hear about:🔅 How shifting our inner person can create change in our outer person, too.🔅 Rebecca's relationship with Christ through the years.🔅 Her evolving vision for her career.🔅 Ways to approach Scripture through a lens of compassion and psychological questioning. 🔅 Her tips and practices for renewal. Rebecca's favorite Bible verse is this: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. How do we handle thoughts and emotions so we can stay centered in God? And are there simple steps we can take to access the peace that surpasses all understanding? Thoughts and emotions come and go, and the reality is that they are difficult to control in the long run. What we CAN control, however, is how we respond to them. In today's episode of "Answering Your Questions - Part 2," we walk through simple steps of a strategy from Cognitive Psychology, and when blended with our Christian faith, can help us handle our inner world and respond to thoughts and emotions in Godly ways. And it all stems from our underlying beliefs!! In this episode, you will learn about:🔅 How our thoughts and emotions impact our BELIEFS and VICE-VERSA.🔅 How to involve GOD in the process.🔅 A useful and simple strategy (step-by-step) that we can use TODAY to navigate thoughts and beliefs when we feel uneasy or triggered. Today, we are bringing to a close the MINI SERIES on Internal Family Systems (IFS), by discussing the Steps for the HEALING JOURNEY, with Christ at the helm. Through the might of the IFS psychological methodology, along with the work of the gentle spirit of God at work within us, healing is possible. It's possible, when we meet the different parts of ourselves with the same compassion that Christ offers us. Here is a sneak peak of what you can hear in this episode: 🔅 There are 4 steps to help us bring healing to each of our parts, especially the exiles.🔅 We do not need (nor is it possible) to get rid of our parts. They are a part of us and with Christ we can bring healing to them. 🔅 When we support and bring all of our parts into a relationship with Christ, they can truly connect and receive God's healing love. Listen Now... 🔅 Christ is waiting for us to lay our troubles at his feet. I hope you are well! Here is Part 6 (out of 7) of the Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Christianity series, which addresses polarities. This is relevant in our lives as it is common to feel that there is an internal war, as we carry on with our responsibilities. We might be smiling on the outside, but stressed inside, and in time, this can lead to burnout. Polarities is a term used in IFS to explain that we have parts that are proactive (managers), trying to avoid problems. This works until we encounter triggers, which is when the Firefighters take over, trying to soothe our hurts, at which point the Managers can get upset. In this short episode, ✨ I unpack Polarities✨ Address the 'Cycle of Caring' described in psychological research and how it can be disrupted for Christians.✨ Go over the 'treadmill effect' leading to burnout.✨ The solution that is in your control! What does it take to move past doubt - doubt in ourselves, in others, or situations we are in? Is there a different mindset that can help us overcome this doubt? And what does it mean to see beauty as a characteristic and a resourceful state of being, as a way to get to know God? These are thoughts and questions that Thomaida Hudanish and I talk about in this week's Renewal Conversation. Thomaida is the co-founder of Beauty First Films, which recently released the film - St. Amphilochios of Patmos. She is an avid traveler, writer, and passionate about her Orthodox faith. After eight years of working as a parish administrator, she volunteered at orphanage schools in India and Israel-Palestine, engaging a community of armchair travelers via a regular newsletter. She was also blessed to work for the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of San Francisco, supporting clergy and parishes in evangelism ministry. In this episode, you will hear Thomaida and I talk about: 🔅 The beauty of seeking God in all things, with patience, and also the beauty of what comes after. 🔅 A unique way to deal with the doubting parts (you don't want to miss this one!)🔅 Her perspective on one's relationship with God.🔅 How saying short prayers throughout her day keeps her grounded and other nuggets of wisdom. The Bible Verse that guides her is this: "The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him. As we keep growing both professionally and personally in Christ, we become better versions of ourselves and we see the transformation. Nonetheless, life happens, and we might get triggered, respond in ways that we are not proud of, and then start wondering "What did I do wrong?", "Why can't I fix this?" or "Why can't I do this?" and we feel we go backwards or in circles instead of forward. In reality, we are never going back (although it feels that way), as growth is more of a spiral movement! Why does this happen? Every system, from the smallest molecule to our bodies, our inner psychological & spiritual world, communities, all the way to the stars, exists in states of equilibrium (Homeostasis). As we reach toward our highest potential, subconscious forces can pull us back toward the old ways of being, to the state of prior equilibrium - so it's natural to feel this way. These reactions are driven by old conditionings, and parts of us that might have been hurt in the past. In IFS (Internal Family Systems), these younger versions of ourselves are called "EXILES". But here is the good news: God is a God of love, compassion and healing, and can bring light to the inner folds of our being! Internal Family Systems (IFS) Part 5: EXILES🔅When we are triggered, it is possible that our younger versions of ourselves, the Exiles, might need support from you and God.🔅 Instead of trying to "fix" the parts, we can nurture and connect with it from our True Self and the unfailing love of God.🔅 Getting support from someone you trust is important, and when in doubt, consult with your medical provider, an IFS therapist or practitioner. Inside this episode I share some quick tips about: 🔅 Journaling + Contemplative Practices and how they can nurture the Exile Parts so we can eventually shift away from negative patterned thinking.  Click PLAY to watch this episode ▶️👉 https://youtu.be/SiRYWAWY1qI________________________ 🌟 And if this episode and channel blesses you, leave us a FIVE-STAR Review and DOWNLOAD the episodes you love. In this week's Renewal Conversation, I had the joy of talking with Debbie Caudle, who is a marriage therapist and relationship coach with a passion for helping Christian couples repair what’s broken, rediscover what matters, and rebuild marriages with purpose. Through her signature Marriage in Bloom recovery program, Debbie equips women (and couples) to face the hard stuff: conflict that never resolves, connection that’s grown cold, and confusion about where the relationship is even headed. In this Renewal Conversation, you will hear about:🔅 Debbie's story of connecting with God through her struggles of divorce. 🔅 How she created daily habits to make sure that God stays #1 in her life. 🔅 What it looked and felt like to start over after using her savings to do mission work with her ex-husband. 🔅 How she commits to a daily rhythm of self-care that provides grounding and peace. There's so much more, like...🔅 Tips around boundaries of time between home and work.🔅 The beauty of using a Bible Journal and listening to a dramatized Bible! Debbie's favorite Bible verse is this: "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." What happens when an unwanted fire erupts in someone's home? The firefighters are called and they respond quickly to help put out the fire before it spreads. Similarly, when we have internal fires (pain, suffering, sadness, shame), they need to be put out; therefore, we have internal parts that show up quickly to distract and soothe our mind and body - the Firefighter part. As described in IFS (Internal Family Systems) methodology, these parts are very reactive and occur as a response to a great amount of stress or unpleasant experiences, either current or from the past. The firefighter parts can look like any of the following: a glass of wine (or 2), overeating, working out (a lot), shopping online, scrolling endlessly on social media, or watching shows for hours. IFS MINI SERIES Part 4: the Firefighter Parts Firefighters are a part of our internal ecosystem that:✨ Are single-minded, with one job: to soothe us no matter what.✨ At their best and in moderation, are helpful coping mechanisms. ✨ Usually stay dormant, unless we are triggered.✨Under stress or due to prior conditioning, can become extreme, bringing unhelpful behaviors. Have you wondered what it truly means to trust God? It can actually look like many different things, such as co-creating with God, taking steps in faith, being comfortable with the unknown, following an open door, or simply believing that He can and will show up for you. This week, I had the joy of interviewing Lisa Anderson, the director of Boundless program for young adults at Focus on the Family, and host of the podcast - “The Boundless Show”. The topic of trust has not only been a major part of Lisa's own journey in Christ, but also a message she highlights in her ministry with young adults. Lisa loves connecting with young adults who are single and strategizing how to better equip themselves for life, relationships and faith that goes the distance. In this Renewal Conversation, Lisa and I talk about: 🔅 The beauty of asking God for help and allowing God's timing to happen. 🔅 How healthy boundaries look from the example of Jesus Christ.🔅 How relationships with others can mirror your relationship with God. 🔅 How trusting God is a decision, knowing that He IS our provider. 🔅 Lisa's renewal routine and her nuggets of staying centered in Christ. In Hebrews, St. Paul tells us this: "And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith." - Hebrews 12:1 (NIV). As Christian professional women & servant leaders, we lead in many capacities, which brings a great amount of responsibility, and therefore, to keep ourselves moving forward, we call upon our "Manager Parts" as described in Internal Family Systems (IFS). These parts help us problem solve, persevere, and keep running the race. However, if we simply follow the path with our noses to the ground and don't stop to align ourselves with God, we ramp up our nervous system and eventually burn out. This is not exactly what God intended when he said to persevere, and He certainly does not want us to burnout in the process. And the IFS psychological methodology can help us to befriend and unblend from the MANAGERS, so that we can run the race without burning out. Internal Family Systems (IFS) Part 3: MANAGER Parts - Notes:🔅 They are very helpful as they support us to function at our best, so they need our appreciation.🔅 Like all internal parts, they are single-minded and they can also get us into trouble.🔅 We need to find a healthy way to unblend from them to stay in balance, without burning out, so we can keep serving Christ. 🔅 Many times, we confuse them with our identity.
