It's our first time back in-studio for a recording in what feels like ages. And so sorry we picked kind of a dud of a movie to cover. It's "Cheater Cheater" from 2024. It's the story of Joesph Givens, who returns to his hometown after getting his life together and sobering up over the last 5 years. But Joe's past also returns to catch up to him. After 5 random killings rocked the town 5 years ago, now that Joe's back, the killing starts up again. And the killer is wearing a creepy pumpkin mask. That's the only reason we picked this movie to cover during the Halloween season. Listen and try to enjoy! We watched it for you!Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_PodcastEmail us at SlashUPodcast@gmail.comCheck out the Facebook page too: SlashU PodcastClick any of the Amazon links at SlashUPodcast.com to support the showThanks to ZapSplat.com for our Sound FX Hosted on Acast. Episode 189-Haunt Season

Episode 189-Haunt Season

2025-10-0601:08:01

Welcome to Season 11 of SlashU! We've made it back to you after a September break. And to kick off both our new season and the Spooky Season, we covered "Haunt Season" from 2024. The story centers around Matilda, a new hire at a seasonal haunted house. While Matilda learns the ropes of scaring people, she grapples with what she's going to do next in her life. Should she pursue an acting career in Los Angeles? But it's scary moving to a whole new city and taking that chance! It's a good thing that for now, all she has to do is focus on surviving the Halloween season. Because someone's stalking and murdering other actors in the haunted house. Can Matilda and her friends find out who it is before it's too late? Plus we sat down with writer/director of "Haunt Season;" Jake Jarvi. He was kind enough to talk to us about the making of the film along with some of his favorite things about horror. Listen, enjoy, tell a friend and welcome back to SlashU!Follow Jake Jarvi on Instagram @janks37 to check out everything he's been up to.Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_PodcastEmail us at SlashUPodcast@gmail.comCheck out the Facebook page too: SlashU PodcastClick any of the Amazon links at SlashUPodcast.com to support the showThanks to ZapSplat.com for our Sound FX Hosted on Acast. This week we sat down with Wisconsin horror author and all-around nice guy DJ Slater. DJ has a horror novel coming out September 16th, 2025 called Legend Has it. Full details about the book and all information about DJ can be found at DJSlaterAuthor.com. The story sounds like a great one: "Seth and his friends have always heard about a legendary 10-story haunted house that travels around the Midwest every October. It's one of those haunted houses that really pushes the limits. You even have to sign a waiver! But is this traveling haunted house just an urban legend? Well, maybe. But then how do Seth and his friends wind up on its doorstep? And what horrors will they discover inside?"We talked to DJ about his writing process, his love of the horror genre, and living in Wisconsin. Take a listen and check out his book when it drops on September 16th, 2025.Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_PodcastEmail us at SlashUPodcast@gmail.comCheck out the Facebook page too: SlashU PodcastClick any of the Amazon links at SlashUPodcast.com to support the showThanks to ZapSplat.com for our Sound FX Hosted on Acast. This week we covered our second movie in our annual Shark Week departure. It's "Sky Sharks" from 2020. This one has a bit of everything; Nazi's, Zombies, and Flying Sharks. As a result, it's kind of all over the place. But in a shorter-than-usual episode we managed to cover the major plot points. This movie has so much stuff and people in it that don't really matter, it's sometimes hard to follow. Climate change has melted a glacier in the Arctic enough to expose an old Nazi warship that was frozen in the ice. The thaw-out jump started some old Zombie and flying shark experiments that the Nazis had conducted near the end of World War II. As a result, the Sky Sharks are set loose to terrorize the skies. Can the fine folks at Richter Technologies stop them in time? Maybe. Welcome to another Shark Week here at SlashU. Every year we pick a couple of cheesy, campy shark movies to cover, deviating from our usual slasher movie format. This week's movie is one of the "best" we've ever covered here for a shark week. During the Cold War era, Russian scientists created human-shark hybrids capable of living in extremely harsh conditions, and then shot them all to the far side of the moon. Now, in present day, a group of American astronauts en route to the moon for their own environmental and green energy experiments, find themselves way off course and running for their lives against the shark threat. Join us as we pick apart this "masterpiece" of shark-themed cinema.Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_PodcastEmail us at SlashUPodcast@gmail.comCheck out the Facebook page too: SlashU PodcastClick any of the Amazon links at SlashUPodcast.com to support the showThanks to ZapSplat.com for our Sound FX Hosted on Acast. Well we've come to the end of our Summer Camp Slasher Series here at SlashU. This week we covered "Bloody Summer Camp" from 2021. And we figured to end the summer camp theme we would pick one of the longest movies we've ever covered here on the podcast. This one sits at a mighty 2 hours and 5 minutes! But with so much time in the movie and so many characters on screen, the body count is high in this one. It's the story of the counselors at Camp Trustfall getting ready to welcome the campers for another summer. But a killer in a black devil mask is on the loose and no one knows who it is! This one stars our friends Felissa Rose and Dave Sheridan. So climb down off your camp zip line and listen!Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_PodcastEmail us at SlashUPodcast@gmail.comCheck out the Facebook page too: SlashU PodcastClick any of the Amazon links at SlashUPodcast.com to support the showThanks to ZapSplat.com for our Sound FX Hosted on Acast. On this week's episode we continue our Summer Camp Slasher Series with "She Came from the Woods" from 2022. This one is a supernatural slasher movie, which we do not often touch on here at SlashU. But we thought it would be fun to cover it for our summer camp focus. Boy, what a great decision that turned out to be! This one is fun from start to finish. As Camp Briarbrook closes up for the summer and the campers go home, the counselors throw one last big party. They get together and perform an annual silly ritual to summon the ghost of Nurse Agatha, who terrorized the camp over 40 years ago. But it turns out the stories about Nurse Agatha are true! She ends up being summoned by their ritual and proceeds to pick off our counselors one by one in an attempt to gain immortal life. Great effects, characters that you love to hate, and a story that zips along so fast you can't even tell it's an hour and forty plus movie. Of course, we found the cheesiest, campiest stuff to focus in on and had a blast talking about it. Enjoy!Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_PodcastEmail us at SlashUPodcast@gmail.comCheck out the Facebook page too: SlashU PodcastClick any of the Amazon links at SlashUPodcast.com to support the showThanks to ZapSplat.com for our Sound FX Hosted on Acast. Moving right along in our Summer Camp Slasher series, we have "Killer Body Count" from 2024. Cami's dad thinks she's a sex-crazed sinner, but Cami's just a normal teenage girl discovering her sexuality. Doesn't matter to Dad. He ships her off to a Catholic rehab camp hoping for Cami to be absolved of her sinful ways. At camp, Cami meets a whole group of other teen girls and some teen boys. They're all basically just horned up on "being teenagers." But there's a killer on the loose dressed as the devil out to absolve them of their sins....with a knife.Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_PodcastEmail us at SlashUPodcast@gmail.comCheck out the Facebook page too: SlashU PodcastClick any of the Amazon links at SlashUPodcast.com to support the showThanks to ZapSplat.com for our Sound FX Hosted on Acast. We covered one that brings back a ton of memories for us here at SlashU. From 1997 it's "I Know What You Did Last Summer." A movie that our generation loved and cherished. We decided to tackle it in time for the 2025 updated new release, which also stars Freddy Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt. Take a walk down memory lane with us as we pick apart one that played a key role in our youths. To quote Julie James, "What are you waiting for?"Let us know what you think, both of the 1997 and the 2025 versions.Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_PodcastEmail us at SlashUPodcast@gmail.comCheck out the Facebook page too: SlashU PodcastClick any of the Amazon links at SlashUPodcast.com to support the showThanks to ZapSplat.com for our Sound FX Hosted on Acast. We jumped back to 1988 for this one. "Cannibal Campout" is a very straightforward piece of cinema. Four friends go camping in the woods of New Jersey and discover a trio of crazy cannibals ready to hunt and eat them. Are the cannibals brothers? How'd they end up with a hunger for human meat? Why are there so many abandoned buildings and garbage in the woods of New Jersey? You won't find those answers here, but we had a lot of fun picking it apart anyway.Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_PodcastEmail us at SlashUPodcast@gmail.comCheck out the Facebook page too: SlashU PodcastClick any of the Amazon links at SlashUPodcast.com to support the showThanks to ZapSplat.com for our Sound FX Hosted on Acast. We tackled "Bloody Murder" on the last episode so this week we had to jump into the sequel, "Bloody Murder 2: Closing Camp." It's the story of Tracy, sister to Jason who was attacked at the end of the last film. She thinks her brother Jason is still alive somewhere up at Camp Placid Pines. It's the end of summer. Tracy and the other counselors are packing up the camp to close for the season. The counselors start to disappear one by one. Is it Rick, the head counselor? Is it Trevor Moorehouse, the fabled 'camp boogeyman' story used to scare the campers? Or is it someone else responsible for the killings? We spoil it all here. In this shorter episode, we're coming to you from a cabin on the lake where our top priority is to relax. And since this movie was essentially a repeat of the first, we didn't feel the need to go as long as we usually do. But we're just as fun and entertaining as ever!Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_PodcastEmail us at SlashUPodcast@gmail.comCheck out the Facebook page too: SlashU PodcastClick any of the Amazon links at SlashUPodcast.com to support the showThanks to ZapSplat.com for our Sound FXFollow us on Instagram @SlashU_PodcastEmail us at SlashUPodcast@gmail.comCheck out the Facebook page too: SlashU PodcastClick any of the Amazon links at SlashUPodcast.com to support the showThanks to ZapSplat.com for our Sound FX Hosted on Acast. Episode 179: Bloody Murder

2025-06-1601:04:49

Here we are continuing our Summer-camp-themed Slasher movie run. This week we covered "Bloody Murder" from 2000. Sorry friends, it's not great. It's fine if you're a fan of the slasher genre. But with slow pacing, scattered backstory, and a poorly defined killer, this one falls flat. We still had a great time talking about it. Episode 178: The Retreat

Episode 178: The Retreat

2025-06-0901:01:02

We're back and we're continuing our summer camping series with "The Retreat" from 2021. It also touches on Pride Month here in the U.S. When a lesbian couple on a vacation at a remote cabin get attacked by extremists bent on torture and murder, they must fight their way to freedom. But not before getting bloody revenge on the ones who wronged them. It's a hidden gem, even if it's not a traditional "slasher." We're back with the start of our summertime summer camp series. Each year during the Summer months we try to stick to slasher movies that take place in or around a summer camp, camping, the outdoors; you get the picture. This week we kick off our summer series with "Caesar & Otto's Summer amp Massacre." It's from 2009 and it's a whacky one. This is one movie in what looks like a series of "Caesar & Otto" movies. And while it's a cool idea to follow two main characters through different adventures, this one left your professors with some questions. We just weren't sure if this is our type of thing or what. Give it a listen and tell us what you think.Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_PodcastEmail us at SlashUPodcast@gmail.comCheck out the Facebook page too: SlashU PodcastClick any of the Amazon links at SlashUPodcast.com to support the showThanks to ZapSplat.com for our Sound FXFollow us on Instagram @SlashU_PodcastEmail us at SlashUPodcast@gmail.comCheck out the Facebook page too: SlashU PodcastClick any of the Amazon links at SlashUPodcast.com to support the showThanks to ZapSplat.com for our Sound FX Hosted on Acast. Here we are again for another week of cheesy, campy, slasher mayhem. This week we watched "Phantom Fun-World" from 2023. The story centers around Andi, a new employee at an indoor fun park called Phantom Fun-World. The park is re-opening after a terrible tragedy happened 17 years ago and Andi has been hired as one of the staff. But a killer is stalking the place, dressed as the mascot "Phantom" and he doesn't take kindly to people trying to start the park up again. This one left us with a lot of questions. So listen, and tell us if you can answer any of them.Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_PodcastEmail us at SlashUPodcast@gmail.comCheck out the Facebook page too: SlashU PodcastClick any of the Amazon links at SlashUPodcast.com to support the showThanks to ZapSplat.com for our Sound FXFollow us on Instagram @SlashU_PodcastEmail us at SlashUPodcast@gmail.comCheck out the Facebook page too: SlashU PodcastClick any of the Amazon links at SlashUPodcast.com to support the showThanks to ZapSplat.com for our Sound FX Hosted on Acast. This week we recorded a Zoom call between your two favorite professors and discussed the premier of Professor Nick's movie "Murder Cabin." We had a screening here in Milwaukee. How did it go? How many people showed up? What happens next with this indy short film? Where to babies come from? We covered it all in our "Murder Cabin" recap. But it's the first time ever here on SlashU where we did not spoil the entire movie. We've got one this week in honor of all the amazing Moms out there. From 1980 it's "Mother's Day." It's the story of three college best friends who call themselves the "Rat Pack." Each year since college, they've been going on a girls' trip together to reconnect and renew their unbreakable friendship. But this year, the three ladies get kidnapped by Ike and Addley who drag them off into the forest to torment them for the pleasure of their dear old Mom. It's not our usual "Slasher" movie but when it comes to honoring Mom, it's ok to stray from the usual formula.Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_PodcastEmail us at SlashUPodcast@gmail.comCheck out the Facebook page too: SlashU PodcastClick any of the Amazon links at SlashUPodcast.com to support the showThanks to ZapSplat.com for our Sound FXFollow us on Instagram @SlashU_PodcastEmail us at SlashUPodcast@gmail.comCheck out the Facebook page too: SlashU PodcastClick any of the Amazon links at SlashUPodcast.com to support the showThanks to ZapSplat.com for our Sound FX Hosted on Acast. Happy Cinco de Mayo everyone! Turns out there's a cheesy, campy slasher movie from 2013 called "Cinco de Mayo" and so we covered it! It's the story of El Maestro, or Mr. Valdez. He's a Mexican Studies teacher at the college. When El Maestro gets fired and mercilessly ridiculed by those around him, he snaps. He unleashes his "Aztec Bloodlust" and goes on a killing spree just in time for the holiday. Episode 172: Funeral Home

2025-04-2801:04:38

This week we jumped into another 80s style slasher classic with "Funeral Home." Alternate title "Cries in the Night" and we'll discuss all that today too. The story centers around Heather, who is visiting her grandmother to help get her Bed and Breakfast business off the ground. You see, Grandma and Grandpa used to run the community's funeral home. But when Grandpa disappeared, Grandma was forced to turn it into a B&B to make ends meet. While Heather is there to help, some of the guests start to go missing. But deputy sheriff Joe Yates is on the case, in some of the most competent police work we've ever seen in a cheesy slasher movie.Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_PodcastEmail us at SlashUPodcast@gmail.comCheck out the Facebook page too: SlashU PodcastClick any of the Amazon links at SlashUPodcast.com to support the showThanks to ZapSplat.com for our Sound FXFollow us on Instagram @SlashU_PodcastEmail us at SlashUPodcast@gmail.comCheck out the Facebook page too: SlashU PodcastClick any of the Amazon links at SlashUPodcast.com to support the showThanks to ZapSplat.com for our Sound FX Hosted on Acast. Happy Easter! In honor of the Easter Season we covered "Easter Bunny Massacre" from 2021. This one's a British slasher and we had so much fun picking it apart. Sorry for our terrible accents. It's the story of a group of friends who start out celebrating graduation, but end up trying to cover up a murder. The crime comes back to haunt them a year later in the form of someone dressed as a deranged Easter Bunny with a hammer and a bad attitude.
